Class of '66 Old Fart

IUMS @ Michigan - 3/27/21 @ 2:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

Absolutely horrible first half. Fortunate to keep that scoreless as we were under pressure and dominated in ways we rarely are but defense held strong. Game is on normal BTN BTW.

Spencer Glass down on the field and they're checking out his lower right leg.  Appears to be somewhat serious as he's getting a ride off the field.

Hopefully this isn't as serious as it looks.

He's done for the year. They put a cast on it. Watching with family member who is doctor and they said that looks season ending and pretty sure something broke.

Very unfortunate ending for Glass' career (he is a senior) and may slow him down next year at the beginning of pro career. Very sad.

34 seconds into the 2nd OT, Ryan Wittenbrink gets a goal and Hoosiers win 1-0.   And I missed it!  Ugh!

On the afternoon, the Hoosiers only had 3 SOG and 5 corners.  4 different Hoosiers received yellow cards.  Huge win after playing sluggishly for most of the match.

We were ranked #7 going into the match.  The #3 and #6 teams lost today.  And #4 team has a tough road game. We could ourselves ranked top 5 soon.

I just learned of a rule change that they are determining conference winner by average points per game.  Which means Penn State will win the conference if they beat Maryland and we tie Maryland. Despite PSU missing their two toughest games of the year.  What a crock.

We did not deserve that. Michigan was far and away the better team today and I would have been more than happy to settle for a tie. With that said there has so many times over the years where teams have beaten us when they didn't deserve to so this makes up for all of that.

More so in 2017 Michigan got a completely undeserved tie against us to win Big Ten, when we we were far and away the better team in both the match against them and as a team overall. Michigan probably deserves the Title this year and to beat us but what goes around comes around, and if we steal a Big Ten Championship this year with this win its just payback for 2017.

Feel awful for Glass but team has to soldier on without him and is talented enough.

I get what you are saying about then deserving the game. But not sure I agree especially about the title. Aside from our game they still have a loss and a tie.  Even a win against us would have put them behind Penn State(Something I am not a fan of what a silly rule)

As a former defender/goalie maybe I just have a soft spot for what our defense did today.  But as bad as we were on offense our defense was stellar. At home I’d say we didn’t deserve the win. On the road, will take it anyway we can get it.

We as a team can play with anybody. It’s whether or not we will.  Time to rest up for Maryland and take the title.  Then it’s into the tourneys

Maher Earns TDS Top Team Honors

Indiana men's soccer freshman defender Joey Maher was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer team after leading the Indiana defense to a couple of shutouts in Big Ten Conference play.

The honor is his first of his career at Indiana.

Maher was instrumental in locking down both the Northwestern Wildcats and the No. 11-ranked Michigan Wolverines in a pair of Hoosier victories during last week's action. The Caseyville, Ill., native has started all eight matches this season at the centerback position for a Hoosier defense that has conceded just two goals.

Sophomore keeper Roman Celentano was named an honorable mention selection to the team. The two-time defending Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week posted six saves across 191 minutes of shutout soccer against the Wildcats and Wolverines.

The No. 7-ranked Hoosiers will be in action at 1 p.m. ET on April 4 at Armstrong Stadium in the regular season finale against the Maryland Terrapins.

Celentano, Wittenbrink Named Co-Big Ten Players of the Week

Indiana men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Roman Celentano and redshirt sophomore forward Ryan Wittenbrink were named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player and Co-Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Celentano has earned the accolade from the Big Ten four times in his career, including each of the last three weeks. For Wittenbrink, this is the first honor of his career.

In goal, the Naperville, Ill., native recorded a total of six saves across 191 minutes of shutout soccer in victories over Northwestern (3-0) and No. 11 Michigan (1-0 2OT). In 730 minutes of action this season, Celentano has conceded just two goals (0.246 goals allowed per game), the lowest figure in the Big Ten Conference. His 29 saves are tops in the league, along with his 93.5% save percentage. His six shutouts double the next closest keeper in the conference.

Wittenbrink was golden in Indiana's dramatic 1-0 victory over the Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. He took a restart pass from sophomore forward Victor Bezerra, beat the Michigan defender in a one-on-one situation, and ripped a shot to beat the keeper in the 101st minute to secure the fifth-straight Hoosier victory. The Libertyville, Ill., native has scored three goals this season.

Celentano, Wittenbrink and the rest of the No. 5-ranked Hoosier men's soccer team hosts the Maryland Terrapins to close out the 2020-21 regular season at 1 p.m. ET on April 4 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The match will be broadcast on BTN.

Kinda crazy that this team has struggled at times to play its best and it’s in prime position to win the conference and has a top 5 ranking.

We win the conference with a PSU loss tomorrow or a win against Maryland.

If we win conference we won’t have to travel again until the NCAA tourney
