Candidate Thread: Becky Hammon (San Antonio Spurs Assistant)

Recommended Posts

However a logical concern is that maybe the state and fan base wouldn’t be ready or accepting of it thus effecting recruiting and building relationships needed to get local assistant coaches. That’s tough but a realistic concern. I’m coming at this topic not because she’s a woman but I’ve heard many of time that she can coach over the past two years.

The recruits that people want IU to chase and get are ones with NBA aspirations. Mama, papa, brother, third cousin are all looking to cash in. Taking part in a social experiment will not be what most want to do. Female HC'ing will need to start at smaller D1 schools and, by success,  work it's way into major P5 programs. The first female CEO wasn't at IBM.  It might not be right, but this is how it will happen.

This is a fair concern

Well when u make baseless statements like your making then yeeeeeaaaaah maybe it’s warranted. Other posters have mentioned some logical concerns like the ability to recruit which sad but fair. You’re just posting for show without substance . By the way - IU undergrad - UNC MBA- IU law - I think I’m good at the IU department as well.

You think saying she’s far less experienced than Mike Woodson is “baseless?” Your unc friends feelings on hammond do not outweigh the discrepancy in their resumes.

Sorry, but you’re not even trying to be logical. you want to get on your soap box about how unfair the world is, so go ahead.

I’m not downing Woodson . However being a Knicks fan I know that Hammond has some advantages over him. Frankly she’ll have more energy and enthusiasm on the recruiting trail. I think x/o and development he has a slight advantage but it’s not like she’s a slouch. Buddy you’re trying to dictate a narrative. She’s not my first choice but if we keep getting rejected I would take her in a heart beat.

I would rather have Mike Woodson all day every day. I understand Hammon can be a great coach, but her resume is not stronger than Woodson's. We already have one of us who could be as good as Hammon or better, and on top of that, Woodson's love for IU and the state of Indiana is absolutely undeniable. I know some people think that Woodson's got a low ceiling, but I think differently. Because he's from Indy and he's an IU guy who was a star player at IU, played and coached in the NBA, he's got a pretty good upside. If he assembles a good coaching staff (I think he would), I think he would succeed here at IU.
