Hooks does not hold an IU offer, but he's #40 in 247's rankings of the '23 class and I think we'll be seeing a lot more info on him and it will be easier if he has his own thread.

He's listed as 6'7" and attends Indianapolis Crispus Attucks HS having played last season for Franklin Central.  He has a game tonight against Brownsburg and Butler recruit '21 Pierre Thomas that can be viewed at: https://www.ihsaatv.org/wbtv/     Broadcast scheduled to start at 7:25.  Watch the IU game and during the insufferable TV timeouts sneak a peek at Hooks.

From Brian Snow in October -

Class of 2023 prospect Jalen Hooks is one of the top talents in the Midwest. Hooks, an Indianapolis native, is off to a very good start to his sophomore year. He is leading one of the most talented teams in the state on the court, and also working to improve at the same time.

Ranked as the No. 40 prospect in the 247Sports rankings in the class of 2023, Hooks has had a lot of attention on him for a while.

Now, the 6-foot-7 forward is beginning to capitalize on all of his natural ability as his sophomore year is kicking into high gear.

“It has been really good to get back playing high school basketball,” said Hooks. “This is my first year with Crispus Attucks. We have a team capable of big things, and I can’t wait to show it this season.”

He continued, “I have been working on everything. I am working on the mental part of the game a lot, and just trying to be better overall.”

It is still very early in the process for Hooks on the recruiting trail, but he already is garnering significant attention from schools in the Midwest and around the country.

About his recruitment, Hooks said, “It has been crazy. I just didn’t think it would happen for me, and now it is happening. Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Xavier and a lot of the schools around here are recruiting me. Also, Kansas, Texas Tech, and a lot of schools like that.”

The in-state Hoosiers have made sure to let Hooks know that they like him a lot, and they continue to monitor him closely even at this early stage.

“My sisters went to Indiana, so it is good to talk to them and I like the program and how they play,” said Hooks of the Hoosiers.

When it comes to Purdue, Hooks added, “I went to their team camp two years ago, so I am familiar with Coach (Matt) Painter. Also, Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry and I are cool, so I like Purdue.”

One of Hooks’ first offers came from Xavier. He said he is very familiar with Xavier Head Coach Travis Steele and is learning about the program.

“I talked to (Steele) for the first time over a year ago,” said Hooks. “I have just been knowing him. He told me about the history of their program and stuff, and he seems like a good guy.”

For now, Hooks is focused on improving on the court and simply becoming more familiar with the coaches off of it. He has no specific timeframe for a decision and is instead trying to get a good idea of who to seriously consider while also getting better as a player.

Attucks came into its game with Brownsburg as the highest scoring team in the state averaging 87 ppg.   The first half was a bad performance of the Anvil Chorus with Attucks holding a 21-20 lead as neither team could hit the proverbial broad side of a barn. Shooting picked up in the second half with Attucks taking a 60 - 58 win.  Hooks finished with 6 pts. on 2-3 FG; 0-1 on 3s; 2-3 FT; 4 reb; 3 asst; 1 stl; 1 TO; 3 blks.

At least in this game, Hooks was not an integral part of the offense.  He played a high post but the ball was not routinely worked through him.  No idea if that's the normal Attucks offense or it was for this particular game.

"Anvil Chorus", I love it, you're the best OF.

Attucks (6-1) loses its first game of the season 78 - 75 on a buzzer beating 3 by Lawrence Central.  Game was painful to  watch as neither team brought its "A" game.  So many fouls; so many TOs; so many sloppy passes.  I had Hooks with 15 pts. on 6-11 FG; 1-2 on 3s; 0-1 FT; 7 reb; 3 asst; 1 stl; 1 blk; 5 TOs.  He is just a sophomore but I wasn't overly impressed with his defense and his TOs were just butt ugly and he didn't handle the ball particularly well on the dribble.
