It’s very disingenuous to push the fans running off coaches narrative. No one even knows who IU has been targeting.
-
Yea. Probably closer to Chernobyl. Good thing it's made up.

The showy move is the abbreviation or one letter because you’re too busy to type out your name. - P

IMO, this is a quality day in the General Coach Candidate News thread. McCollum, Wade, and good old Boy Wonder. Good stuff.
-
Scott didn’t hire Woodson. After 1,000 of your posts about Woody’s pals Quinn and Ferguson you of all people should know this.
-
True. And really, no coach midseason has ever said: “Hell yea I’d take that other job” or “You got me Mr/Mrs Reporter, I already accepted another gig I’m leaving.” It’s a denial right up until accepting.
-
Good points. It appears we are also seeing this in CFB where there is also an increase in parity. It’s helping us some in FB and probably hurting us a bit in bball.
-
Yea. Fred wasn’t too good at the big (FB, bball) hires. Issue with him is he had no experience as an AD. Like you, I’ve got to hope Scott has this hiring thing mostly figured out. I think there is a good chance he does, he likely got one right and he has observed a lot of mistakes up close over the years.

Some people are way too confident in their ability to assess coaches from a distance with little info. I know I can’t do it. People can do whatever they want, but getting upset over someone like McCollum seems silly. If it’s him, Scott made the call based on way, way more information than most people have. We’ll have to see how it actually goes for a couple years. Maybe he is awesome, maybe he is mediocre, it’s just so hard to know.

Ha. Maybe an emerging football superpower in Indiana is close enough.

That is a big number. I guess passing the collection plate really works well down there. I suspect with the rev share starting next year they are quoting NIL + rev share. Still, that has to be top-5ish, wow.

Potential mass exodus from the Celtics staff??!! ;-)
-
Yea. The people I know keep saying Scott is talking to absolutely no one, not even the big timers (which is great). May just be Scott, Pam, and one lawyer in the know. With that in mind, I can’t get too high or low with the rumors and chatter.
-
Other big programs have big fanbases too and they manage to do well. The fan stuff is an excuse. The fanbase is a big, big net positive. Even if our fans were an issue, what should we do? Have Scott and Pam somehow reach out to over a million people and tell them how to act? Shutdown all our forums? Somehow shrink interest in IUBB so we are less scary? A good coach will use our fanbase to his advantage with donations and great crowds that help win games.

Brad will always be part of the IU family.

In reality, we still know so little about what's going on... Personally I don't know enough to be legit concerned (or excited) yet.

Coach McCollum: At Assembly Hall the FT lines are 15 ft from the basket and the rims are 10 ft high. I think you'll find that's the exact same measurements as your gym back at Des Moines.
-
Agree. The IU job isn't that hard. The media are lapdogs, so much so coaches can flat out tell them questions they don't want asked. Yea you've got to talk with donors and go to Huber's -- is that difficult? No. The main thing a coach has to adjust to is anon fans going wild online, but that's not really hard to do, just don't be a thin-skinned wimp. The upside is the coach gets top resources that will allow them to win big and they get paid big time. We'll find a good, ambitious coach that wants this.

Just some old pals of Tom Allen swinging by to catch-up.

I agree he has a system players do need to fit in. Some of our players wouldn’t last a day there. I do notice that Painter goes after top players though, he just can’t afford them with PU’s mid-NIL. I also know he is always pushing for more NIL. Sometimes he puts out a narrative to mask some of their recruiting struggles. He would take a few 5*s if he could get them.
-
Agree. I’m just talking about selling the player on the system at the recruiting stage and getting them to sign. Once he gets the player I’ve got no worries.
-
Yes. Being an expert under the table bagman is no longer a key coach criteria.
-
I don’t think NIL is that hard. The player values are pretty easy to figure out through comps of existing players and agents. Cig had no issues, nor do most coaches. Our NIL can get us into most recruitments. Woody still couldn’t close a lot of those because recruits saw he was a bad coach with a bad system, especially for guards. McCollum could do better — big question Scott has to figure out is can McCollum and the system he wants to run land the Mullens, McNeely’s, Haralsons, etc. we need to land. Will they want to play for him and feel they have a path to the league? I don’t know. I suspect a good coach can figure it out though.
