My view is Scott had nothing to do with the Woody hire/4th year and when left alone he went out and made a very nice football hire. I’m not arguing though, at this point it’s water under the bridge and agree to disagree is fine by me. After the last 25 years of IUBB I can’t help but be nervous too. But I keep going back to the fact this job profile is different in the NIL era and we seem to have a competent AD who is being substantially left alone to run this process. That is really all I can hope for and it greatly improves our chances vs the last five (ouch, what a big number) hires.

It’s nice when someone gets it. Even if it’s an anon on X. Yea IU has made a lot of bad hires and the results have been poor on the court for a long time. But that’s in the past and doesn’t matter much. What matters is we have big resources and coaches should want that (I hope).

Gonna be another miss from Isaac’s new account.

I think folks need to keep in mind every mid-major coach is not automatically an Archie. Lots of schools have made great hires from the mid-majors. Also, it appears Dolson is better at hiring coaches than Glass was. So, yes there is a risk, but it's not the end of the world if we go that route.

Scott Dolson is Jimmy Chitwood. He’s gonna make this shot.

I do not like the word “committee.” It triggers my IUBB coach search PTSD. Everyone says this is Scott’s show this time around, how is there a committee?
-
I can only speak for myself, but I think Scott will identify the right candidate and he and Pam he will get them to sign. They’ve done it before and they can do it again, especially with IUBB being more appealing that it has been historically due to NIL/rev share/media deal.

Shows you how much our donors know about basketball. Good grief. They backed Woody and Woody messed up the roster. New coach needs control over the roster so they can fix it.

James Harden is The Beard.

His separation agreement almost certainly has a non-disparagement clause that would prevent this by putting his buyout at risk if he goes off. Even with that, I would not give him the mic — could result in some bad “optics.”

Yea. As mad as Woody is right now, and I know he is being very difficult, Dolson really can’t afford to have him in the loop. He would tell everyone, he doesn’t care, just like the poster’s friend. Woody is probably conveying his best guess.

Yea, Lloyd grew up in rainy Washington state and right now he is 1,200 miles away from that in the hot Tucson desert. There aren’t any good CBB gigs in the PNW (Zags have an internal guy lined up) and he is already far from home. Does he want our sweet sweet NIL/rev share and conference stability? I hope so. AZ athletics have some financial issues that probably impacts their usually good NIL, and his fit with the AZ AD is supposedly iffy.

Everyone has a religion, even if it’s not a church-related one. This all falls into Dolson needing to figure out who will translate well to IU and succeed here. I suspect Drew would be fine but I don’t know him at all, so I gotta trust Scott.
-
Yea, he had a pretty big run of Joyce Meyer retweets.

Cig seems pretty happy and he keeps thanking Scott and Pam for their support. I know we exceeded our NIL promise to him for last season. It seems NIL+rev share to football seems to keep going up in a meaningful way, exactly how much they got this season I don’t know. We need to keep pushing. Being good at football is a game changer for the athletic dept.

Yea. And no matter who it is we have to see how they actually do once they take the reins.

Haha — that’s funny. As we know UK put a full court press on him for like five days. Mitch Barnhart was leveraging his relationship with Drew, they flew his family out to Lexington, and when UK fans found out he was at some Mexican restaurant in Waco they all started calling the restaurant. I do worry about getting him after he turned UK down, as we know he and his family and his program and pretty woven into the religious aspects of Baylor. They have a big house and a lot of family down there. But who knows? $2M+ per year for your roster at IU is pretty darn appealing and he knows Indiana.

If true and we are able to get a Drew/Otz/Lloyd type, I think that's for the best. Dusty would do well here, but it's such a big task for him at this stage in his career. If we miss on the bigger names and get a riskier coach, of course I'll wish we got Dusty this time around or last year. But just looking at this situation, moving to IU right now is hard for him. He just jumped up to a big time job 11 months ago. He completed a rebuild and now he's trying to win the conference (I know he may come up just short) and do something in the tourney. He just signed a new deal and I'm sure has been establishing relationships with the UM admin and their donors -- basically building a foundation. That is a lot of work in one year's time. To do all that and then leave to restart AGAIN with an even bigger job and probably even tougher rebuild, is just a huge undertaking. He throws away all that foundational work he just put in at UM. I suspect IU has more institutional rot that needs fixing than UM too. I don't blame him for staying at UM IF he was offered the IU job. Also, an older, more seasoned coach will be better positioned to fix IU. I'm not saying they need to 70 years old, but Dusty has one year of P5 experience. It's going to take a strong personality with presence to clean up Woody's mess. Dusty could do it, don't get me wrong, I'm just saying a more experienced coach could be the more ideal fit. I admit this might be some "cope" on my part... Can we get a top-end, experienced coach? I don't know. It's not easy, but I'm optimistic with Scott and Pam selling IU and the significant resource upgrade a coach can get here.

Cignetti interview on the Hoosier Connect pod just came out. Good stuff. Link below: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hoosiers-connect-players-perspective/id1761690976?i=1000697633644

Perhaps a separate thread called "I'm Upset with the General Coach Candidate News Thread" would be useful? Posters could discuss candidates they don't like being mentioned, or how they don't like that everyone doesn't agree with them. /s
