Good win. Playing vs a Cronin team is always ugly. Add in the terrible reffing, and our inability to handle the press on inbounds plays and it was a gutsy win. Quad 1 win on the road plays well for tournament resume. Go beat USC on Tuesday.

Going vs a team that’s built for defense with athleticism and emphasized by coaching. Purdue is free flowing and offensive minded.

Our lack of athleticism is showing. Passes aren’t crisp so shooters can just go up. And this is a half where I’m sitting thinking my goodness I can’t wait for Tucker DeVries to be off this team and we can spend his NIL on a better player.

These next two games are big. Need to split but win both and we are trending in the right direction. Lose both and it’s a tough task. Life on the bubble. Joe Lunardi has us in as the last team in right now. Not the best bracketologist but nice to see us in when I look at espn. I agree with what was said earlier, we need 6 wins. But that can include the BTT, depending on other bubble teams.

Unless they are stupid enough to contact the kid directly and not his agent or high school coach to get them in the portal, who knows. And even that is weak imo.

To me that’s bc of Dorn stepping up. I think we take another step with Conorway back and healthy starting over an offensively limited Enright.

Because Conorway is better offensively. He can beat his man off the dribble and create for our shooters. I’d rather get the offense humming at its optimum, and then bring Enright in for when the defense is needed. Also, Purdue is not athletic. Vs more athletic teams we will not get the same looks without someone who can penetrate regularly.

I had hopes for Dorn when they picked him up. Then he was slow out the gate bc of injuries. I assumed he just wouldn’t get there this year. Honestly I’d love to have Conerway in and put Enright on the bench as the 6th man.

He is just reclassifying back to his original class. And he isn’t a PG, which is a position you don’t want to reclass up an age.

I still watch bc I believe the style of play. Not sure it will happen this year though. Definitely need Conerway back soon.

This threat title should change. He isn’t being fired and while it was funny because of the challenge in the game chat to make it, it’s not appropriate at this point. We all know there are roster problems and that’s the key issue. Things aren’t getting fixed and we will miss the NCAA because of the limitations of the roster. The fanbase needs to be supportive and not eat their own. Cignetti is a wonder but he is a one of a kind. The Florida coach took 3 years to get going in the NIL era. UConn took years to get going. Year 1 was at best a bubble team and we are still top 40 in Kenpom. Not where we want to be but expected. People need to give DeVries a legitimate change. Critique sure, but we shouldn’t be calling for his head.

This is a good post. First there is nobody else like Cig. He is a once in a lifetime coach imo. Enjoy it while he is here. I think you hit the nail on the head about the mid major type build. I’ve heard people talk about the way to win is to get old and stay old. I think that’s what they tried and did it with mid majors. Conerway and Wilkerson are hits imo. The rest are not. Dorn would be fine off the bench on a tournament team. Fix the roster build for next year and we could have something. It’s why I’m not giving up on DeVries yet. We can discuss this more as we go through the portal. I believe we were of similar opinions during the portal last spring.

lol. Listen to some of their podcasts and you’ll find they have been complaining about playing too many bigs. They struggle vs teams that can play 5 out. They peaked too early. All complaints I’ve heard them say over the last week or so.

I think we have some assistants that are good recruiters. Time for them to get to work and leverage those relationships to get the talent needed.

Would anyone else bench DeVries and start Sisley? Get the freshmen more experience and ready for next year.

Our game revolves around shooting. But we lack athleticism when that isn’t working. It’s a majorly flawed roster. The roster building is my concern. If that gets fixed I think we could have something. If it’s not fixed then it’s over.
