Not true. They spent boat load this offseason with the coaching transition but that didn’t happen last year. Boosters were souring on Sherrone and rightfully so. Ohio State spent over $30 and were tops on the conference in NIL spend.
-
Was given a hefty sum to fix it as well. If the going rate is a 35% increase this year and the thought is you need 18 mil for 5 impact starters from the portal, then I’d assume Michigan had 15ish mil last year. Which is almost what they spent on football,18 mil. For reference IU was 21 mil plus last season for football. Michigan already winning a football title spent more on basketball and won big. IU spent more on football and won a title. But now it seems IU isn’t going to shift funds to raise the nil to that 18 mil mark. They seem content to contend in football and then slowly build on basketball. Probably 2 more years before IU can realistically think they can compete for deep runs in March if things go well with high school recruiting. Or if DeVries and Carr hit it out of the park with their evaluations of portal players it can change quick.

Transfer Portal w/IU Interest

in his limited minutes I felt that he wasn’t ready for the pace of play or maybe he was nervous. Or both. I’d be fine rolling with him as a backup pg to spend on the starting 5 with the money saved as well. -
Nah. Just saying the media made a 4 course meal out of a nothing burger. Michigan is now being sued by a former assistant who they fired for wrongful termination because they didn’t investigate and took the big ten and ncaa word on it when they fired him. Turns out it wasn’t true and he will be winning a handsome lawsuit or settling. For the record sign stealing is legal and if IU did it, then good it doesn’t bother me.
-
Haha. You realize IU was accused of the same thing by OSU fans right? Not going to derail the thread but I’d love to have a dm message over the sign stealing stuff. And I don’t change teams and bandwagon. Or I would have dumped IU 20+ years ago in basketball.

It’s a badge of honor. I’m not from Indiana originally but a transplant. Grew up watching IU basketball with my grandpa. But IU football was never on tv in California. Michigan was and I watched them and became a fan.

I mean, I think it would be hilarious if he took the Kings job and Woodson was out of a job to Dusty May.
-
One unnamed GM told the Michigan 24/7 guy who also has a radio show in Ann Arbor months ago that Dusty will be the number 1 college coaching option this NBA coaching cycle.

Amazing what happens once programs can start paying players. Evidently it doesn’t mean more in the SEC anymore. Lol

I have doubts about getting Haralson. I’d love to have him but I think his price point might end up being too much. Fingers crossed though. -
The challenge. It’s been rumored for awhile now he has NBA aspirations.

As a Michigan football fan and following the sign gate stuff closely, I will just say your tears taste sweet. Go IUBB, take some of that football NIL that’s top 10 and slide it to basketball to fix the program.

PG - Burton (IU or Houston it seems) SG - Brumbaugh from Tulane Stretch 4 - Olsen from S Alabama Big - Estrella or Fru i think those are the most likely right now per rumors. -

I fully expect someone to get pissy when we don’t have a commit by 1201am. -
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/48407326/informs-michigan-not-pursuing-other-jobs misleading title says Dusty isn’t looking at other jobs. But in the first paragraph it’s specifies he isn’t looking at other college jobs. That clarification tells me he is eyeing going to the NBA. Win the championship then NBA bound if an opportunity arises.

He shot 39% from 3 and shot over 100 more 3 pt attempts than 2’s. That under 40% is all shots. Not saying his 2 pt % is good (40%) but he is a 3pt jump shooter being looked at to be a stretch 4. FT% is over 83% an 3.9 attempts a game. For reference he averaged 4.4 2pt and 8.3 3pt attempts per game. I think what you’re missing though is the cost, he won’t be expensive imo. Rabby said a few days ago he thinks IU will look to land 3 impact guys and then fill in with role players. Similar to the NBA model. I’d expect them to be spending big on a PG, 1 wing, and a C. Meaning stretch 4 is money ball. Olsen also doesn’t block the path for Sisley or Manhertz long term at the 4. Or if he plays the 3 it doesn’t block Karvala long term. They are wanting to get to the point of building through high school recruiting, so expect 3 guys in the portal that don’t cost a lot and have limited eligibility. Olsen is currently a junior per ESPN. -
This team construction will be analyzed and teams will try and mimic the roster construction if they can.
-
He could. There was a clip from one of the south Florida radio guys recently where they mentioned Dusty has NBA aspirations. That and when a NBA GM anonymously said Dusty would be the top college coaching option has been what’s fueled the speculation. I can’t see him going to like the Hornets or the like. Maybe Chicago if Donovan goes to UNC.
-
Very possible. He is good. Will be interesting if he goes to the NBA or not. The Michigan talking heads have been discussing it for a month or more now.
-
Maybe. I’m probably biased. I follow Michigan football closely, so I hear a lot of their basketball coverage and they pointed out the lack of athleticism of Illinois before they played. So I have it in my mind when I watch Illinois play.
-
It has hurt them. It’s how Michigan ran them out of the gym. You can win but you can’t win it all with a team like Illinois. They are struggling to take UConn off the dribble bc they lack quickness and it’s allowing UConn to not have to get into rotation for open shooters and assists. Maybe UConn tires out or ILL can get hit from 3. If not this one is over. The refs suck too.
-
Illinois lack of athleticism in their weakness. They have great size but they don’t have the quickness and it’s showing.
-
Go Big Ten. I’m tired of hearing about the conference not winning it all. ILL vs Michigan in the title game is what I’m pulling for.

2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
Asha’man replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hypothetically they could add 5 and then keep all those guys. That would assuredly mean all 3 freshmen get minutes and can develop throughout the year. Not that I think that’s the plan just throwing it out there.
