https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/48407326/informs-michigan-not-pursuing-other-jobs misleading title says Dusty isn’t looking at other jobs. But in the first paragraph it’s specifies he isn’t looking at other college jobs. That clarification tells me he is eyeing going to the NBA. Win the championship then NBA bound if an opportunity arises.

Transfer Portal w IU Interest
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He shot 39% from 3 and shot over 100 more 3 pt attempts than 2’s. That under 40% is all shots. Not saying his 2 pt % is good (40%) but he is a 3pt jump shooter being looked at to be a stretch 4. FT% is over 83% an 3.9 attempts a game. For reference he averaged 4.4 2pt and 8.3 3pt attempts per game. I think what you’re missing though is the cost, he won’t be expensive imo. Rabby said a few days ago he thinks IU will look to land 3 impact guys and then fill in with role players. Similar to the NBA model. I’d expect them to be spending big on a PG, 1 wing, and a C. Meaning stretch 4 is money ball. Olsen also doesn’t block the path for Sisley or Manhertz long term at the 4. Or if he plays the 3 it doesn’t block Karvala long term. They are wanting to get to the point of building through high school recruiting, so expect 3 guys in the portal that don’t cost a lot and have limited eligibility. Olsen is currently a junior per ESPN. -
This team construction will be analyzed and teams will try and mimic the roster construction if they can.
-
He could. There was a clip from one of the south Florida radio guys recently where they mentioned Dusty has NBA aspirations. That and when a NBA GM anonymously said Dusty would be the top college coaching option has been what’s fueled the speculation. I can’t see him going to like the Hornets or the like. Maybe Chicago if Donovan goes to UNC.
-
Very possible. He is good. Will be interesting if he goes to the NBA or not. The Michigan talking heads have been discussing it for a month or more now.
-
Maybe. I’m probably biased. I follow Michigan football closely, so I hear a lot of their basketball coverage and they pointed out the lack of athleticism of Illinois before they played. So I have it in my mind when I watch Illinois play.
-
It has hurt them. It’s how Michigan ran them out of the gym. You can win but you can’t win it all with a team like Illinois. They are struggling to take UConn off the dribble bc they lack quickness and it’s allowing UConn to not have to get into rotation for open shooters and assists. Maybe UConn tires out or ILL can get hit from 3. If not this one is over. The refs suck too.
-
Illinois lack of athleticism in their weakness. They have great size but they don’t have the quickness and it’s showing.
-
Go Big Ten. I’m tired of hearing about the conference not winning it all. ILL vs Michigan in the title game is what I’m pulling for.

2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
Asha’man replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hypothetically they could add 5 and then keep all those guys. That would assuredly mean all 3 freshmen get minutes and can develop throughout the year. Not that I think that’s the plan just throwing it out there. -

Evidently Trilly said his IU sources are telling him they want to take 6 guys from the portal. -

I was doing some research on Fru and I think he will be a good addition. I don’t think the price is what is being rumored though. It will be lower. I don’t want a high usage big because I still want a guard oriented team. But give me a guy with some size and length to rebound, play defense, and score off of putbacks/dunks. -

100% agree: I also don’t think anyone should be sold. I like the style. First year was kinda ‘okay’. Yeah, I’m hopeful but not sold. I don’t think anyone should be off the train yet either. This upcoming season is massive for a multitude of reasons. -
He also wouldn’t be joining until after the NBA season and their NIL isn’t Duke NIL. In a conference that is 4th best at this point. Lower revenue share as well. Not sure UNC is the pinnacle anymore.

Yeah I’m there with you. But I don’t think he is out after 2 years regardless. I think Dolson wants to build through the high school ranks and will give him 3 years regardless of next years results. But the seat will be scratching hot if they don’t make the dance. So in Ryan Carr I trust. It’s a crucial portal season. -

It’s calmed it for me. I do trust Ryan Carr to evaluate talent and I like DeVries scheme. Now can we close on a solid portal haul? -
(2026) - Vaughn Karvala to INDIANA
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Ended the first half with 10 points. 2-2 from 3, and 3-3 from 2. Kids looks good but will be limited in conference until he adds weight. -
(2026) - Vaughn Karvala to INDIANA
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Kid runs the floor well and is active. His team seems to be filled with some guys who want to just take their man on 1 on 1. The one time they kicked it out Vaughn drained a 3. So I’m not going to take much from the stat line this game. He is slight in stature and needs to add 30 lbs of muscle. -

Yeah I think it’s an either or, not both if I were building a team. -

Interestingly enough I checked ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok to see what they said. All were relatively the same ballpark of 1-1.5 million. only reason I checked was I was thinking 2.5-3 million. Wanted to see what AI could come up with after scouring the web. -

IU is involved but so are a few others. And I’m sure the list will grow. This one will be a fight I’m sure. Get Mark Cuban on line 1 please. -

Everything with a grain of salt, especially on April fools day. I’m not against them staying though. Miles can play some defense off the bench and comes cheap. We have no idea about Harris’s ability but also coming cheap. More to spend on impact portal guys. -

saw someone post this on another board and it’s crazy asking prices. says source told him Sananda Fru's asking price is 3-3.5M, and IU doesn't want to pay it. Mentioned he's heard 4M for Somto Cyril (not IU - related) His international guy mentioned 5M for Thiam (Cincy) recently too. Edit: Cincy's 247 staff mentioned 4M for Thiam yesterday... -
2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
Asha’man replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
All these comments about DeVries have been backhanded put downs. The people doing it just want to vent and I get it. But I started this thread to discuss the roster for next year but it’s evolved into something else. We all get it McCollum team got hot and made a run congrats to Iowa. It happens every year. Dusty has at least proven he can make multiple runs and is recruiting at a clip to be the sustained power in the Big Ten for years to come. Which is why I hope he goes to the NBA after winning it all this year. So yes Michigan is the standard right now. Iowa will be back to being .500 again next year with held the budget at best than the top conference teams have.
