I like this plan. Though I worry about Estrella’s injury history. That’s a lot of money to spend on a player who hasn’t shown they can stay healthy. But the general allotment of money to a position group seems like a good path.

Listing to the hysterics podcast last weekend interview Rabby, he said Adams was who got IU in on Wilkerson last cycle. Obviously DeVries closed the deal. A lot of hate for Adams because of the roster construction last year but not sure how much fault he should have. I’m willing to trust DeVries on who is staff picks are.

We need bench players too. Get him on the roster so it’s one less spot to worry about. He likely isn’t costing a ton either.

It’s not just him for me. There are select players I remember or if people say a name of a former player it will connect. But if you tell me to name off the starting 5 of Creans first year I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it for the vast majority of years tbh.

I think we would have money for 1 more 2.5-3 million impact player if that’s the 4. But we have a PG that can get to the rim and cause a defense to rotate. Which should be good for Olsen and Beumbaugh to get open 3’s. I like Brumbaugh from what I’ve read about him. I’ve seen Burton and Estrella play and they translate.

It’s why I’m not worried about portal rankings this year. I want evaluation and fit. Then see how the team looks when the roster is complete. I’m also fine if they want to play 2-3 of the freshmen as bench rotational players.

I think part of the reason we are going to pull out of some races is that we will need to overspend on PG more than any other position imo. People will argue a Center but that’s not overpaying when the market is just higher than anticipated. That’s just the market. Spend what we need to to land Burton and then go from there Olsen shouldn’t cost a lot and can be a solid rotational piece. Even a starter and the 4th/5th option maybe.

Rowan Brumbaugh, Markus Burton, JP Estrella, Juke Harris, Sanada Fru, Jaeden Mustaf, Adam Olsen, Aiden Sherrell. Seem to be the names IU is in the mix for. Seems like the twitter brigade and 24/7 may disagree on some.

Andershock literally said IU is in the top line for Harris at this point. That was less than an hour ago.

For some sure. If they are on the good side of the bubble though, I think it shows progress and if there is a solid high school class coming in to stack on this one, it will calm some nerves.

Pretty much. They screw this one up and it’s likely a doomsday scenario for DeVries. If they don’t make the dance next year, then his seat is scratching hot in year 3 and he might not be able to recover from it, regardless of how good year 3 is.

Don’t they have some 7 footers already on the bench and they singed a top 100 7 footer as well. This is there step back year to blood in the new crop of talent and then be really good for the next 3 years.

Sure. I think we need to be prepared for 9 mil for top 3 if needed. Or go 3.5 for the top guy and then a couple 2.5 for the big 3. Plenty of ways to split the pie.

Found it interesting Rabby has been saying 12 mil for awhile now. Then on the hysterics pod over the weekend Eric said he had heard more money had come in but not enough to get to the $18 mil. Then later the talked like $14 mil was the number. So maybe fundraising is still occurring.

From On3 they had IU at 21 mil just NIL and then add your rev share. Either way it doesn’t matter to me. IU spent what they needed to compete in football and I pulled for them to win it all. Michigan did the same in basketball. I’d like IU to spend some more on basketball this portal window to get back to competing immediately but I doubt it happens. If they don’t I hope they drop some decent amount on some high school recruits this fall.

I agree. Will need to see how he does as a PG in the non conference. I do find it interesting that everyone thinks Ertl starts day 1 at Purdue but Karvala is ranked just a few spots below on the 24/7 composite. I know Karvala is slight on frame but maybe he can contribute off the bench too. Saving us money to spend elsewhere.

Ah. I was talking just NIL not rev share. Which if we include that, we will definitely see a $50 mil roster that some coaches are saying will happen soon.
