2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?

Evidently Trilly said his IU sources are telling him they want to take 6 guys from the portal. -
Transfer Portal w/IU Interest

I was doing some research on Fru and I think he will be a good addition. I don’t think the price is what is being rumored though. It will be lower. I don’t want a high usage big because I still want a guard oriented team. But give me a guy with some size and length to rebound, play defense, and score off of putbacks/dunks. -

100% agree: I also don’t think anyone should be sold. I like the style. First year was kinda ‘okay’. Yeah, I’m hopeful but not sold. I don’t think anyone should be off the train yet either. This upcoming season is massive for a multitude of reasons. -
He also wouldn’t be joining until after the NBA season and their NIL isn’t Duke NIL. In a conference that is 4th best at this point. Lower revenue share as well. Not sure UNC is the pinnacle anymore.

Yeah I’m there with you. But I don’t think he is out after 2 years regardless. I think Dolson wants to build through the high school ranks and will give him 3 years regardless of next years results. But the seat will be scratching hot if they don’t make the dance. So in Ryan Carr I trust. It’s a crucial portal season. -

It’s calmed it for me. I do trust Ryan Carr to evaluate talent and I like DeVries scheme. Now can we close on a solid portal haul? -
(2026) - Vaughn Karvala to INDIANA
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Ended the first half with 10 points. 2-2 from 3, and 3-3 from 2. Kids looks good but will be limited in conference until he adds weight. -
(2026) - Vaughn Karvala to INDIANA
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Kid runs the floor well and is active. His team seems to be filled with some guys who want to just take their man on 1 on 1. The one time they kicked it out Vaughn drained a 3. So I’m not going to take much from the stat line this game. He is slight in stature and needs to add 30 lbs of muscle. -

Yeah I think it’s an either or, not both if I were building a team. -

I usually use it more like a search engine to compile info for me. All about how you use it. -

Interestingly enough I checked ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok to see what they said. All were relatively the same ballpark of 1-1.5 million. only reason I checked was I was thinking 2.5-3 million. Wanted to see what AI could come up with after scouring the web. -

IU is involved but so are a few others. And I’m sure the list will grow. This one will be a fight I’m sure. Get Mark Cuban on line 1 please. -

Everything with a grain of salt, especially on April fools day. I’m not against them staying though. Miles can play some defense off the bench and comes cheap. We have no idea about Harris’s ability but also coming cheap. More to spend on impact portal guys. -

saw someone post this on another board and it’s crazy asking prices. says source told him Sananda Fru's asking price is 3-3.5M, and IU doesn't want to pay it. Mentioned he's heard 4M for Somto Cyril (not IU - related) His international guy mentioned 5M for Thiam (Cincy) recently too. Edit: Cincy's 247 staff mentioned 4M for Thiam yesterday... -
2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
Asha’man replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
All these comments about DeVries have been backhanded put downs. The people doing it just want to vent and I get it. But I started this thread to discuss the roster for next year but it’s evolved into something else. We all get it McCollum team got hot and made a run congrats to Iowa. It happens every year. Dusty has at least proven he can make multiple runs and is recruiting at a clip to be the sustained power in the Big Ten for years to come. Which is why I hope he goes to the NBA after winning it all this year. So yes Michigan is the standard right now. Iowa will be back to being .500 again next year with held the budget at best than the top conference teams have. -

Agreed. But this idea we need to bash on our coach and prop up a guy who finished .500 in conference but went on a run in the tournament is a joke. Get behind out team or get off the bus. You can get back on once we have a roster and but I’m tired of hearing about Iowa. Nobody wants to be Iowa. The goal is to be what Michigan is. Talk about Dusty May but not Bo Ryan 2.0. -
And that skill only worked in the corner. Limited player who got hot for 3 games. Good luck to him though.

With our style of play I don’t think we need a dominant center. All we need is a dunker, big body that can rebound and be a defensive presence. I’d rather spend what it takes to get a guy with those attributes than overspend for a dominant big this season. Then spend big on guards. We are going to have to spend less on some positions and I’d rather it be for a big than PG for example. edit: Ryan Carr is a Pacers guy. My guess is we try and moneyball the bigs if we can. Take a more NBA approach to how we spend the money. -
Seems like this would be a natural in with Carr now on staff. I wonder if GM Carr has him high on the portal board.
-
He can do the same and still be a .500 coach in conference.
-
I’m not saying Davis is better. I’m saying Davis made a national championship game and isn’t a good coach. So what McCollum did with Iowa is great but it doesn’t mean he will have future success. Over the course of the season he was a .500 coach in conference whose team made a run to the elite 8. Good for Iowa. I get the Dusty May hype and love but the McCollum love is weird to me. IU needs to worry about IU and all this handwringing over a coach who wanted Iowa over IU will go away.
-
Not at this level of basketball. Let’s see how he does now that Drake players are all going to be gone. I remember Mike Davis making it further than he did. There have been lots of tournament successes and then flame outs. Much more than the other way around. The regular season is a better barometer of how well a coach did over a single elimination tournament. And he was .500 in conference with little NIL compared to his peers.

What’s the % if he wasn’t in the corner? Felt like he was 20% or less anywhere other than the corner. But that could just be my feelings but not factual. -

Have to fact check it. But I use AI for recruiting info bc it’s a quicker search. When I see names that are out of eligibility I let AI know with a better command and it’s basically a good search engine. -
The Big Ten invitational in Houston this week is interesting in that Iowa gets to play its 2 biggest rivals in the ncaa tournament. Wasn’t surprised Iowa beat Nebraska. Iowa as an athletic department is in the heads of Nebraska. I was listening to an Iowa fan on Wednesday talk about how people in Lincoln were lamenting that it was Iowa again and the only sport they are better than Iowa is women’s volleyball. lol. 3 Big Ten teams already in the Elite 8 with both Michigans schools still to play. Has any conference ever got 5 teams to the elite 8?
