  1. I'll bet he's a fine golfer...
  2. I can absolutely agree with that. I wouldn't hate a McDermott hire. He's a solid coach. I just feel like if you're going to hire a 60 year old coach, he'd better be a guy who can get you a title soon. He isn't going to develop anymore. He's a completely finished product. And no more "bridge" talk. Such a stupid and unnecessary idea, especially in the age of NIL and the transfer portal.
  3. Could you imagine those two being on the court at the same time? LOL
  4. He went 4-12 each year in the Big 12 his last 3 years there. It wasn't getting better.
  5. He really is such a massively inefficient player. He would need to be willing to be nothing but a role player off the bench. And to take a sizeable pay cut.
  6. Sure, and maybe he would kill it at IU. Who knows? I think a major draw of Cig was the fact that he won everywhere he had been. That made him as much of a "sure thing" as Dolson could have hired. He was actually probably a better choice than many more established higher-profile coaches, just for that reason. McDermott is a very good coach. But, if I'm picking the next coach, I want to know why those 4 years at Iowa State went so poorly. You can't just ignore a bad part of someone's resume. Was it the competition or style of play? Did his coaching style change? Did the resources at his place of employment improve? What happened? Those questions would need to be asked...
  7. Sure, it was a while ago, but it was his last job and it was all 4 years.
  8. Yep. What's the point in hiring an older guy who you doubt is going to win you a title? There are probably a hundred coaches out there that can get IU an occasional league title and some Sweet 16s - especially with their B1G money & NIL warchest. I'd rather see them go after a coach who is younger and has some more of an upside than that.
  9. Thats true. But, what happened at Iowa State? McDermott was 59-68 there. If anything, I would worry about that...
  10. I realized just how different Purdue and IU were by how they treated their religious zealots. I started my post-secondary career at Purdue. The fire and brimstone preacher was most often called "Brother Max" by the students there. When I got to IU for grad school, I remember one of my classmates telling me about some guy screaming at students who was called "Mad Max." I thought, "That's a weird coincidence." Sure enough, same guy, of course. I wonder what his schedule was at the different campuses around the state. He seemed like he was at Purdue A LOT during my 4 years there. I didn't see him all that often at IU...
  11. We need rumors so badly today. Yesterday was a complete off-topic clusterf*ck. And I mean that in the most respectful way, my dear Mods. LOL
  12. Collins, because I think they're both good coaches, but Collins is younger. Not a fan of hiring an older coach, because I don't trust IU to hire another coach again in a few years. They've been so bad at hiring basketball coaches, if they DO actually get the hire right, I don't want it to be some guy who is going to be gone in just a few years. No way do I trust them to hire TWO good basketball coaches in a row...
  13. I'd like his former assistant a LOT more at this point. He's older, spent his entire career in the PNW at a mid-major and is an introvert.
  14. The last person anyone in Dolson's inner circle would trust is Woody. The guy has been on a victim tour with every announcing crew he's encountered...
  15. Since we were talking about religion, Brother Max wouldn't be happy about that report...
  16. I vote for the mod who cares the least and allows the most malfeasance around here...LOL
  17. Nah. That'd never happen. We're all heathens. Oh, wait, nevermind...LOL
  18. I have no scruples. I can be bought. Scott, make me an offer. I'll be waiting...
  19. It wouldn't surprise ANYONE in the least if Otz or Drew passed on the IU job (if they were actually offered). Both have non-basketball-related reasons that could keep them in their current conditions. Drew passed on the Kentucky job last year.He loves being at a Christian college. Of course he might pass on IU, as Kentucky has been a much better job over the past 25 years (at least) than the IU job. And Otz's wife played at Iowa State, so who knows if he will ever leave Ames?
  20. No one would quibble with Otz/Drew on a tier 1 list of coaches. I certainly wouldn't. I think A LOT of people would have an issue with having Brownell listed that high (alone on the next tier) - especially over any and all other candidates.
  21. Here is ChatGPT's response to Mark Turgeon's chances. It's an AI Monday afternoon:
  22. DMV still banging that mediocre Turgeon drum. You've got to give him credit. LOL
  23. Does somebody have a case of the Mondays, AH1971?
  24. Honestly, the grinder part is a fair worry to have with a guy who has been away from college coaching for over a decade. It's also a fair worry to have with an older coach like Few, especially after seeing that to an extreme in Woody. Obviously, you get Stevens if you can, but those people who think that hiring Stevens comes w/o any worry have blinders on. It's fair to point out possible issues with ANY coach...
