  1. Pitino isn't going to leave NY, but he is 72 years old. I would hope that IU isn't going to "retire" a 66 year old coach and hire a 72 year old coach. LOL
  2. Billy Donovan too. I mean, if we're playing fantasy bball coaches...
  3. Works for Cig. Worked for RMK. Seems to work for successful IU coaches.
  4. Right? Did he realize that RMK once coached here? Tyme showed his younger age with that comment...
  5. Well, the same is true if it ends up being Brownell too. That would mean that Dolson would have definitely missed on his top targets. Or he would've used some very odd criteria to choose IU's next coach, and tournament success wouldn't have been one of the chief criteria...
  6. That could be straight out of an RMK coached team...
  7. Could someone explain the signficance of this to me like I'm 5? Wouldn't this just mean that IU is planning/hoping to have an announcement by the 17th? They want people to be at work so that they can take advantage of the announcement to take in more donations? It doesn't matter who the new coach is, they should expect some kind of bump in donations to the program, right?
  8. I would argue that it might be Dolson's most important hire. Yes, the football coach generates the most income, but Woodson was hired by Dolson. We can argue that he unofficially hired by Buckner, but on paper, he was brought in by Dolson. If he fails again, that's 2 bad selections in a row by Dolson at "flagship" sports position at IU. I also think Cig has taken some of the pressure off of Dolson's hire of Woodson. If/When Cig's team starts to lose a few more games (as it will when it plays a tougher B1G schedule), more people are going to pay attention to Dolson's basketball coach selection(s).
  9. And Cig had the advantage of IU's football schedule being VERY favorable last season. I'm not saying he isn't a very good coach, because obviously he is. But last season isn't necessarily going to be repeated, so Dolson can't bank on that (literally)...
  10. Or it's the other way around. It's Brownell and McCollum's name is being tagged to make people feel that IU chose the more experienced coach. The one who had coached in the ACC a long time. Either way, I think these convoluted smokescreen ideas are just wild. In fact, I don't think IU is using ANY smokescreens. I think they've just talked to a few coaches through their search firm. THAT'S the smokescreen. Due diligence.
  11. Oh, absolutely agree. And the possibility (only the possiblity) of a Brownell hiring this morning does nothing to the help the mood either.
  12. Brownell would be the most IU choice ever. LOL
  13. Lots of "ifs" there. And I still give you that Woody: 1.) Missed NCAA tournament last year. 2.) Finished 9th place in the B1G with Top 10 NIL money from IU boosters (which I'm sure Dolson would happily remind the proper people of). Woodson was barely in the top 10 of the B1G. 3.) You're making a lot of future HUGE assumptions here. Winning 2 games in the B1G tournament and then winning 2 in the NCAA tournament. Remember, this is the same coach who couldn't make it past the Round of 32 with both TJD and JHS.
  14. I don't see "pushing out" Woodson as that big of a risk. A ton of money was being spent for what...a 9th place B1G team? And a team that completely missed the NCAA tournament last year? Not to mention the blow-outs? It was not a hard sell to most IU fans - even alums who contributed to the university. And what coach gets less than 4 years at IU, unless they do something unsavory that gets them fired? Come on, IU has a slow trigger finger...
  15. That sounds so specific and dangerously like a personal experience...LOL
  16. I hear this guy might still be available...
  17. Well, I think most people see salespeople as inherently dishonest, so that explains people's response. Your point is a good one, though, and it shows just how bad the Miller hire was. While he was looked upon as a "good hire" by most, he was a massive failure by the "search committee" and Glass. I can't believe that his personality wasn't a major negative in the interviewing process.
  18. And how much are you going to pay me? And I want to get to the league, so I want playing time. I also want to get a sweet ride while I'm in college. Can you help me with that?
  19. The problem is that Drake doesn't exactly have big boy talent. How well they do is mostly going to be determined by who they're matched up with.
  20. This. You don't make a scared hire. Don't hire for mediocrity. If you can't hire your home run (Stevens, Donvan, etc...), then you hire somebody who MIGHT be a home run in the future. You don't hire someone who has already proven themselves to be a singles or doubles hitter at a high major level already (Cronin, Brownell, etc...). And I honestly don't believe that IU is going to hire someone like Wade or Beard. I think that IU is too fearful of bad PR. While the faces have changed, this is the same university who self-reported and fired their coach for illegal phone calls...
  21. Somebody call a plumber...
  22. Totally agree. This was the moment that I knew Stevens was a fairy tale. The best "evidence" for Stevens was the silence. When we started to hear that other coaches were being contacted by IU's search firm, I knew Stevens was out.
  23. Things aren't that bad yet. LOL It took Woody 3.5 years (and an injury and a firing...err.... a "retirement") to realize that maybe, just maybe, it's better to play without two bigs on the floor at the same time and to put your best shooters out there. We could get nearly any competent college coach at this poin and he would be better than Woody and would be more open to change...
