They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

We've already tried the less successful brother of another coach route once. We don't need to try that again. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Nonsense to think I said he had flatlined as a coach. Ridiculous actually. I said he has improving. That still doesn't mean he's good enough to coach at IU. He seems like a decent mid-major coach, kind of like Alford. Also, at what point in a coach's career do the results start counting? 30? 35? 40? Whenever it's good enough to support your position? Asking for future reference. -

It's funny that you think it's his name people are opposed to instead of his dismal coaching record, including a stop at a B1G school. Even at NM, he's only won 64% overall and 52% of conference games. So I'm going to have to disagree with you that if he had a different name the board would think differently of him. Or do you mean if he didn't have the FIU and Minnesota jobs on his resume? Then he'd be in just year 4 as a HC and, while having a decent year, not exactly setting the world on fire. So I don't think we'd be too enamored with him even then. Since you defended Woodson for so long, it's not surprising that you think Pitino Jr has done a phenomenal job at NM. He's having a good year but to say he's been phenomenal is quite a stretch. But compared to Woodson, those numbers do look a bit better, I'll give you that. Pitino has 3 more wins/3 less losses overall along with 3 games over .500 instead of just 1 in conference. So much better. I'll grant you that Pitino's teams are getting better while Woodson's are getting worse. But still... -
Not true. He spent a year in Arkansas. lol I don't know if he'll leave, maybe not. But I think Dolson should at least try. I'd take him over May.

The B1G as a while is pretty meh this year. The question is are they (Oregon) good enough to beat a Mike Woodson coaches team at home or not?

That's Dolson's ace in the hole during negotiations. -
What a shame.

Gates, Shrewsberry, and now Pitino Jr. Are there any mediocre coaches you don't like and would be opposed to? ;) -
Where I'm at right now is if they can't pull Stevens away from the NBA, they should try to pull McCasland out of Texas.

That depends on whom they end up hiring if it isn't Stevens. -

I don't know if any of that is true but I will say that it's both hilarious and true to character for Woodson to think he's done enough to get to choose his replacement. I already didn't want Shrewsberry as the next coach based on his record, now I want him even less. -

That was from back before Coogan committed, soon after Spindler's Nebraska visit. Jan 28. -

Zyn is backtracking now. Followed closely by: It was so widely reported that he did commit to Nebraska though. I wonder if he signed? That would make this very interesting. -

Recently? As in today? I remember seeing that a few days ago but see articles from earlier today saying he's closing in on a decision. -
I haven't watched TT and have seen only a bit of UM but comparing his resume to May's, I'd take him over May. He doesn't have the FF run that May has but he has a much longer resume as HC and has done a good job everywhere he's gone with success in other tournaments. CBI and NIT Championships at North Texas, 2 D2 E8 in 2 years, as well as NJCAA runner-up and champion. I wouldn't be upset if he was hired. I'm still not 100% sold on May.

That depends on what you're talking about. You can have percentages over 100% when comparing things, when talking about increase/decrease, and other times. I don't know what this particular instance is referring to so that might not apply but to say that a percentage is always 100 or less is incorrect. Even when used where impossible, like effort given or amount of agreement, it is generally understood that higher is better even if not technically possible. -
I would take McCasland over Gates. He seems like he might be a decent hire. Due just to how he's doing this year, I'd take Gates over the other Stuhoo favorite, Shrewsberry. I don't really want either one, though.

The Hoosiers split with Louisville (at UL) in the final dual meet of the season. The men won and the women lost. They also set 6 pool records in the process. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2025/1/31/mens-swimming-and-diving-no-2-6-hoosiers-set-six-pool-records-in-split-with-no-11-10-louisville https://swimswam.com/julia-dennis-swims-21-61-50-free-as-louisville-women-defeat-indiana-iu-men-earn-win/ -

A realist wouldn't talk about Wade in conjunction with the IU job.

He has a son who is a freshman at ND this year on the basketball team. I guess he also has a daughter who is in HS. Maybe Stevens wants to coach his son? I guess we'll see. -

Better shape only because there are no sanctions. The new coach may have to recruit a whole new team just like Crean did. The portal and NIL should make that easier, though. -

It is a DD tweet so it's pretty much a given that it was a stupid tweet. It's what he does.
