  1. This site wasn't loading for a few minutes. I was momentarily excited thinking I had missed the news that Woodson had been fired and all the traffic had crashed the site. Alas, that wasn't the case...
  2. Who moderates the moderators? The mods are derailing this thread! We need @Class of '66 Old Fart to come get them back in line.
  3. It is true that if Woodson had played anywhere else then he would have been fired last year. It's also true that if Woodson had played anywhere else then he wouldn't have been hired in the first place. But yes, internal politics keeping a bad coach around too long simply because they played at the university were definitely part of the reason I didn't want any former players hired in the first place. Another reason is the coaching acumen of those former players. Then there is the baggage that the best of them (though still far from great himself) has.
  4. Vague comments lead to misunderstandings? Who knew?
  5. Hummel with the call for a game at Purdue? I wasn't going to watch before I found this out but now...I'm definitely not going to watch. I know the team is garbage without having to hear him say basically that every other play.
  6. I would add that the revenue sharing is capped. The cap is $20.5M per school for this first year it will be offered. That amount is divided at the discretion of the school as to the amount each sport and athlete receives. Title IX also factors in to that but it's unclear exactly what that means. As for NIL, there is no way the NCAA could cap or otherwise hinder an athlete's ability to earn money from other sources at this point. You're absolutely right that they did it to themselves by being reactive instead of proactive and tried so hard to maintain the status quo of "amateur" athletes while raking in billions of dollars. As for the schools having any say in NIL matters, it does make sense when you consider that most of a coach's salary comes from basically that so it would be hypocritical of them to say they couldn't do that for the athletes as well. What is really needed are binding contracts. I don't see that happening until there is some sort of CBA which itself requires several steps before happening. Anyways, since we have a bad team despite spending around $6M in NIL, let's fire Mike Woodson and get a competent coach in here.
  7. Maybe if this was Purdue.
  8. It's confirmation bias. He's been blaming the fans for years so he'll believe anything that makes the fans look like the problem.
  9. At this point, does anyone care about IU basketball enough to send death threats? i could definitely see it 20 years ago but now.. I'm kind of skeptical. If he is getting death threats, that's unacceptable. It's just a game.
  10. If you found out you were about to get let go at work then let it be known that you were going to quit in a year do you think they'd still let you go as planned?
  11. Yes, but that was after the regular season. The transfer portal for football opens before the bowl games start so that could happen so that could happen even if the coach stays even though it's unlikely.
  12. Here's a question. I know if a coach leaves (for whatever reason) in the spring or summer after the transfer portal window is closed the players on that team get 30 days to enter the portal. Is that true if the coach leaves is fired or resigns during the season? If a coach is fired during the season, is there the possibility (however unlikely) that school might be unable to field a team because too many players hit the portal immediately?
  13. 1998 when IU beat Temple on an AJ Guyton 3. I was at that game under the basket. It was intense.
  14. Your multiple sarcastic replies today show you're having an visceral response to posters. Maybe you should focus on your posting process to remove the emotions from your replies.
  15. Maybe he will but if he does how much pull do you think he would actually have to pull it off? I'm going with not a lot. What exactly do you think he would be able to do?
  16. I guess they really pack the students in tight. They make them stand at a 45° angle so they can get more in there. That means they're standing the whole game because they can't sit down, no room to do so. Could be that she locked her knees. Maybe she was drunk and/or sick. Maybe it was just too hot. An update says she's ok and walked out of the stadium.
  17. Losing to IU must've really demoralized them.
  18. Hunter has already been here as part of 2 failed coaching staffs. It's time for him to move on, imo. I honestly hope the next coach cleans house.
  19. Other than rant and rave, what could a pissed off Mike Woodson really do though? It's not as though he's RMK and can convince top recruits to look elsewhere. He can't scare off potential coaches or staff. His buddy Buckner won't be office for much longer after the season ends.
  20. I don't think DD is defending Woodson. AFIK, he wants Woodson gone, too. He does want a former player as the coach but only 1 of 2 would be okay with him: himself or Alford. So I'm pretty sure the narrative DD is going for is that Woodson lacks leadership and has lost the locker room.
  21. They have. https://apnews.com/article/florida-todd-golden-stalking-allegations-title-ix-18f87b77d4b433cc00eae9c5bbaabff5 He still won't be IU's coach. Why would he leave one football school for another football school? Regardless, let's fire Woodson.
  22. Indeed. I believe he helped start the Renaissance movement.
  23. I didn't believe that last year and wanted Dolson fired (I even started the thread lol). Now I've come around to believe that he might have actually wanted Woodson gone last year but was blocked. Remember that the AD's office never made any official statement of Woodson's return or even a statement of support. There was radio silence from the office. The only thing we got was a "leak" to the media that Woodson would be back. That could be viewed two ways: 1) the AD/university don't care about basketball or 2) the AD didn't support Woodson getting another year. I'm going with #2. This year is such a disaster that I don't think a lame duck Buckner has the power or credibility to keep Woodson longer. With 2 years left on the contract, it's extend or let go time. Woodson definitely hasn't earned the extension.
  24. Serious question - Have teams ever brought someone in from the outside to be interim coach for a mid-season firing? If so, I've missed it. I always seen them give the position to an assistant coach. Don't Kenya Hunter and Yasir Rosemond both have the title of Associate Head Coach? I would think one of those two would be the default choice for interim HC.
