IUFB vs #3 OSU -- 9/2/2023 at 3:30est on CBS
go iu bb replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Coin doesn't lie. Oh, wait, that's the ball that doesn't lie. Never mind. -
It's not as though they didn't try. They did. The players just chose to go elsewhere. It happens. Woodson is obviously not like Crean in that he doesn't fill a scholarship just to fill a scholarship. He knows what he's looking for and couldn't fill the scholarship with that type of player so it'll sit unused.

Looks like I typed his usual rankings wrong. 30s and 40s was what I meant. I was thinking top 40 and top 50. -

You must be remembering old rankings. I don't remember him being that low, usually ranked in the 40s or 50s until somewhat recently. They have him as a 4* at 27 with a composite ranking of 5* at 22. While I think those are inflated by who his daddy is, the most likely rankings to really be huge difference makers in year 1 are top 5 or top 10. His classmate is much more likely have a huge impact than him. That's if he even plays this year. https://247sports.com/player/bronny-james-46058619/ -

Bronny James is on that list. - Like many other honors he's gotten, would he be if his dad wasn't Lebron? Doubtful. He's good but not great from everything I've read of him. Sounds like he's getting overrated and overhyped. - Will he even play this year after his cardiac arrest? Seems pretty risky. Damar Hamlin (NFL/Bills) is playing again but his cardiac arrest was ~9 months ago and could be attributed to getting hit in the chest. It hasn't been nearly as long form Bronny and I don't think it was caused by contact. Also on that list is Booker. I think he's very overrated. Has a ton of talent but doesn't seem to have the mentality to be great. I guess we'll see. IU will play against at least 2 of the players on that list. -

Recruiting is also a numbers game. If you're getting only 2 visits per year, most years you'll miss on both of those players. With 10 visits, the chances are much better of landing at least 1 of those players. Talent also likes to play with talent so getting that 1 player can also lead to more. -
It probably had more to do with his depending on freshmen especially when combined with those freshmen increasingly becoming good but not great.

Not necessarily. It could also mean that Booker didn't impress in the game/games that was/were actually seen. -
(2025)- SF Aleks Alston to Maryland

6-9, 170 lb. Yikes, he needs to hit the buffet line and weight room. Still has 2 years to fill out. -
So NCAA. You can use your skills to get paid BUT you can't show your skills as part of the agreement to get paid. Totally makes sense.
-
A 2 is not a PG. IU has 3 players who can play point: XJ, Cupps, and Galloway (if needed). The question is where is the depth at the other wing position (the 2 or shooting guard)? The guys mentioned could probably fill that role even if they can't play the point.

Even taking into account that walk-ons enter the portal that is a huge number with no team. Maybe low-major bench players are the majority?

(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

This Longhorns writer thinks IU has the lead here. Doesn't sound like he really has any inside knowledge but still nice to see. https://hookemheadlines.com/2023/08/12/texas-basketball-predicting-longhorns-next-commit-after-cam-scott/2/ -
Right, the best upgrade the stadium could get would be a winning home team.
-
I'm pretty sure Old Fart posts about every sport.
-
Sounds like he wouldn't have done well at the college level and I can't imagine he'll do well as a pro unless he grows some thicker skin quickly. He might be good but I doubt he's good enough that coaches will go out of their way to accommodate his sensitivity. Then there are the fans...
-
I totally agree about the pictures. I do appreciate that this one actually included measurables unlike most of the before/after photos.
-
He played for UConn last year. Didn't do too much in the 36 games he played.
-
Thanks. I found this article. They'll probably be very good again but being early in the season IU has a chance to steal one if they mesh earlier than UConn does. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/uconn-basketball-roster-breakdown-starting-lineup-prediction-bench-rotation-depth-outlook-for-2023-24/

That's a nice early test. I haven't paid too much attention to other teams: how much of last year's team is UConn returning?

(2024) - Patrick Ngongba II to Duke

Sure doesn't. No mention of IU by him at all, even when talking about schools in the mix. He left out both IU and UK but mentioned the other 6 schools in his top 8. Also no mention of wanting to visit IU. I'd also say that I find it unlikely he'll end up at K-State. Even though he said it's a cool place, he mentioned twice in a short time how it's in the middle of nowhere.
