  1. Matta won't be able to "recruit" as such (off campus) and he won't be able to do any bench-coaching
  2. sounds like Lewis may be pretty happy where he is
  3. thought Lander had been contacted by C Mack almost as soon as he entered the transfer portal?
  4. since Goodman is the guy who stated unequivocally "I don't see any way Archie can fail at IU" his reaction today is an encouraging development
  5. for Fife to come I would assume 1) he feels he's 2nd in line, not 1st, to replace Izzo and 2) he would get a similar title on Woody's staff
  6. that depends on whom those assistants turn out to be
  7. interesting that getting a Head NBA coach now (Stevens) would be considered all but impossible due to the timing, but getting an Assistant NBA Coach is apparently no problem
  8. my point about Oats (& by extension Muss) was exactly that: both schools could've matched any IU offer, so it would've taken some other factor(s) to persuade them to make the move to Bloomington
  9. don't see Fife coming unless it's as (at least unofficial) Head Coach in Waiting
  10. same w/ Nate Oats and Alabama
  11. $4.4 Mil in Philly = what, $7.5 Mil in Bloomington?
  12. agree to an extent, but IMO most of the recruitable "personnel" these days have more offensive skills than defensive ones, particularly shooting
  13. again, what the fanbase feels has little if anything to do with it--it's what Dolson and the BOT feel about Drew and his history. Personally, having lived through everything from the "Dickens omni-probation" in the 1960s through the Knight tenure, Sampson debacle, Crean schizophrenia, and Miller detour, I simply don't have enough ethical outrage left to 1) object strenuously to a potential Drew hire or 2) object strenuously if Dolson rules out a Drew hire. I'll just roll with it either way. Same w/ any potential hire of one of the "IU guys" too. If it happens, I won't lose sleep over it but I won't feign enthusiasm about it either, despite the inevitable follow-up pronouncements that said IU guy "will unite the fanbase" and "was Dolson's #1 choice the whole time," given the implausibility of such assertions. As much as I'd like a "splash hire" if only to rub it in the face of the overrated, overpaid "experts" in the sports media, I'm also more than prepared for a much more modest hire such as a Fife. And if that is what does eventually occur, I'm also prepared to hear the same shallow, lazy "experts" who keep telling us at every opportunity how far from elite the IU program is, and how unrealistic its fanbase is, rip Dolson for such an uninspiring, "non-elite" hire. That's just how their games are played.
  14. not one OR the other, one MORE THAN the other--which in today's game, would appear more often than not to be offense
  15. Titus made an interesting point: in the Sweet 16 there are (now were) 7 teams in KenPom's top 25 defenses and 11 in KenPom's top 25 offenses--and that doesn't include Alabama, which is somehow outside the top 25 offenses statistically speaking possible moral: much like college football, college basketball is currently in something of an "offense > defense" era
  16. as long as they're candy-striped straitjackets......
  17. but that doesn't really explain Dolson's allusion to a 2nd donor who was willing to help with "transition costs" unless SD had reason to think he'd probably be dealing with a 2nd buyout attached to whatever new coach he'd be likely to hire--if it was just "get Archie gone at all costs" then I'd think the one donor would've been enough
  18. sorry but that's wrong, it's been said numerous times on several message boards: Drew (not just his assistants) got the program cited by the NCAA for "failure to monitor" (a la Kelvin Sampson) and the school suspended Drew from coaching for several games. Also, the NCAA found that Drew's program violated rules prohibiting having "talent scouts" at its basketball clinics. We can debate all day and all night how egregious or innocuous Drew's behavior was back then, but none of that debate really matters. The only thing that matters is, how would Dolson and the BOT feel about Drew's history, especially after the Sampson debacle? Maybe they feel that disqualifies Drew from consideration; maybe they think it's no big deal. I don't pretend to know, but what I do know is 1) what Drew actually did and 2) how it involved more than just Morefield's interactions with Perea.
  19. w/ Drew it's about more than just the HMP situation which may or may not matter to Dolson, I have no idea; but there's more to the story than just the Morefield/Perea angle
  20. lots of people had Smart getting fired, so it's no major surprise he got out of town first, especially once Marquette let Wojo go
  21. I'm really puzzled that the UVA fanbase made Goodman's list. I thought a big part of that job's attraction to Bennett was its lack of a "crazy fanbase/fishbowl" environment?
  22. maybe someone should contact Sage Steele and ask her to give ESPN some "pushback" about the IU fanbase
