  1. I’d like to think they could bring in 3 guards like Hickman, Carlyle and Rice (or someone like Small as 1of the 3). And perhaps Humrichous (sp?) as the 6th guy, if my arithmetic is right with Tucker added. Bringing in guys like Hickman and Humrichous could go a good ways towards fixing the shooting problems. In theory, anyway. Whether it would actually fix those problems on the court or not would depend on more than just the players involved, at least imho it would.
  2. Maybe “shooting guard” in the NCAA’s tallest lineup
  3. Is the big man IU recruited out there? Arrinten? maybe he’ll consider the portal
  4. IIRC doesn’t Xavier have 1or 2 guys in the portal too? Opening for Foster fwiw
  5. I think Marquette extended Smart through 2029 and conceivably he could have a buyout almost as big as Otzelberger’s
  6. Yeah everything I’ve seen suggests he’ll stay on the Coast or maybe go to Gonzaga
  7. If they’re truly recruiting Carlyle, maybe they should re-recruit Stojakovic and even consider Raynaud
  8. Maybe they can at least get a visit out of Amari Williams (unless he’s been scooped up too)
  9. Did the post player from Charlotte that IU contacted already commit? Dishon Jackson iirc—think I saw somewhere that Iowa State may have snagged him.
  10. My point is that I suspect the ACTUAL expectations for Woodson next season will be minimal, possibly to the extent that simply making the tournament will be enough. Exceeding expectations may not even be an issue in that case. It may be that any serious discussion about a change next winter could only be triggered by another instance of missing the NCAAT. And even then we will have the same BOT Chair (until 7/1/2025) and donors (I’m tempted to call them “owners” at this point) in place during any hypothetical coaching search, which imo would not be an encouraging sign.
  11. If Woodson won 18-20 games next season (including multiple blowout losses), finished 6th or 7th in conference and got into the NCAAT as a #12 or #14 seed, then lost during the first weekend, would you feel he should be retained? I suspect he would be (unless he voluntarily decided to retire). If nothing else, that kind of scenario seems more likely to me than a deep tournament run and as such it’s a potential dilemma I’m more worried about than the opposite one.
  12. I agree about IU Admin being historically too timid and/or complacent to approach athletics as proactively and aggressively as other B1G 10 schools do. I hope that changes over the life of the new rights contract, but I’m not optimistic on that front, especially after Dolson’s comments about some of that money being “already spent.” I believe Texas A&M didn’t actually cut Fisher “a check” but the 12th Man Foundation cut Fisher a $19 million check and A&M wil pay Fisher the remaining $58 million from university funds (not booster money) with annual payments spread out over 8 years. Hard for someone as cynical as I am to see IU taking that approach with its own university funds instead of relying on its athletic boosters to bail it out from its numerous hiring mistakes. Which imo is how we end up with a basketball program that needs a serious intervention and change but that also appears to be controlled by a small handful of donors who want no such intervention or change to be made.
  13. Marquette is a better program than IU now and since MU has extended Smart through 2029 I would assume there’s a pretty expensive buyout in place as well, similar to Otzelberger and Iowa State.
  14. or Cal to UL and Billy D to UK and IU to Final 4 in soccer, of course……
  15. Not sure being unable to finish is a deal-breaker at IU these days
  16. I gather Filipowski has a brother at Harvard who’s entered the portal? Maybe a twin brother iirc
  17. Maybe guys like Sprinkle, Medved, English, etc.
  18. My fear is that in order for Woodson’s staunchest (and wealthiest) supporters to give in and let the AD make a change, it may take another season of not making the NCAAT. If so, I also fear that the job will no longer be as attractive to potential coaches as some IU fans think it would be, even with the compensation, tradition, facilities and NIL involved (and presumably the NIL might go down with Woodson’s exit). It could be a scenario where no “proven” or established coach would want to take on what might be (by next March) a major reclamation project, portal or no portal. Dolson might then have to just roll the dice with an assistant from a successful P5 program who’s not been a head coach, or with a guy who has a successful HC resume at a lower level.
  19. think Gentry was also an asst for Underwood at Illinois at one time
  20. If I were at OkSU I think I’d be going after Devries (Drake coach)
  21. You could also say the IU job is kind of toxic, and that the Big 12 is a better basketball conference than the B1G 10. I assume Okla State will open up (if it hasn’t already)
  22. He also turns 70 this year I believe
  23. I’d be really surprised if May would take another P5 job this off-season and then bail on it a year later. If Dolson wants May, I suspect he’ll either have to hire him this cycle or hope he stays at FAU for another year.
  24. and currently has about an $18 million buyout ($15 million a year from now)
