if he's satisfied with just making the playoffs, then maybe so; if he truly wants to win it all, then I think at some point he may get tired of the NBA grind (and watching other teams leapfrog his via free agency) and consider a return to college where, if he picks the right program, he could coast, comparatively speaking, and still win big and still make as much money as he'll ever need. I still don't think Brad's situation is as "black and white" as a lot of people make it out to be. On the other hand, I suspect his chances of returning specifically to IU are, unfortunately.

Beard 1) doesn't need further evaluation and 2) likely has no interest in IU, IMO. Oats? Who knows at this point. And I don't see a scenario where Dolson can wait beyond next spring (season 5)--either Miller salvages something out of this season and/or makes some real, tangible progress in 2021-22, or the issue becomes unavoidable. I've always felt that the likelihood of Brad S returning to college basketball was greater than most people assumed. Sure, he didn't like college recruiting, but MOST COACHES DON"T EITHER and at some point he may think he's taken the Celtics as far as he can, even with all those "awesome" draft picks Ainge accumulated. Brad has to know that if he returned to college BB he wouldn't have to work nearly as hard recruiting kids as he did at Butler--he would just have to pick the right school and rely on his reputation/image as Butler's F4 coach and the Celtics coach. Which makes me still wonder whether he might ultimately end up at, yes, Duke or maybe UNC. But not, unfortunately, at Indiana.

at this point I think you might be looking at either successful "small school" head coaches or assistants at "big school" programs like Duke UVA, UNC, etc still don't think anything matters for at least another year--if the rest of this season heads further down into the toilet bowl, I assume both Miller and Dolson regard the 2021-22 season as "make or break"

Arch is on record as believing that tOSU is "the best BB coaching job" in the B1G 10 because 1) it has the budget, facilities, recruiting base, etc, as well as 2) relatively little pressure since at tOSU it's all about football in retrospect, maybe that should've given Glass second thoughts about whether Arch could withstand the pressure of being IU's BB coach

that's my point: if we're going to hire a coach who's "broken the rules" why not hire a proven OUTSTANDING coach like Sampson instead of settling for a discount version like Drew? I'm not interested in Drew's "Indiana ties" (and, for the record, Sampson would never consider returning to IU) and Dolson would never consider Drew either--so the whole thing is IMO moot. AM's in no danger until AT LEAST Feb-March 2022 (more likely April 1st 2022) unless Cuban and/or some other "kingmaker" IU booster wants to step in and tell Dolson 1) Archie's done and 2) I'll pick up the tab for his buyout

All anyone really needs to do is go back and re-read AM's contract to see he's probably in no danger--the buyout's too big until at least 4/1/2022. And I haven't seen enough of Dolson in action yet to know or feel he'd be up to the task of finding a better replacement. Looks to me like we just have to tough it out for a while....maybe a good long while. And hope the team catches fire and makes a run in the NCAA tournament this year or next.
