  1. again, this is my point: if John's hire is conditioned on Dolson/IU getting to pick his assistant(s), I don't think there's any way Beilein will accept that. Nor should he. So if JB truly is the "backup plan" to Beard, I think Scott may end up moving farther down whatever list he's actually using--unless Dolson & the donors are OK with the specter of Patrick Beilein becoming IU's head BB coach around 2025 or so. Which IMO would be reckless.
  2. my whole point re: a potential J Beilein hire is that you'd likely get Patrick Beilein as a "twofer" w/ PB being installed as John's likely successor--for me, that's a hard pass I don't know why some (not you) seem to think Dolson could 1) hire J Beilein and simultaneously 2) make John install someone Scott/IU picked as John's successor--that's just not how these things work
  3. lifetime sentence for future employment? no someone I'd want as "Head Coach in Waiting" at IU? absolutely not
  4. you OK w/ Patrick Beilein? 'cause that's who we very well might get if John B is hired as Head Coach ask the folks at Niagara what they think of Patrick now
  5. Beilein would not even consider taking the job unless he could hire his own assistants, and few (if any) of them would be "Indiana guys"
  6. I can't think of anyone else who would be worth $7 million--including Beard.
  7. I think retaining Kenya Hunter deserves some consideration
  8. being called a "miserable fanbase" by an Ohio State guy is kinda like having your family values criticized by the late Charles Manson
  9. something better than 12-15? maybe a 14th seed in the tournament? maybe keeping the roster intact? keeping Duncomb and CJ Gunn? possibly becoming a major player in the Jalen Washington recruitment? or perhaps those are signs of a "cannibalistic fanbase" in Jay Bilas' eyes
  10. don't think you need to worry, this is surely IU's last, best shot at Brad--after this, other colleges would be more likely as a destination if he left the NBA next year or beyond
  11. I don't see why, with Matta or Beilein, additional money from a 2nd donor would be needed. Neither has a "buyout" involved, and neither is in a position to demand the kind of salary Brad or Beard could, given their time away from college coaching.
  12. I'd be happy just re-recruiting Duncomb, CJ Gunn and Jalen Washington
  13. they need a stern lecture from Jay Bilas
  14. too bad it can't be like Alabama football where you have 3-4 ex-head coaches roaming the sidelines as "consultants"
  15. agree; think Coach Hunter should be retained
  16. I think most most Duke fans assume it'll go to someone from Coach K's coaching tree FWIW, Hurley is supposedly pretty unhappy at Ariz State; I haven't really kept up w/ Amaker's progress maybe they'll give it to Bilas, he seems to have all the answers....dws
  17. IU is a wonderful school that has produced many successful, wealthy alums who love and support their alma mater. There may well be more than one, but off the top of my head I can only think of one who qualifies as a "billionaire"
  18. maybe if the Celtics went on a 6-game losing streak? that seems to get a reaction from folks in charge
  19. IIRC a year or so ago Doyel was all but guaranteeing that, if Brad left the NBA, it would be for Duke when Coach K retires
  20. a lot of college coaches dislike recruiting, including IIRC John Beilein
  21. they came within a shot of beating Duke with a bunch of guys Coach K would never have recruited. That's all I needed to see.
  22. considering how foolish they would look if Dolson did somehow get Brad, I'm pretty sure most of them are rooting against it.
  23. tend to agree: if Brad wants to stay in the NBA long-term, fine, but it'll likely be somewhere like Detroit or Sacramento, not Boston.
  24. I'm uneasy as well, especially given the likelihood that the designated successor could be Patrick Beilein.
