  1. IU is a wonderful school that has produced many successful, wealthy alums who love and support their alma mater. There may well be more than one, but off the top of my head I can only think of one who qualifies as a "billionaire"
  2. maybe if the Celtics went on a 6-game losing streak? that seems to get a reaction from folks in charge
  3. IIRC a year or so ago Doyel was all but guaranteeing that, if Brad left the NBA, it would be for Duke when Coach K retires
  4. a lot of college coaches dislike recruiting, including IIRC John Beilein
  5. they came within a shot of beating Duke with a bunch of guys Coach K would never have recruited. That's all I needed to see.
  6. considering how foolish they would look if Dolson did somehow get Brad, I'm pretty sure most of them are rooting against it.
  7. tend to agree: if Brad wants to stay in the NBA long-term, fine, but it'll likely be somewhere like Detroit or Sacramento, not Boston.
  8. I'm uneasy as well, especially given the likelihood that the designated successor could be Patrick Beilein.
  9. and if so I also believe it will more likely than not be with a team other than the Celtics
  10. which just shows that all involved should be taken with a grain of salt, and that Goodman is hardly a definitive authority on the subject
  11. he could've just used "DWS" and saved himself the explanation
  12. is this the same Goodman who saw "no way Archie Miller can fail at IU" 4 years ago?
  13. Dolson shouldn't have to increase the salary much (if any) if he's hiring an inactive guy like Matta or Beilein instead of a current coach with a buyout
  14. wonder who the 2 (non-Cuban) boosters are?
  15. maybe he'll have the opportunity to leave the Celtics for the Pistons or Kings instead--that should be fun times
  16. personally I think any hypothetical decision by Brad would have less to do with extensions, or contracts in general, than it would with the question of whether his preference for NBA over college coaching has changed over time or not. FWIW there have definitely been expressions of dissatisfaction about Brad's coaching in the Boston media--as well as suggestions that some of the Celtic players regard him as "a college coach" and have basically tuned him out.
  17. so this season (maybe due to Covid?) the usual obligation of invited teams to participate has apparently been waived
  18. hope it's not just about accepting an NIT bid.....(sigh)
  19. maybe he's headed to Arkansas to play for Musselman.....
  20. some of these people, I suspect, are the same people who resisted the facilities updates and construction of Cook Hall since "Bob Knight won championships without them" and they thought the improvements were unnecessary this time around I additionally suspect they're more worried about the (supposed) national "bad optics" that might result from dismissing a coach in his 4th year than they are worried about wins and losses. Appearance over substance, in other words...
  21. I keep hearing that Ainge "loves Brad" but I also get the impression that Ainge's job may be in as much or more jeopardy than Stevens' is
  22. not sure how I feel yet about Pope as a potential candidate, but I do suspect he's less "tied down" to Provo (or Utah in general) than a lot of folks assume last time I looked, there were 3 LDS churches in Bloomington
  23. I suspect it would be relatively easy for Dolson to talk to Brad, but much harder to talk him into changing his mind re: NBA coaching unless all the recent rancor and criticism by Celtic fans, and possible frustration of dealing with certain NBA players, has given Brad a new perspective on college-vs-pro coaching (and, yes, that would include the "horrors" of recruiting that nearly all college coaches dislike)
  24. I could see him staying in conference and ending up at Kansas
