They’ve beaten Ball State, Eastern Illinois and UConn. Nothing to be proud of yet. This defense loves giving up the wide open TD today. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Discipline. The defense has actually gotten worse. The offense has clearly gotten way worse. The offensive line is one of the weakest in the Big Ten and probably one of the weakest of P5 schools. Special teams still suck so that hasn’t gotten worse. We always seem to have a really good kicker so that hasn’t changed. Though the kid who does kickoffs isn’t very good. Louisville should get the death penalty and Zona and KU should be getting the hammer just like GT if not worse. NCAA needs to send a message that the BS won’t be tolerated. If they rollover, the NCAA is done for. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

If he’s worked his butt off and starts knocking down 3’s at 30%+, then it’s a success. NBA teams don’t care about players shooting mid range. If you can hit it, then you can hit it. A guy like Smith, they want to be able to hit from the corner. A 3 and D guy they can put in the corner so he can slash and get a lob or hit a corner 3. OKC did it a lot with Jerami Grant. I’d take a Smith shooting 31% from 3. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I think Smith could be a more athletic 35 year old Iguodala. Who looked rough last season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Andre Iguodala isn’t a shooter or anything close to it. He’s actually horrid like Smith. But at one point he was about Smith’s size, super athletic and one heck of a defensive player. Something Smith could easily turn into. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Think about where 10 feet is at on a court. You’re making post moves at 10 feet. You’re 5 feet inside the free throw line. If you’re in the paint period you arent shooting mid range. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

10 feet isn’t even mid range. You’re shooting a hook shot, floater or going for the layup or dunk at that point. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

My Sophomore year I had cat scratch fever and they ended up finding out that I had at one point broken my L5 vertebrate. It was healed when they found it. I missed the last 10 games of the season. When I returned I was very cautious about taking hits even though the break had healed. Even still I worry about falling on my back or anything while playing. There can be a big mental hurdle for some. I partially tore my ACL my Junior year and it took a few months to get back to jumping and landing confidently. Even broke the growth plate in one wrist before my sophomore season started but had no issues or mental hurdles returning from that even though I used my left a lot. But Hunters rumored issue is much different than an ACL year or even breaking your back or wrist. That’s something that could pop up at any given time and do serious damage. To tell Smith to go work on mid range instead of 3pt shots will only hurt Smith in the long run. And I’m sure a big part of the feedback he got from NBA guys was getting a 3pt shot which helps IU and helps Smith long term. Mid range nowadays is really only used by iso scorers and the popping big man in the pick and pop game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I love bank shots. The backboard is there for a reason. Use it. Not shooting underhanded is definitely a style thing. Kids don’t want to be made fun of. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

And DeMar DeRozan. Even Kobe and Michael weren’t great 3pt shooters. But Kobe, MJ and Wade are the 3 greatest 2 guards of all time. DeRozan has always been considered to be inefficient because of his love for mid range. KD shot like 55% from mid range last season, but that’s KD. Justin Smith is more relatable to guys like Aaron Gordon who shot 33% from mid range and Andre Iguodala who shot 24.2%. Gordon also shot 39.1% from corner 3’s and 33.9% from the top of the key. Iguodala who is just an awful shooter shot 41% from the corners and 28% from the top. Those are guys Smith is molded after. And no I don’t consider 8 feet to be mid range. That’s floater range nowadays. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Best thing a defense can do is make someone take an 18 foot jump shot. Not many KD’s walking around to hit that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

You just have to manage it correctly. In baseball it says to hit big. So that’s what trans do. Probably why the strikeout record for the league was set last night for the 12th season in a row. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

You’re not proving my wrong at all. Analytics say shoot the 3 instead for a couple reasons. Mid range is still only 2 points and it’s a low percentage shot. Why shoot 30% from mid range when you can shoot 30% from 3? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

In today’s basketball game, you don’t need a mid range shot. Is it nice to have? Sure. Not many are great at it. You absolute best players like KD, Harden, Curry have it. But now even big men have went away from shooting mid range and went to the 3. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Because it is easier to shoot a 3 than to shoot mid range. Mid range is considered a high risk-low reward shot. Just one of the evolutions of basketball. I think Stan Van Gundy was one of the first who was huge about shooting only layups and 3’s. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
