IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
OGIUAndy replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/08/2021-nba-draft-pick-signings.html#:~:text=Second-round picks%2C meanwhile%2C,cap room or various exceptions. This story is a bit older, but I would assume it's very similar: https://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2018/05/10/in-the-money-second-round-picks-cash-in-guaranteed-contracts-at-exceedingly-high-rates/ And then just other articles covering this topic: https://therookiewire.usatoday.com/2020/11/29/xavier-tillman-memphis-grizzlies-rookie-contract/ https://franchisesports.co.uk/nba-rookie-contracts-explained/ -
Where is that being reported?

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
OGIUAndy replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I will not hate or boo Rob, but he would lose some of the Hoosier "status" he has built up within the program and with the fans, no doubt about that. And I really don't see him getting more playing time at PU than he would have gotten here, nor is PU guaranteed to be "great" or anything. So if he goes there it's more about "going home" which would be odd to me, but whatever, things are not like they used to be so I wouldn't be shocked, just disappointed. It's not like all of a sudden he's going to be great. Al and Armaan didn't just start lighting it up after they left. Rob's biggest problem is he can't stay healthy. If he could stay healthy he could have a better year. But he's not going to shoot 40% from three, score 15 pts a game or lead a team to the final four. If he had that ability, he would have shown that at IU at some point. He's shown he can have stretches of decent offense (manly driving to the basket) while playing solid defense, but unless one of these team is offering him 30 minutes a game (and he can stay healthy) I can't imagine we'd see much difference. Very few players switch teams and just become way better merely because of a change of scenario. -
They are paying his contract, so that isn't an issue. Don't forget everyone was/is ok trashing players based rumors, and they're kids for the most part, so I don't see the difference. I am not a huge fan of either btw. I liked Fife and was upset to hear about this. But I am also upset when people speculate that players are smoking weed, not knowing the full side of the story. And if people are siding with DD on this stuff, he's the worst of them all.
-
That being said, he isn't being forced to give details, or could keep it very basic nondescript "things didn't work out..." I don't recall him doing this often when it comes to firings/people quitting. So there is probably something to what he is reporting, not to say there isn't more to the story, there always is.
-
So the rumblings of Fife are negative? Please provide details. I am shocked at this situation, but apparently others are not. I would love to hear at least some of the rumblings.

IUFB Offseason/Transfer Portal News

If all of this true, then basically you're saying is CTA is not doing a good job. If he's literally losing coaches over the OL coach, that's a very bad look and he'll be hard press to keep a good OC. That being said, this isn't much different than every program. Most of these teams have some coach's son etc. on staff and you can't tell me they are the best coaches available. Football is the king of sports coaching nepotism. So I buy this is an issue, I don't buy Hiller being the main cause of the failures of the offense, especially this past season. -

I have to assume one on the challenges of being the DC at IU is that you have to be 100% aligned with Allen since he was the DC. -
Yeah, my reply was to a post that mentioned both. Sorry to derail.

Things that make you go hmmmm

I'm not comparing them to IU. I'd saying losing their first road game to Rutgers after being number one for like two days is not a great start to the BIG. They are very good. But that was a bad loss and they should have lost to NC State too. They also just gave up 90 points (54 in the second half) to Nichols. So anyone thinking they're going to roll through the BIG ten is mistaken. Don't get me wrong they are good and the favorites, but it'll be interesting to see what their record is when it's all said and done.
-
They had no business losing that game. That was a joke.
-
Basketball? They haven't done sh*t yet. Who cares what you're ranked in December. Currently they are 5th in the BIG.

My point is, you can't really judge James' success until he actually steps on the field. -

He didn't play this year though. -
And it definitely doesn't take an expert to know you're definitely not one. So I say we just see what happens (in a year) and go from there.
-
Good points, especially the 5 year gap, I didn't pay attention to that.
-
I don't think this is a bad idea myself.
-
Yeppers. Lot of experience, but probably not an exciting brand of offense and not a QB coach.
-
Another interesting candidate, although I think he likes to run: https://footballscoop.com/news/steve-addazio-will-not-return-colorado-state: https://footballscoop.com/news/steve-addazio-will-not-return-colorado-state

Exactly, through donor money, which was said to be non existent for football. I buy they are strapped for cash (both from lost revenues and less donor money coming in) I don't buy they can't get a reasonable paid OC. The pandemic hit all schools yet they all seem to be firing and hiring new coaches at the same pace as normal.
