  1. He's a very religious guy. I have had my fill of that and I think its benefit to a football program is short lived and extremely limiting. It was said CTA wasn't interested in hiring Justin Frye because he cussed too much. If true, that's ridiculous. We're talking about football here, not bible study. A coach or player's talent shouldn't be dismissed because they don't go to church. I'm not saying IU should hire a huge dirtbag either. I would be semi ok with ARE if he had a great staff. I loved him as a player. And if he and others with a direct connection to the program are the only interested candidates, so be it. But hiring ARE as the head guy would be a huge gamble that I am not sure IU can currently take the chance on. Just my two cents.
  2. Sorry, I just can't get on board with a guy who's never lead any sort of program. His staff better be amazing. I am also leery of a person who may not enjoy cussing from his assistant coaches if you catch my drift. I know that's a touchy subject on these boards, but it's just not my cup of tea when it comes to head coaches.
  3. And by obvious, I meant obviously he'd only been the head guy for a high school. His lack of running a bigger type of program shows in many ways. IU, no matter what they do or who they hire, CANNOT and will not go down that road again any time soon. If they do, we as fans should 100% not care at all anymore. This is a huge hire to get right. Not everyone has to agree with it 100% but it can't be a hire that 80% off the fans are not on board with.
  4. This ain't going to happen. Football has a lot more moving parts than say basketball to just throw the keys to a complete newbie. People mentioning him cannot really be serious. He has zero experience at anything necessary to run a program let alone being a head coach on Saturdays. Hell even CTA was a high school head coach which according to one recruit, was obvious by the lack of organization of IU's practices. This kinda stuff matters if you want to recruit and stay competitive. A name (and is he really a name?) will only get you so far.
  5. Coastal Carolina is listed as a "party school", so I don't think IU would be too shocking. But I assume he's got a bigger buyout than most candidates, so that might take him out of the running.
  6. Haven't really watched him much, but if he's half the player of Randolph...
  7. I don't think this is too far fetched. His "colorful" past is definitely going to hinder him from getting another high profile gig. I can't imagine he would ever get another NFL job. I don't have a clue how much you'd have to pay him, I would guess 8M+. He would be a huge buzz hire and definitely provide a boost in exposure for a couple of years. Does he want to recruit? He hasn't coached in college since 1991. He could get a great staff. He would definitely be on my initial list to gauge interest.
  8. I am not a huge college FB fan, so I am not surprised I didn't know.
  9. Personally if IU hired a guy like this, I would be happy. I want some buzz or a guy with a LOT of experience both calling plays and as a HC working his way up the ranks.
  10. I have no idea what "Hero Sports" is but interestingly enough they just published this: https://herosports.com/fbs-potential-power-five-landing-spots-jmu-dukes-head-coach-curt-cignetti-cpcp/ Also, I had no idea he already coached at Indiana! ;)
  11. Anyone who doesn't think this kind of stuff happens all the time is just in denial: "Don't tell me about it, because I don't want to believe it."
  12. I think the time might be now to bring in a guy with real coaching chops and who can build a great staff to shore up the program for 7-8 years. But I don't care either way, but this is a really, really, really important hire with the Big Ten expansion happening. Recruiting and NIL is going to be wild so I just want a guy people and players trust from the get go.
  13. What about Jerry Kill? He's now the head coach at New Mexico State, or Gary Patterson?
  14. Why not Fuente out of curiosity? From what I gathered he was basically handcuffed by the administration and ghosts of Beamer.
  15. Yeah, even without the hazing stuff, seemed like he had lost all of his steam there. I get that's a tough place to win much like IU, but that downward trajectory scares me a bit, like either he didn't change with the times or others figured out how to scheme against him. BIG Ten West is way easier to have some very good years with teams that are less than great.
  16. Seems like wherever Matt Canada goes, the wrath of fans soon follows.
  17. If this is true then things are even worse than imagined.
  18. Honestly, would you be comfortable with this hire based on what has transpired the last couple of seasons? He's never been a head coach, called plays, recruited or put together a coaching staff etc. This would be a huge gamble to say the least.
  19. There's no way to ignore these results. When Bill Lynch's last three years are better than yours, you know your time is coming to an end. UPDATE: and I was the first to give him a pass in 2021, that was an abnormally bad "break" year. But three seasons with 2 or fewer BIG wins is not good enough.
  20. I wonder what's being said amongst donors etc. There has to have been some sort of conversations. This was not what anyone had in mind with that over the top contract. Finding new and old ways to get beat the past couple seasons can't be overlooked by everyone involved. Once a majority of fans have stopped paying attention or are fed up, things start to get in motion. Despite the buyout, I cannot imagine he can keep his job unless he wins at least 3 more games.

  22. You know Indiana isn't exactly lacking in "country folk".
