We have not won a bowl game since '91. CTA has won three BIG games in three years, including yesterday's win. That's not good. I will say if he gets us to 5 or 6 wins he probably doesn't not get canned (especially 6). But let's be real honest, he hasn't shown us much as a head coach.

(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
OGIUAndy replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He looks skilled but very soft and physically weak. He's going to have to get a lot tougher and stronger to have above average succes in the BT. I like his shooting touch and he's very long, but he seems pretty weak at the basket. -

Agree with this. Conferences don't mean anything anymore. Sooner or later OSU and Michigan are going want to split the revenue, so eventually something will have to change. People joking around about IU getting "kicked out" of the Big Ten might not be that far off. -

Would he dare go to another Big Ten school? That would be really wild. I would he gets a call although his momentum at NW was slowing down. -

But this is all hypothetical and Gruden and Meyer are not coming to IU, even though at times I myself have brought them up to stir the pot. ARE would definitely be interested I am sure of it. He's definitely an IU guy. That being said, who else would be? That's the real question. For those promoting ARE, what about Justin Frye? He's the other IU guy supposedly being pushed. But ARE certainly wouldn't be worse than Allen. If you gave him a reasonable contract it could be a good flyer. However, most of the HC's in the Big Ten are very accomplished. Even "lower level" teams have very experienced coaches, at a program like IU you are already at a huge disadvantage and you hire a guy with no HC experience and only 4 years as an NFL assistant. That's a big reach. Then you you may have to fire one of your legends. Maybe it doesn't matter tbh. But it seems like ARE would be better served going to a place like Ball State or Bowling Green for a couple years or getting promoted to OC in the NFL then taking the IU job. Regardless, if IU hired ARE, I would support him even though it would reek of desperation. He's the greatest IUFB player ever (sorry AT). But comparing this situation to IUBB+Woody is a huge stretch. Woody was in the NBA for 25 years as both an assistant and head coach. Although I agree one doesn't need college coaching/recruiting experience, I think it's a huge plus if you've lead a program (as a coach) or at least called plays. When it's all said and done, it really comes down to who wants the job. It literally could be just a few dudes. I do get a kick out of all of this, so take no offense to any of my opinions. I just want some buzz and a reasonable amount of success. -

This is all great and stuff, but passion doesn't win you games, look at CTA. As for the rest ...guy that knows football -- offense, defense, special teams. Has an offensive philosophy. And a defensive philosophy. That lives and breaths the stuff I have no idea if ARE has any of this. And Whether he's put a practice together isn't dispositive -- the dude in line at Kilroy's can figure that out. So why did a recruit say that CTA's practices were a "sh*t show" if the dude in line at Kilroy's can figure it out? -

Take a look at his Twitter profile and his last retweet: https://twitter.com/therealrandleel?lang=en I am not against religion or faith it's just not my thing when it comes to sports. Mostly I just don't think he's done enough to be handed the reigns. -

He's a very religious guy. I have had my fill of that and I think its benefit to a football program is short lived and extremely limiting. It was said CTA wasn't interested in hiring Justin Frye because he cussed too much. If true, that's ridiculous. We're talking about football here, not bible study. A coach or player's talent shouldn't be dismissed because they don't go to church. I'm not saying IU should hire a huge dirtbag either. I would be semi ok with ARE if he had a great staff. I loved him as a player. And if he and others with a direct connection to the program are the only interested candidates, so be it. But hiring ARE as the head guy would be a huge gamble that I am not sure IU can currently take the chance on. Just my two cents. -

Sorry, I just can't get on board with a guy who's never lead any sort of program. His staff better be amazing. I am also leery of a person who may not enjoy cussing from his assistant coaches if you catch my drift. I know that's a touchy subject on these boards, but it's just not my cup of tea when it comes to head coaches. -

And by obvious, I meant obviously he'd only been the head guy for a high school. His lack of running a bigger type of program shows in many ways. IU, no matter what they do or who they hire, CANNOT and will not go down that road again any time soon. If they do, we as fans should 100% not care at all anymore. This is a huge hire to get right. Not everyone has to agree with it 100% but it can't be a hire that 80% off the fans are not on board with. -

This ain't going to happen. Football has a lot more moving parts than say basketball to just throw the keys to a complete newbie. People mentioning him cannot really be serious. He has zero experience at anything necessary to run a program let alone being a head coach on Saturdays. Hell even CTA was a high school head coach which according to one recruit, was obvious by the lack of organization of IU's practices. This kinda stuff matters if you want to recruit and stay competitive. A name (and is he really a name?) will only get you so far. -

Coastal Carolina is listed as a "party school", so I don't think IU would be too shocking. But I assume he's got a bigger buyout than most candidates, so that might take him out of the running. -

I don't think this is too far fetched. His "colorful" past is definitely going to hinder him from getting another high profile gig. I can't imagine he would ever get another NFL job. I don't have a clue how much you'd have to pay him, I would guess 8M+. He would be a huge buzz hire and definitely provide a boost in exposure for a couple of years. Does he want to recruit? He hasn't coached in college since 1991. He could get a great staff. He would definitely be on my initial list to gauge interest. -

I think the time might be now to bring in a guy with real coaching chops and who can build a great staff to shore up the program for 7-8 years. But I don't care either way, but this is a really, really, really important hire with the Big Ten expansion happening. Recruiting and NIL is going to be wild so I just want a guy people and players trust from the get go. -

Yeah, even without the hazing stuff, seemed like he had lost all of his steam there. I get that's a tough place to win much like IU, but that downward trajectory scares me a bit, like either he didn't change with the times or others figured out how to scheme against him. BIG Ten West is way easier to have some very good years with teams that are less than great. -
