Game Thread: Iowa at IU 2/7/21 Noon FOX

The Iowa players are actually doing cheer routines on the sideline. As Jack Lambert would say: Let's put skirts on 'em. LOL! -

That's three bunnies we've missed so far. It's hard to imagine a team missing more. -

A fellow named Harold Olsen coached at Ohio State (1922-46; damn -- that's a long time) and Northwestern (1950-52). I haven't found anyone else. -

That's easy -- Sharon "The Traitor" Versyp! ... Oh, I bet you were referring to men's programs. -
Pretty interesting interview with Matt Painter. Said growing up, his entire family was IU fanatics. He was, too. His dad went to Final Fours in '76, '81 and '87 -- and Matt went to the Superdome, too. He said he really wanted to go to IU, and Knight recruited him, but never offered a scholly. Said he'd have been happy just to sit at the end of the bench (and with the Grahams, Chris Reynolds, Damon Bailey, Jamal Meeks, Lyndon Jones -- that's right where he would have been). ... Painter was good friends with Pat Knight growing up.

Kind of a nice little story about Peyton Ramsey. He talks about his time in Bloomington, his relationship with his former teammates and the chance (very remote) that NW could've played us in the B1G title game. Says he was disappointed that Penix got the gig over him in 2019, but understood the decision. And since he was able to graduate and transfer without sitting out the 2020 season, he figured it was time to move on ... https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/former-iu-quarterback-peyton-ramsey-didnt-want-to-see-his-former-program-in-big-ten-title-game/?fbclid=IwAR1EWUUIF0agvbMcCmyENTJTBKieiolLfZ-EM4zUWueCdtLpqLVJepXG9HY

At first glance, this is pretty complete. But you forgot a couple that are crucial -- although these are more conducive to after the game. Miss 10 or more FTs Make fewer than five 3s -

Of all the "IU" candidates, he's the only one I'd (very grudgingly) be OK with. Not interested in Alford, Woodson, Wittman or Isiah. My huge concerns with him: 1) He was very underwhelming as a head coach at Fort Wayne -- granted he was very young, so I'm willing to give him a pass for that (barely). 2) Izzo assistants haven't exactly lit the world on fire. We should know; we had one. And I can't help but wonder with as long as he's been on staff there (presumably he's the lead assistant), why he hasn't gotten a second go-round yet as a HC? I worry that with him, we'd be just getting an Archie with IU ties, but without the resume. -
Godspeed, Marty. Hope you're comfortable and surrounded by loved ones as you enter your final days. He's gotta be on the short list of best coaches to never have reached the Super Bowl. He came to Virginia Beach to coach in the short-lived United Football League a few years back and did win the league title. Wasn't the championship he wanted, but I hope he took some satisfaction in winning it. A helluva football coach. One more thing: F--k you, Alzheimer's.

I think I actually bought an "It's Miller's Time" T-shirt or something right after he was hired. I also bought a Crean & Crimson shirt when the previous administration took over. Needless to say, if at some point we move on from Archie -- I will not be buying a shirt celebrating the new coach ... -

I'm sorta the same way. I might still be at the hair thread -- but it's coming perilously close to breaking. I was wanting it to work, but I just don't see how it can. We're 9-8 right now. If we finish with a losing record, I hope the change is made after this season -- rather than waiting a year as many have speculated. COVID or not, a losing record in your fourth season is a signal that it's time to cut bait. I've been watching Hoosiers basketball for 40 years or so -- not as long as you, however -- and I can't ever recall IU teams looking so disinterested. -

Much disappointment to go around, but to me, plenty falls on Jerome. To go through what he went through after all his health issues to get back and be able to play -- only to (supposedly) break team rules just shows incredible immaturity. Not sure exactly what he did (speculation is pot or being late to practice) but he's the only regular who was a DNP-Coach's decision. Yes, I realize he's still just a kid who made a mistake, but still ... very disappointing. Could've used him last night. -

At this point, I cannot imagine Archie is happy -- with IU's performance, with his performance, with the perception of him now as opposed to after his final year at Dayton. I highly doubt it, but I wonder if there's any chance he just goes to Dolson after the season and says, "Four years ago, I thought this was a great fit. But clearly, it's not. This isn't working for me, and it isn't working for the university. Let's just part ways amicably, come up with a little settlement -- and I'll be on my way, in search of a better fit for me. And the school can find a better fit as well." I think that's pretty much what happened with Mike Davis. -

No I'm not acting as if Alford assaulted her. You're acting as if defending and enabling a sexual abuser is fine. It's not. He shouldn't have defended him before or after any facts came out. Period. And he definitely shouldn't have CALLED HER INTO HIS OFFICE AND TRIED TO SHUT HER UP. I've read a lot of asinine things on this board, but this is No. 1. I am done with you on this subject. You are disgusting. -

You are absolutely disgusting for suggesting that a sexual-assault victim has just "moved on" because 20 years have passed. -

He said he was wrong only after he said he was right about a dozen times -- and only when the UCLA fan base and media pushed him on it. And it was a half-hearted apology at that. And you're wrong -- not everyone but IU fans have moved on from it. Do you think the first lady Pierre Pierce attacked has moved on? Do you think she's OK with the fact that Alford called her to meet with him, then tried to get her to keep quiet. Or do you think the second woman Pierce attacked has moved on? Your defense of what Alford did is absolutely disgusting. -

Alford defended a rapist. And that rapist then attacked another woman. Indiana's basketball program hasn't had that happen at all in the past 25 years.
