  1. Yep. Even if he were to win a NCAA title at Nevada, I just can't get past that Pierre Pierce situation. And Alford just continually doubled down on how he handled it until he got to UCLA -- when he issued a very faint, insincere sort-of apology.
  2. I'm not sold on a guy who is 15 games under .500 in his one head coaching gig.
  3. One thing about Matta -- the last I saw, Wichita State had him on their radar for next season. But if we're looking for a coach after next season (barring a winless finish or some other disaster, I think Archie gets at least another year) and Matta has taken the WSU job, I would think even though it might not be the greatest of optics, if we wanted him, he'd come -- even after one season. Who remembers that Huggy Bear bolted Kansas State after a season? All that said, I'm not fully on the "Fire Archie" bandwagon yet -- but I'm getting closer.
  4. Interesting list. The one that threw me a bit was Brad Brownell. He's from Indiana and played alongside Calbert at Evansville Harrison, so props to him for that (LOL) -- but I don't think he's really distinguished himself at Clemson. At least not enough to be considered a No. 4 candidate for the Kentucky gig (if they did it in order of preference).
  5. Was reminded of this while watching a couple minutes of PU-PSU: Patrick Chambers is available ...
  6. Yikes. I'm not necessarily a Pacers fan (though they probably are my No. 2 team), but this isn't good news. For one, I hope the young man will be OK. For two, I wonder if there's any chance that trade can be voided?
  7. I still think if OSU had made the move on Matta a little quicker -- about the time we parted ways with Crean -- Archie would've been offered, and taken, that gig.
  8. Puck Furdue! How's that?
  9. I kinda think that way, too -- especially when you consider that a couple weeks after he accepted the UNLV job and had gone through the hoopla of the introductory news conference and all that, Texas Tech came calling. And he said See ya, Las Vegas. I laughed when I read a story about that whole ordeal. The Texas Tech AD called the Vegas AD, who said, "No, you can't talk to him. We just hired him." The Texas Tech AD then said, "I was just giving you a courtesy call. We're gonna talk to him anyway."
  10. The coach who was running the program when the killing took place is a real scumbag -- Dave Bliss. His involvement in that whole ordeal is nothing short of disgustingly deplorable. He's also a former RMK assistant -- and was at IU from 1971-75.
  11. I remember at work a few years back, Wichita State (Gregg Marshall) played Dayton (Archie) in the first round of the NCAAs. We had just fired Crean. I joked to a co-worker that the winner would get the IU job. Turns out, we hired the losing coach. Since I have no co-workers around anymore (work at home due to the pandemic), I'll throw this out there: Baylor (Scott Drew) vs. Texas Tech (Chris Beard) -- winner gets the IU gig. LOL!
  12. U of Maryland and Jordan McNair's family settled ...
  13. I think so, too. ... But I also think is essential for the coach to have a relationship with his players. Sometimes I wonder if Archie does. If you're getting your a$$ chewed out, it's easier coming from a guy who can also show compassion and that you can sit down and talk with, etc. I have no idea how he is with his players, but I can't help but think he sees them at practice, at meetings and at games -- and that's it. I wonder if he has the guys out to his house for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner -- or to just gather on an off night and watch a ballgame. I think kids can handle discipline, but they also want to know that you're interested in them and give a crap about them. I'm not sure Archie puts off that kind of vibe at all.
  14. Perhaps I misinterpreted what you were saying (writing) ... My bad ... Have a good one.
  15. Pretty much knew that ... but thanks.
  16. I have to admit -- if true, this worries me as well. I believe a poster wrote they knew someone who worked with Phin and Armaan, and they've said Archie is a d-ck. I would guess not a lot of guys liked Knight when playing for him, but for one, he won; for two, that was a whole different era. Sometimes when I watch TJD, he just doesn't seem as if he's enjoys playing basketball, and I wonder why. His demeanor -- at least to me -- is decidedly different than last season. Makes me wonder if he's not happy playing for Archie. And not while we weren't getting every recruit, we were doing OK. Now, we're swinging and missing a lot. I'm not accusing the players of sabotaging Archie's efforts, but after all those misses, I can't help but consider the possibility that they're telling the recruits that playing there isn't the experience they thought it would be. It seemed most thought Kaufman was coming, then he does an about face and picks PU -- and on the surface, Matt Painter seems like a guy for whom kids would want to play. Do they want to play for Archie? Who knows ...
  17. Three words on Calipari: No. Noer. Noest. Since he has his national title, he has no interest in Final Fours or banners. His only goal is to get guys to the pros.
  18. BTW, if anybody's interested and is up late: Fresno State vs. Nevada, featuring our next coach -- Steve Alford -- is on FoxSports1. Wolf Pack up 16-12 early.
  19. I'll throw out a name -- and it's just as wacko of an idea as some I've seen here: Thad Matta. When healthy, he was one of the best in the business. I don't know exactly what went wrong at OSU, but from what I gather, his health issues (back trouble, I think) limited what he was able to do recruiting -- so he was no longer getting the good players he used to. There's a very good chance I could be wrong on that, but I'm not positive. And I believe at one time (either while at Butler or Xavier), he said his dream job was to coach at IU. If he's healthy, he might be worth considering. He's 53, so he's not ancient -- and would think he has a good bit left in the tank.
  20. Billy Donovan is in the first of a four-year contract with the Bulls. He hasn't coached college ball since 2015. He no longer has to go into the homes of 15- and 16- and 17-year-old prima donnas and beg them to come play for him. I suspect he's done with college. I would guess the same is true of Stevens.
  21. More like every 2-3 days. It just become its own thread last night.
  22. Apparently, this is a PU athletic department creation. And while they deserve to gloat, it seems a little cheap to me. I'd suggest that Archie show it to the boys before the rematch at Mackey, but I'm not sure any of them give a crap. I'm not sure if you told them before a game it would be the very last time they ever played basketball, they'd show any more fire than we've seen. This is a dead-a$$ group. And by showing fire, I don't mean screaming after making a massive dunk -- then missing your next six shots.
  23. If/when Stevens parts ways with the Celts, chances are he'll just go to another NBA team.
  24. I really, really wonder what Tony Bennett would've said years ago when we approached him had we not parted ways with his sister on what can probably be described as unfriendly terms.
  25. This thread has gotten just plain stupid. G'night, all.
