Please don't think this is political -- or let it start a rash of political comments. I just saw this and thought it was too funny to not post ...

General Coach Candidate News

I sorta am. But my support is waning. A big reason I say this -- and I'm guessing it's not really an apt comparison -- is I live in Virginia, and on the surface, Tony Bennett's and Archie's philosophies seemed somewhat similar. And it took Bennett a while to get things rolling. But once he did ... There are some things that don't cross over, though -- Bennett continued to do relatively well in recruiting and he seemed to have a really good relationship with his players, while I'm not sure that's the case with Archie. And although the Cavs weren't knocking everyone's socks off, the eyeball test said they were getting better and making strides. I'm struggling to see that here ... BTW, forget Brooks or Kaufman or Garcia or Garland or Watford. IMO -- and this falls on Crean -- our biggest recruiting miss in the past 5-6 years has been Kyle Guy. -

Let me preface this by saying I realize this has a 0.00 percent chance of happening, because apparently, we tried it once and were rebuffed. Also, I'd guess a decent percentage of folks on this board would disagree with me, but if I could have my pick of whom I want to coach IU ... Not Brad Stevens. Not Billy Donovan. Not Chris Beard. Not Scott Drew. Not Steve Alford. Not even Mike Krzyzewski. I'd go with Tony Bennett -- 100 percent, hands down, he'd be my choice. I still think the alleged rationale of him not wanting to exist in the fish bowl that is IU is BS. I think he was pissed because we parted ways with his sister. He is pretty low-key, but he seems very comfortable in his own skin. He's very well spoken -- I think he'd be great at pressing the flesh and speaking to crowds. He's obviously very bright. He seems to have a great relationship with his players. He's very committed to his faith. I think all these qualities fit right in perfectly at IU. I've lived in Virginia for 20 years, so have had a pretty good glimpse of his teams -- and I love the way they play. Plus, he kept the Toiletmakers from the Final Four! The only thing I wonder: What in the hell would've happened had we been a 1 seed and lost to a 16 in the NCAAs! -

Someone wrote -- maybe it was you, I don't recall for sure -- asking unless Alford went to IU, would we have any interest in him based on his coaching achievements? I think the answer would be a pretty obvious no. -
No. 3 Villanova escapes against Seton Hall -- 76-74. Crazy finish. Nova hits a FT with 1.9 seconds to play to go up 75-74. After the made FT, Seton Hall inbounded the ball 75 feet to its big man, who got behind the defense in the lane with nothing between him and the basket -- and the pass bounced off his hands and went out of bounds with 1.6 to play. Seton Hall fouls. 'Nova makes one FT to go up 76-74. On the ensuing inbounds pass, the aforementioned Seton Hall big man gets the ball just outside the 3-point line, but tosses up an airball under heavy duress -- 'Nova hangs on. It was their first game since Dec. 23.
