If that's true, the best case would be for the NCAA to decline his waiver and make him sit -- as it should IMO. That way, we could wash our hands of it and say it wasn't our decision.

Sad, but it had to happen. Javy, KB and Rizzo could've all walked at the end of the season. Probably would have, too. Well, maybe Rizzo would have considered re-signing, but I think his best days are in the rearview mirror. And without all those guys, Kimbrel would've had nothing to save. ... Might as well get what you can while you can. I'm just still flummoxed as to why the Ricketts cried poor after last season -- and began the fire sale by dumping Darvish. Every team's owner lost a truckload of revenue last season.

Of all those guys, Kimbrel should return the biggest haul. Baez and Bryant would be rentals, while Kimbrel would be under control of his new team through next season.

So long, Rizz -- you were a helluva Cub. Even though he helped us end that blasted curse -- he probably did more off the field for the franchise and community than on. Hope you enjoy that short right-field porch in Yankee Stadium.

His high school is about 15 miles from where I live. They actually played in the spring. Won the state title. Except for a 7-point win in the state semifinals, they beat the snot out of everyone they played -- by at least six TDs each.

Kinda weird: I totally understood why Arizona State would poach Tracy Smith, but had no friggin' clue why Mississippi State would've been interested in Lemonis. Shows what I know!

I can't remember where we had left off with Larry Brown and IU -- if they ever had defined or had a role for him, whether it was as a consultant, off-court assistant, whatever. It's a moot point now ...
