Dane, if you're gonna stick with a tie on the bench, you need to ditch that old green thing. Here are some options ... -
Dane Fife returns HOME to Join Mike Woodsons staff

IU just posted a press release on its website. This is from his bio ... did not know he had a graduate degree. He owns two degrees from Indiana, earning a bachelor's degree in recreation (2002) and a master's degree in athletic administration (2005). -

Was Fife-Lews an either/or thing -- or is there a chance we still still get both? -
It's inevitable to want to compare the 1976 Hoosiers to this season's Gonzaga squad. But if you think the '76 Hoosiers could give the Zags a game, you're kidding yourselves. Quinn Bucker, Scott May, Kent Benson -- all those dudes are pushing 70. Bobby Wilkerson was a fantastic defender, but at 66, I just don't think he could keep up with Jalen Suggs. Hoosiers would keep it close for a few seconds, but the Zags would pull away fairly quickly.

I'm not far behind you in age (52) and grew up very near Chicago, so remember those White Sox well (though I'm partial to the Northsiders). And Kittle is from Gary (where I was born, though I grew up one city over), so I always was a fan. Funny story about him. I lived in Minnesota for a few years in the '90s. Kitty was managing an independent pro team from Schaumberg. They played in the Northern League (back then, it was considered to be about the equivalent to Class A ball; not sure what it is now). Anyway, the Flyers were in Duluth for a series and lost a game in which they played very poorly and made some dumb mistakes. After the game, Kittle marched his players down to the left-field line and made them run sprints across the outfield. This was professional baseball -- not college or high school. I had never seen that before -- thought it was pretty humorous.

I usually think these polls are a bit silly, but the Hoosiers check in at No. 7, so it can't be too silly, right? https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31184173/women-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-uconn-reigns-south-carolina-looms -

I would guess a news release when it's all certain -- then a presser later, when the relevant folks are in Bloomington. -
Where's his tweet extolling the virtues of Tim Priller??? Or Peter Jurkin -- hell, that guy couldn't run and dribble a basketball at the same time. I'm not sure he could even dribble a basketball standing still.

From what I've read/seen/understand, Lewis might be more offensive minded, while Fife more defensive minded. Does that seem correct? -
No foul here!

I think Race is supposed to meet with Minnesota via Zoom tomorrow.

Heckuva game. I might be in the minority, but I'd rather see an ending like Duke-Kentucky (Laettner) or Villanova-UNC (Jenkins), where it was a great basketball play -- not a lucky 40-foot heave.

Only good thing about the way that game ended: Michael Lewis can now come home!

So can any other college basketball team.

I would think Lewis would make more sense for Texas Tech than Fife. Lewis was a grad assistant there under RMK. ... But I wonder if they'd hire a P5 assistant who's never been a head coach? -

Like many here, I'm wondering if CMW not rounding his staff just yet means he's holding out hope for Michael Lewis, who will be finished with his season one way or another in a couple days. But with Moser leaving Loyola for Oklahoma, is it possible the Ramblers would go after Lewis? He's got Midwest ties and is an established recruiter and coach in the region. Plus, that seems as if it wouldn't be a bad choice for your first head coaching gig. I've seen nothing speculating on whom Loyola might seek -- but DePaul just hired a top Pac-12 assistant. I guess if Loyola does have any interest -- and I have no indication they do; it just seems as if it might make sense -- Michael would have to weigh finally getting his own program vs. coaching at IU w/ the possibility of taking over when Woody is done. If in fact, that is a possibility. -
Wow, Arizona is gonna beat the Genos. Now, I can't help but think: Coulda that been us? They weren't that much better than us -- just hit some 3s while we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Can you imagine playing against Stanford and Tara VanDerveer -- a former Hoosier -- for the national title! Oh, what might have been ...

Actually, such a thread exists ... https://btownbanners.com/topic/12872-assistant-coaching-thread/?page=25&tab=comments#comment-651626 -
After we crushed Ol' Roy's boys in the 2012 B1G/ACC Challenge, he talked about missing out on Cody, who dropped 20 on the Heels. "We recruited the dickens out of that kid," he said. I always felt bad for Cody -- having to go through the rest of his life with no dickens.

Absolutely loved this quote from TJD about Woody. "I sat down with him, and we talked a little bit. And I really liked him. But my parents were still dead-set on me going to the NBA. So I said, 'How 'bout you coming down, Dad, and give him a chance and see what he has to say?' So that's what we did. We had a two-hour conversation. And then my dad came out of the room. He said 'Give us five minutes.' So we left Coach Woodson's office and went into a little meeting room and he said, 'You're staying.' " Not sure, but I would imagine TJD's family is doing OK -- so it was sorta surprising they were adamant that he turn pro.
