  1. Would a college coaching hire normally have to pass a physical -- or was it in this case a condition of his employment? Or would that even be legal? Not trying to dispute your info, I just have no idea how this works? And if he was offered, I would assume that means he was interested?
  2. I'm not sure if anybody knows what Dolson is doing. Maybe they do, maybe not. But if we are indeed hiring Mike Woodson -- to me, it's a very uninspiring hire. I was skeptical of Stevens coming and thought Beard was a long shot, but I would've been OK with Beilein or Matta (if healthy). But apparently Matta isn't interested? Anyway, I should also say I thought Moren and Allen were uninspiring hires -- so I've been wrong before (lots of times).
  3. Sources tell me the search is over. We have found our new couch -- it's on its way to B-town. Presser at 1 tomorrow.
  4. Oladipo is supposed to get traded. Other than that, I can't think if anything that would have any affect on IU basketball.
  5. But it would unite the fan base! LOL ... What nobody considers is what difference does it make if the fan base is united behind a guy if he can't win. What if we hired Calbert -- who has never been a head coach at any level -- and he goes 11-21 in his first season and 13-20 in his second? How united will the fan base be at that point?
  6. No offense to Ms. Hammon, but methinks we're just getting a bit silly now. IMO, there are enough threads to follow as it is. I think we should keep threads for realistic candidates to coach IU basketball. This is just not realistic. There is absolutely nothing out there -- nothing -- indicating she's a candidate to coach at IU.
  7. I would guess if this is the rout they might choose, Woodson and Lewis might be more realistic. I don't think Fife would come back to be an assistant for another 4-5 years.
  8. BTW, everybody seemed to think Lander's tweet had to do with the possible naming of a new coach. Has anybody entertained the possibility that it could be a portend to his entering the portal?
  9. One thing to remember: Those two are established at their institutions. Hamilton has been at FSU for 19 seasons. Boeheim has been at Syracuse since Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain ... I try not to have an age bias, but starting at a school when you're 63 or 68 is a tad concerning. At least it is in my opinion. That said, If we hired Beilein or Woodson, I'd still watch games and support team. That won't stop.
  10. Woj said there was no way Stevens would go back to coach in college and that if he parted ways with the Celtics, he definitely would go to another NBA team. He said there really is no comparison to coaching in the NBA vs. college -- and that maybe top NBA assistants would consider college jobs if they thought they couldn't get a No. 1 NBA gig, but a head coach wouldn't. He added that Donovan parted ways with OKC and got snatched up by the Bulls right away -- never even gave a return to college a thought. He basically said what many here thought before all the "Stevens to IU" talked heated up. It's just not gonna happen. Or at least it's very, very, very unlikely.
  11. He's getting $10M depending on future employment. If you fire him in March, he stands a good chance of landing another job that will mitigate that buyout. He might take next year off regardless, but if you fire him in June, his chances of landing another job decrease significantly.
  12. Not sure that was the line of thinking. I think the line of thinking was that Archie had been here for four years and underperformed. I think the way we finished the season -- losing six in a row and showing no heart -- sealed it. I don't necessarily think we fired Archie because we thought we could get Stevens. I think we fired him because he was doing a very poor job.
  13. If you do that, you leave Archie twisting in the wind till June. People might not like him, but you want to treat him fairly. Or what happens in June if Stevens changes his mind or says no? That would be an absolute mess.
  14. Or what would be the reaction of we hired Alford and he was a miserable failure? Would DD turn on Alford, or would he find someone else to blame?
  15. Dakich is on the Dan Patrick Show prattling on that Alford should get the gig. Says he's against hiring the "hot" guy -- a-la Sampson, Crean, MIller. I know Alford is his buddy, but he's been very unremarkable as a coach. If he didn't play at IU, he wouldn't even be mentioned. Why do people like Dakich think Alford coming to Bloomington would all the sudden make him a great coach? That puzzles me to no end. Dakich also said he called Glass after he hired Archie and told him he just made a huge mistake.
  16. He kept insisting he did nothing wrong, then when he was hired at UCLA, issued a half-assed "apology" -- but only because he was getting hammered about it. ... At least that's my recollection of it.
  17. Forget Altman -- this has to be Wayne Tinkle!!!
  18. Had a Zoom meeting for work. While I was on it ... We hired Thad Matta, but he didn't pass the physical. We didn't hire Thad Matta, and he didn't fail a physical. Thad Matta had no interest in the first place. My head is spinning ...
  19. Alford Woodson Fife/Lewis (tie) Smart Cheaney It really pains me to rank Alford No. 1 -- because I think he's a sleazeball -- but he's really the only option with some college head coaching chops. Cal is my favorite all-time player (he was at IU when I was there), but it seems that I've read from one of our insiders -- think it was Chris007 -- that he has no interest in being a head coach, and in fact, he doesn't even have any interest in being a college assistant. And I wouldn't want someone who's heart wasn't in it. I also wouldn't want him to tarnish his legacy. If someone put a gun to my head and said we HAD to hire an "IU guy," -- I think my preference might be Woody as lead with Lewis as top assistant with the thought that Michael would take over in a few years.
  20. Wow -- both Penn State and Minnesota hire top assistants, instead of head coaches. Interesting. I thought Brian Dutcher would be a natural fit at the Barn. Guess they wanted someone younger -- and apparently, a locak guy.
