  1. Because I remember the Billy Donovan runaway train four years ago, I'm not getting my hopes up too much -- only because I don't want to be disappointed. Although TBH, I didn't think there was a lot of truth to that BD rumor anyway. But if -- and to me, it's still a big if -- this Sevens thing is true, I'm very curious as to how it will work ... Does he resign from the Celts and head to B-town in a matter of days? Does he accept Dolson's offer, then attempt to finish out the NBA season? Or try to finish the season? Would Danny Ainge pull a Bo Schembechler and say, "I want the Celtics to be coached by a Celtics man" and tell him to hit the bricks? If he does try to finish out the season, he would have to assemble a staff to take care of things at IU until he arrives, correct? If so, can we have faith he'll be focused enough on us to put in enough due diligence to put together a solid staff? What if he does take the job, then finishes out the season in Boston -- and the Celts go on a deep playoff run. Does he get cold feet? If there's a good chance this will happen, we won't be waiting till May or June to find out he's officially our man, will we? That just seems implausible. I believe when Pitino left Beantown for Louisville, he resigned immediately -- didn't finish the season.
  2. This, to me, has the feeling of four years ago when the Billy Donovon runaway train derailed on this site. Hope I'm wrong ... Too many unanswered questions about Stevens. I'm betting on Belien, who stays for 5-6 years and gets us back in business -- with maybe a B1G title or two and a decent couple of NCAA tourney runs. Then, when the job comes open again, we'll be much more attractive. Or perhaps he's set up with an assistant who can take over in a few years -- maybe a Michael Lewis-type. I still just have difficult time believing Stevens will come back. And if he does -- I'll be elated. But if he doesn't -- I'll be prepared.
  3. No idea. ... This fellow was just saying the article reflected what the administration wanted. Instead, it reflected what the writer wanted in the next coach.
  4. Keith Smart allegedly checks all the boxes the writer of that article wants -- and it's a very arbitrary set of boxes. It really didn't have anything to do with what the administration wants.
  5. You weren't out there with a "Welcome home, Coach Beard" sign?
  6. To this day, I cannot hear The Cars' "Moving In Stereo" without thinking of the lovely Phoebe.
  7. Goodman knows far more than I, but I'm not sure I agree here. Why couldn't a coach walk away? Pitino resigned from the Celtics to take the Lousiville job -- in whatever year that was. Not saying Stevens will walk away in the middle of the season, but I don't see why he couldn't if that's what he desired.
  8. It's easy to read too much into something like this -- but let's face it, that's what we all do -- but if TJD truly plans to wait and see whom IU hires, it makes you wonder if his relationship with Archie wasn't fractured? Because if his intention all along was to leave after two seasons, and then his coach is fired, it seems as if it would be a slam dunk to bolt.
  9. I missed the news that Iowa State had fired Steve Prohm -- but after a 2-22 season (0-18 in the Big 12), that's hardly surprising. He has a $5 million buyout, while the athletic department is facing a $25 million shortfall thanks to COVID. When addressing how the school is able to pay the buyout, this is what the AD said: “Something I've heard out there, that there (was) a donor or were donors who stepped up and said ‘we’ll pay the buyout,’ that did not happen,” Jamie Pollard said. “I don't want that to ever happen at Iowa State. I think that sends a horrible message about how the program is led and managed.” Hmmm ... a not-so-subtle jab at IU and Scott Dolson?
  10. As someone who's grown more follicly challenged over the years -- and even when I wasn't -- I've always been extremely jealous of that dude. He has some serious lettuce ...
  11. Dolson did say in his presser yesterday that after he has the coach in place, he didn't want to micromanage the program. I guess what that means is open to interpretation. I would hope whoever is selected -- even if it's that Celtics guy -- he'd entertain the thought of having someone on staff with IU ties. Sorta like Archie did with Mike Roberts.
  12. I get people not wanting Beilein. There are a lot of concerns -- I'd have many myself. But those who are absolutely against Beilein -- that's how I feel about Scott Drew. Not that I have any say in it (well, none of us do for that matter), but I just cannot get on board with a Scott Drew hire. He's actually from very close to where I grew up, but I just don't care for the guy. Just seems sorta sleazy. I would not be thrilled with a Drew hire, but I'd still follow the team and still be passionate about IU hoops. But I'd also be praying like crazy that he doesn't land us in hot water with the NCAA -- because as we all know, our compliance team will go after our coaches harder than the NCAA ever will!
  13. Wonder if Stevens is getting texts from Dolson, saying: I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT YOU!
  14. Count me as a skeptic to Stevens coming to IU. But that won't keep me from keeping from longing for it until Dolson announces that he's hired a coach. If there's any tracks to this Stevens talk -- if -- is it wise to wait until June to name a head coach? Dolson claimed we won't see him until he's ready to announce that he's hired a coach. Would he really hide out until June???
  15. The thing that flummoxed me was he said even Brad Stevens wouldn't check the last two boxes on his arbitrary list. The last two were RMK's approval and approval of former IU players. If IU were to hire Stevens (admittedly, a long shot), I would think both RMK and former IU players would be fully on board.
  16. I run hot and cold on Beilein. Some days, I think he'd be a good get and others, I worry we'd just end up with what Minnesota got in Tubby Smith.
  17. Bears fans (I am one) were swinging for the fences and hoping to somehow get Russell Wilson. Instead ... Andy Dalton. I'm hoping that as IU fans, our swing for the fences (Brad Stevens) doesn't result in a three-pitch strikeout like this one!
  18. Or trying to keep him in Boston till Coach K. retires and then push him toward Durham.
  19. Just out of curiosity, why? Beilein took WVU to an Elite Eight and Michigan to two NCAA title games. Hamilton has done nothing of the like.
  20. Didn't work out OK for Bill Frieder, which was my point -- that's why all anybody will get is a flood of denials until IU officially hires a coach.
  21. BTW, I'm not saying anything anybody here doesn't already know, but until IU issues a release saying who our next coach is -- or unless someone like Goodman breaks it a couple hours before that release is put out -- we're gonna be hearing a lot about a river in Egypt. Denial. Denial. Denial. Nobody currently coaching will fess up to having interest in this opening. Remember before the NCAAs in 1989, when Bill Frieder said he would coach Michigan through the tourney, then leave for Arizona State? Bo Schembechler: "Hey Bill, whaddya say you and I have a little chat ... "
  22. Died last year, so he's not up to much.
  23. This, from the Alabama coach, denying interest in any other job than the one he currently has. Once you go third person, in my book -- you're out! “To be honest with you, I don’t even know if anybody’s reached out to my agent because my agent knows what my thought is,” Oats said. “If they have, he’s probably told them thanks but no thanks and I’m locked into coaching this team. It really doesn’t matter what the media wants to bring up as far as what jobs may make sense for Nate Oats. “Nate Oats and his family know what jobs make sense for him, and we love being at Alabama right now and we’ve got a special thing going. We’re coaching our team and trying to get as many wins out of this deal here in Indy as we can possibly get.”
  24. Advocates for IU to hire a former Knight player. Who, Jay? Please, for the love of God, tell us which former IU player is capable of taking over the program? There is no one. On this one, Bilas is simply being a tool.
  25. This is what is comical about "the media" these days. Anyone and everyone can be "the media." And it's why it cracks me up when everyone bashes "the media." This story screams this headline: REPORT: BRAD STEVENS NOT LEAVING BOSTON CELTICS FOR INDIANA HOOSIERS. But upon further review (reading the article), it's one "reporter" quoting another "reporter." And reporter No. 2 says he just doesn't see it happening. Yep, that's pretty concrete -- definitely deserving of such a headline. I want one someone here -- maybe I'll do it myself -- write a blog saying "I think Brad Stevens should consider IU's offer if it makes one." Then someone could pick up on that and write a screaming headline: REPORT: STEVENS CONSIDERING IU'S OFFER. It's all such B.S. https://247sports.com/Article/Brad-Stevens-Indiana-Hoosiers-not-leaving-Boston-Celtics-Archie-Miller-fired-college-basketball-NBA-162465697/?fbclid=IwAR2cB85BL3kCyuRvh8GeaNcv5yveev7mjLv2SjdWz2zpYpc8IYMnSyq-NHo
