Has nothing to do with Archie or IU hoops, but I won't be the first -- or last -- person to get off topic ... I saw Tom & The Heartbreakers at Wrigley Field nearly four years ago in what turned out to be their final tour. One helluva show! Just a few months later, he was gone. Still bums me out.

Folks just need to relax. Penn State about to hire a new coach has nothing to do with us. Dolson wasn't my No. 1 choice as AD (I liked Chris Reynolds), but I think even he realizes the situation is untenable. Just because he didn't march into the locker room after the Rutgers loss and fire Archie doesn't mean he's not gonna get this done.

Jim Nance just referred to Illinois as "IU." C'mon, Jim -- you're better than that! And these days, as far as basketball programs go -- calling Illinois "IU" is an insult to the Illini!

I'm with you on that -- just don't care for him. ... I obviously have no clue what Dolson thinks, but it just doesn't seem as if he'd hire a guy like Drew. I've been wrong many, many times, though.

Pretty soon, this is gonna get leaked: Wayne Tinkle will become IU's next coach. After winning that Pac-12 title, there's no stopping him.

Seems as if his name has been bandied about for the top job at places like BC and Penn State. I would guess next season, he'd be running his own program somewhere.

Sheehey had fire and intensity -- until his buddies Jordy, Vic, Cody and C-Wat either went pro or graduated. When he was a senior and those guys were gone and he had to lead, he didn't seem to show much fire or passion.

I'm not sure IU fans make him out to be immoral, but he committed infractions at Oklahoma and was told to knock that crap off when he got to IU. But instead, he continued and landed the program in a sh-t heap of trouble. Plus, he recruited some pretty questionable dudes to B-town. But I will agree with you on this -- "I wish we had him back honestly." ... If he did things honestly, we likely wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

Not bashing anybody, but I've always found it hugely ironic that at the top of Kelvin Sampson's list of achievements is a trip to the Final Four. Where he lost to ... Mike Davis.

Internet buzz (which is never wrong) has Brian Dutcher going to Gopherland. He took over at San Diego State after being Steve Fisher's longtime right-hand man there and at Michigan. And of course, his pop coached for years at The Barn.

I was there about that time -- 86-91 (I was on the five-year plan). Got to see the transition from Alford to Edwards to Cheaney. I'm not an Archie hater, but I do think it's time for a change. Having been there when I was, it's amazing to me to think there could be empty seats at a B1G game (as there have been during Archie's tenure -- even before the pandemic). Man, I remember a handful of games sitting up in the balcony a mile from the court -- and loving every minute of it.
