  1. Funny thing is -- had we corralled that ball at the 1 or 2, they'd have moved it back to the 6. But since we didn't control it, it's a touchback.
  2. Good Lord. Somebody just grab the damn ball. We just gave Sparty 20 yards.
  3. Jeez -- are we allergic to the end zone!
  4. Tuttle had been looking sharp -- until that last pass. Maybe we should try running the ball a bit.
  5. Not here to debate whether we've grown too soft or are too PC or whether Jon Gruden's emails should be kept private. But give a listen to Chargers coach Brandon Staley. He gets it.
  6. What a terrible ending to a great game. Got no dog in this fight, so I didn't care who won, but that dude did NOT swing.
  7. You mean Scotty Pods? LOL! When I'd visit my parents and he was playing for the White Sox, my dad would have them blaring on the tube. Hawk Harrelson would say "Scotty Pods" about 10 times during every Podsednik at-bat. It was all I could do to not hurl at every mention.
  8. Did not realize Schwarbs had played a handful of games at 1B for the Bosox. Guess he made an error earlier tonight, then celebrated this routine play later. Kid seems to have fun playing baseball. He also led off with a dinger tonight.
  9. Has it really been 33 years? I was in the stands at ol' Memorial Stadium that day. The year before, we beat OSU 31-10 -- it was "the darkest day in Ohio State football history," according to coach Earle Bruce, who was fired at the end of the season. So the next year, we welcomed John Cooper with an epic beatdown. Unfortunately, that's the last time we beat the Buckeyes. I think we tied them a couple years later (before there was OT), but other than that -- all L's. ... Would be nice to buck (pun intended) that trend this year ... https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/this-date-in-iu-football-history-hoosiers-trounce-ohio-state-41-7-in-bloomington/?fbclid=IwAR0uc30phnRXbEOgq1CTxk1qKqRL-BEKpb4PjpOqTDWxIyb3FrEmlgPQLlM
  10. This year is just a bit of an anomaly because the Dodgers won 106 games and ended up in the winner-take-all wild-card game. It's pretty rare for that to happen. I could see possibly making the WC a best-of-three series, but for the most part, I say leave the playoffs alone. They go on long enough as it is. I've got a great solution for the Dodgers to avoid the WC game -- win your division. If you don't, you go to the wild-card game. That's just the way it is. Otherwise, let's get rid of divisions -- just take the top four teams in each league. In football, we've seen 8-8 division winners host 11-5 WC teams in the playoffs. It sucks for the 11-5 team, but that's the way it goes. John Smoltz is arguing that the second wild-card winner should have to beat the top WC twice. That's ludicrous. What if the top WC team won 95 games and the second WC team won 94? Should the 94-win team have to win twice? Or what if they had the same number of wins? Who has to beat whom twice? C'mon -- that makes no sense. I can't think of any other playoff system that works that way. In 2015, the Cubs had 97 wins. They had the third-best record in their division -- and in the NL as it turned out. They were five games ahead of the second-best division winner. Yet they were the No. 2 wild-card and had to play one game at Pittsburgh. And I was fine with that. It's just the way it is. They made it to the NLCS against the Mets. New York got home field despite finishing seven games behind the Cubs. I didn't like it, but that's the way it is. The Cubs didn't win their division; the Mets did. In the NCAA tournament, say a No. 16 seed is 16-15 and plays in the worst conference and the No. 1 seed is 30-4 and plays in the best Power 5 conference. Should the No. 16 seed have to win twice to advance? No. That's silly. The baseball playoffs have just enough teams and last long enough. If anything, I'd argue to go back to one wild-card and have the three division winners and one WC advance. Just my 2 cents' worth -- which with inflation, is worth zero.
  11. Dakich for mayor!!! https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/dan-dakich-for-indianapolis-mayor-former-iu-basketball-player-says-he-is-considering-it/
  12. Schwarby likes to take Cole deep in wildcard games ...
  13. I'm really interested to see what Tuttle can do. He'll have two weeks to prepare for MSU, and it seems that for the foreseeable future, it'll be his team. I've sorta thought all along that with all Penix's injuries that Tuttle might be the better option anyway. He's had two starts: Was OK against Bucky and didn't look great against Ole Miss -- but played a good bit of the game with a separated shoulder. I think given time, he could be pretty decent.
  14. Guy's got some serious flow, too. Can think of too many NFL QBs with better salad than that.
  15. Weather delay at an indoor stadium? That's a new one on me ...
  16. That whole sequence after the pick was messed up. First of all, Penix should've gotten the first down. He takes one more step before going into his slide -- and he's there. He needed to be more aware of that. Second of all, I hate the shotgun on fourth down and short. You're essentially turning fourth and 1 into fourth and 5. Either line up under center, come up with a better play -- or just take the three points. They were a gift anyway. Regardless, though it should've at the very least been 7-3, it could've easily been 7-7. We still probably don't win -- but it's definitely a different ball game at that point.
  17. Yeah. I'm beginning to think he's the Maurice Creek of football. A good player with lots of potential when healthy, but he just can't stay upright. Guy had three season-ending injuries in his first three years. Feel bad for him, but something about him just ain't right this year. The injuries have taken their toll. Nobody's gonna ever confuse Tuttle for Michael Vick, but I actually think because of all the injuries, he's much more mobile than Penix at this point. We keep waiting for Penix to get hot -- because we've all seen what can happen when he does -- but we're five games in and he hasn't even tasted lukewarm.
  18. I'm switching over to Auburn-LSU. And I'll bet my paycheck that the Tigers win this one.
  19. I'm not as sold on Penn State's D as these announcers are. Our offense was embarrassingly atrocious tonight. We weren't gonna win, but we shoulda had at least 14-17 points.
  20. Hewitt just sorta ran a really lazy route down the sideline -- then stopped. It looked as if Tuttle expected him to run a post. Or at least cut back in. But he just stopped. I'm not sure that pick was all Tuttle's fault. It wasn't the greatest throw, but still ...
  21. I have no idea where Tuttle was throwing that.
  22. We hold 'em inside the 5, then barely keep it out of the end zone on our possession. Then after a punt and a return relatively deep into our territory, we hold 'em again -- and have 12 men on the field on a fourth-down field goal try God -- this team is a train wreck. Nowhere near as sharp as we were last year.
  23. Why is Fryfogle so worthless this year? I just don't get it. He was a monster last year.
  24. I'll be ding-dong-doogled. We held 'em.
