How fitting is it that Gerry DiNardo -- the worst coach in the history of possibly the worst Power 5 program in history -- is commenting on this cluster fudge of a game.

I was never a big fan of those 1970s Steelers, but have become a big admirer of the late Chuck Noll. His thoughts on football were pretty simple -- to succeed, you need good players who are well-prepared and have been well-schooled in the fundamentals. In the end, that's what is important. All that rah-rah BS doesn't really mean a damn thing. LEO is a nice mantra, but it doesn't necessarily win you ballgames. Our guys can't tackle. They can't block. At this point, I'm not sure there's anything we can actually do -- well, except turn the ball over.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I've seen more than one report about it. I still don't understand all the Mel Tucker love. He's college football's equivalent of Dexy's Midnight Runners (Come on Eileen) -- a one-hit wonder. He somehow got hired in East Lansing after one season at Colorado -- and he was 5-7 there. Sparty was bad last year and while having a good run this season, they barely beat Michigan, needed OT to beat Nebraska and we'd have beaten them if not for our pathetically inept offense. Now, he's apparently in line to get huge dollars from MSU -- after being mentioned as a top candidate at LSU. I'm a Bears fan, and he was the DC in Chicago for two seasons a few years back -- and that defense was historically awful. To each his own and far be it from me to tell MSU how to spend its money -- but I'd sure as hell think about tamping the brakes on the Mel Tucker train. I just don't get it.
