The alternative to your bull$hit argument is to have 2 mediocre to terrible coaches every 15 years. I would rather roll the dice and try to get a coach that doesn’t suck. It is called a meritocracy, I would much rather have that culture than one of accepting mediocrity.

I have a different irrational theory. Maybe it isn’t the fans, but rather it is the toxic message board fans criticizing the fans that are the real problem.

I really wish I could find the post of all the awesome players that came out of the portal that were ranked waaaay below the players we got last year. As long as our coach can scout, we shouldn’t worry about the rankings.

I think that’s fair.  While it’s frustrating we arent getting big names now, I’m not shocked either.   Next year should be a different boat. 

What are realistic expectations for next season?  Sorry if wrong thread.   Does DDV get the benefit of inheriting a $h1t show or is it top 3 in conference?   Just having a competent coach, alone, will certainly help.   I’m also not surprised we aren’t getting a couple of these guys right now just bc there are so many unknowns. While PT is guaranteed, there is literally no team - so I can understand some kids hesitancy.   Even if iu is average next year, hopefully we have a foundation to build with and IU will be in a better position to attract kids next year.      
 
I think long term IU will be very solid with DDV, but may not happen next year. 
 
I also recognize a lot of us have a lot of built up frustrations and see immediate turnarounds at places like UM and Louisville. 

I went to high school with a girl who thought I was asking a trick question when I asked who the vice president was? She laughed and said there is no such thing.

I went to school with a doctor that didn’t understand the difference between brothers and twins.

I think we are probably looking at what he did last year at WVU. Hopefully he can establish the culture and Year 2 is a big improvement. But I am a toxic fan, so don’t listen to me.

I am rather pessimistic after the never ending clown orgies I have witnessed the last 25 years. That said, How did it turn out when we threw bags of cash at last year’s portal transfers?
We need to stop focusing on the money and the rankings and bring the right guys in. We have seen how the right culture can turn a program around.
For all we know, coach DDV has targeted a bunch of guys that we haven’t heard of that have the right attitude and can win. Someone posted a list of the awesome players that emerged this year that had terrible rankings in last year’s portal. Let’s give our coach the benefit of the doubt and wait until January before we start the next “coaching search” thread.

Mike Woodson. 100% objective empirical data showed he should’ve been shown the door after greatly underperforming in year 3 and NEVER considered for a year 4… in particular when you had Pearl and May in the wings for the job!!  It was 100% management malfeasance to bring him back.
 
(mods maybe open that thread back up…I think many aren’t done venting about the 5h1t show we were forced to endure for another wasted year).
