  1. An IU commitment from Romeo has more symbolic value than anything if he plans on playing just a single season. Programs are judged on their recruiting power more than they should be, imo. Now I know it's more personal for our fanbase since he's an in-state kid and yes, he would be a huge boost w/o question. But he nor any other one and done player is the master key to success. Success requires long term planning, and the four coming in + Race are the foundation of such a plan. This is why we shouldn't lose our heads over this if it doesn't go our way. 2. The ending to that MN-Bama game was crazy. I may never see something like that again! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  3. We'll have a good shot with Watford until the end. However, I don't know what other offers he's pulled in over the last few months. But the family's connections will bode well for IU throughout. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  4. Wishing I could go to the Bloomington game this weekend! I hope the atmosphere is awesome for him. Since they moved one of NA's games to Indy on Jan 6th I'll be heading to that one instead. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  5. CuJo is searching for his role and along with that, his confidence. I know this isn't unique to just him, but he's playing for his second coach in two years at the high major level. Some players need more time to adapt to big changes like that. Right now I think he's going out there more focused on avoiding mistakes rather than just playing. He needs to look for the dribble drive more often because he seems most comfortable creating off the dribble He seems too timid to do that within this offense right now. However, I haven't been able to watch every game this year so maybe that's an inaccurate observation. All this is just my .02 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  6. The ridiculousness I referenced earlier is in reference to the bickering and snarky comments among several people. If it pertains to the young Romeo Langford, post away everyone. If it's to call another poster out, take jabs at them for a differing opinion or incorrect prediction then leave it to yourselves. DM that person if you're feeling particularly brave. Posting just to be petty is stupid and, circling back to my original post, ridiculous. Now that that's clarified.... Romeo. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  7. Can we start a non-ridiculous Romeo thread? This one has lost most of its luster. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  8. It's been mentioned that although humble, Romeo prefers the lion's share of the spotlight. At face value that statement can be read to make him seem like a selfish person, which he's not at all. But to showcase himself, it makes sense. He will not be as much "on display" at Kansas amid a stacked roster. At Vandy, Garland and Shittu are two other top 15s that will get a lot of attention, but not much of a supporting cast behind that. IU has no top 10s to compete with, but will have a very solid supporting cast of experienced players and a wealth of 4 star newcomers around him, which would be more than Vandy has to offer aside from Garland and Shittu. It depends on how you view things, sure. But IU could have the balance that would benefit Romeo the most. Only time will tell. But until then, I look forward to tracking his senior year. 11. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I'm just warning you.... People here are enjoying the discussion about his talent in general for the evening. Scrooge McDuck comments in the middle of decent discussion will get you labeled quickly. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  13. Nobody here realistically expects us to beat Duke. This season is all about tempering expectations. See my earlier post. That stretch of games is the trial by fire this team needs that will foster improvement. It'll be tough for the team and for us. We haven't seen the full capabilities of this team mostly due to lack of confidence, inexperience, and role discovery. This stretch of games could really help all that. With the freshmen in particular this may make most of the B1G not quite as intimidating. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  14. A world of difference in the focus & intensity of the team from H1 to H2. That's coaching and hopefully upperclassmen leadership. I think it's those two intangibles that are a big root to some of our struggles given the large amount of freshmen minutes and system learning/implementation. Those are the kind of things that improve wth reps, and I believe that although that 5-game gauntlet looming ahead will be stupid tough, it will be one of the most beneficial things this team experiences. 15. There is no offensive confidence on this team right now. Anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  16. Like you, I'd obviously love to cite current success instead of having to lean on the future. And I don't want to go banners because, well, it's been too long now unless we're talking program histories. I also wouldn't deny to anyone the relative success of Matt Painter's program in recent years. But I will never concede to Purdoo or it's fans....Ever. 17. It's the dumb ones who do the most ribbing. All you have to do is remind them where two of their best backyard prospects have committed to play ball next season. Odds are they won't even know, which means you get to be the one to educate them! And remind them who got right to the top of the pack with two top ten guys for 2018 in no time at all. And 2019? It's looking pretty darn good for the candy stripes so far. Gah, I can't wait! I hope it's a long and insufferable Archie Era for those Purdue Pete-r Eaters. 20. As much as I love reading all the pleasantries being exchanged, let's chill the *bleep* out for a minute. 1) Losing top recruits sucks. Losing top in-state recruits sucks even more. Losing a top in state recruit to Vanderbilt... Well, we all agree on what that is. 2) Romeo Langford isn't signing for another 5 months, so let's pace ourselves. If he doesn't choose us it doesn't have much to do with CAM. It has to do with the insufficient roster he's inherited and the inefficient play style he has to flush out of his players basketball minds. He's coaching and recruiting handicapped this year. However, if he does choose us it speaks a ton about CAM and how he and the staff get through to these top targets. And that's promising. *salivates* Until April, we won't know. 3) People handle things differently. Generally your optimists handle the process of a rebuild with more patience and less panic, but are more let down when certain goals aren't met. Your pessimists hate a rebuild because it just can't happen fast enough, but are well-prepared for shortcomings. As long as these two mindsets are expressed with some sensibility and read into with an open mind, one shouldn't supremely irritate the other. 4) 2019 and beyond is where CAM proves himself. Skepticism in moderation is fine. Optimism in moderation is fine. Looking for a reason to get offended and have a pissing contest about it in front of everyone else is not. Keep that part in the DMs. It happened the last few days before Garland's committment and afterward when most people were stressed about him. I get it. But there is no sign of Romeo committing anytime soon, and if the bickering goes on until April I'll lose my mind. My apologies for feeding into the issue. /rant. 21. Wow. Doom and gloom all up in here. No. We aren't where we want to be. We'd say the same thing if there hadn't been a significant change about 8 months ago. When you hire a new coach, who brings a new basketball philosophy, to coach a team that was recruited in mediocrity (the staff, not the players) and taught to play a mediocre style of basketball, the product on the court may actually take some steps back while everything develops. Oh, and on top of that it's also the same team who lost 3 players to the pros. To me that sounds like a recipe for taking it on the chin this season. This is something we should have anticipated. And yes, it sucks. What we didn't anticipate ( and quite frankly shouldn't have to - EVER -) is the lack of effort from so many returning players. THAT'S the disappointing part of this. We can take the on court growing pains, that's fine. But to step on THAT court with THAT mindset??? Inexcusable. And that's what's gonna make some of these games go from tough to embarrassing, because half of them will just shut down. Progress could be made so much more easily if it weren't for the mentality (or lack thereof). Luckily that can, and hopefully does, improve. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  22. What stands out about this is how did nobody see or know about this tweet at the time? All that takes is one retweet and it's spreading like wildfire, especially considering the timing. But nobody got a hold of it. My guess is anyone relevant in the recruiting game who did see it trusted their own sources way more than an apparent unknown. I.e. this probably wasn't likely. But hey, you never know anymore. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  24. To each his own and I respect your opinion. I was feeling disappointed yesterday afternoon as well. I'm as competitive as the next guy/athlete/fan, but there are some situations where there actually is a consolation prize and it can even be ok to accept it. All you have to do is imagine there hadn't been a coaching change. After nearly a decade of FCTC I think we can all accurately surmise what the outlook for 2018 recruiting might be right now and I don't think we'd be looking at so much potential. And we wouldn't see a team picking apart a half court zone. Or *gasp* in game adjustments. Losing out on Garland yesterday and knowing the possible effect it could have on Romeo was a shot to the pills. However, we're only in position to feel that way because there is already great work being done presently and so much potential in the not so far away future of Indiana Basketball. Chin up, Hoosier fans. We're already well on our way. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  25. I tolerate most posts on here, allowing each to have his/her opinion. And it's not that I don't tolerate the above post. I have my share of knee jerk reactions. But if in this particular situation second place is indeed for losers, what is your definition of first place? If landing 4 top 100 guys + 2 top ten guys for CAMs first high major recruiting class after 8 months on the job was the expectation, I disagree. That'd be incredible, but shouldn't be expected. Not yet. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
