(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

That's funny. The first time I saw him play (I think maybe the Butler game), I asked by buddy, "Who's that old dude out there? He looks like he's my age!" I'm 54. -

Seriously, what is wrong with him that he is incapable of changing a lineup unless injuries dictate? Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app -
Game Thread: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers
bigrod replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I totally agree with the concepts, but until we show we are a consistent threat to make those shots, I don't think we pull the defenders out with us. They will at least "hedge" toward the basket. -
But like you said, you don't have to play them. If you really want a player to leave, but the admin says no, you don't play him and he will most likely decide to leave on his own.

My issue is that you are starting the guy every game and he rarely comes out. To me, you are telling the rest of the team that this is the type of player you need to be to be successful here. Meanwhile, the guy looks disinterested 90% of the time. That's a bad precedent to set.
-
I'm guessing it's the same guy that starts every game and rarely sees the bench.

So, I've gone from fully believing Archie was going to be the answer, to hoping he could put together a decent team, to realizing he just doesn't have it. For a while I thought he was too stubborn to change anything, but now I think he is just not capable. He seems to be the only one who still thinks he has a system that can beat anyone, any place, with whatever time to prepare. How long can you continue to beat that square peg into the round hole before you realize it will not fit? I'm guessing at least 4 years. But seriously, what good coach is out there who is willing to take over this program? I know many keep acting like we can just throw money around and get whoever we want, but I just don't see that happening. I want to believe that the next one will finally be the right coach, but nothing I have seen makes me think we won't whiff yet again.

I’ve been trying to figure out if Arch is too stubborn to make any changes, or just incapable. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Obviously didn't study Tom's Indiana career that well. Wait until he tells him he's in the second rebuild.

Prediction League (Game 24 - Iowa 2/13/20)
bigrod replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Seems any positive change we see with this team is short lived, but I think they play a little more inspired in this one. Hopefully, Iowa's defense helps a little too. Be nice to see a Fran meltdown as well. IU 80 Iowa 74 -
I get his hands were somewhat tied. I also get that the players and CAM were at a new stage of their relationships. We expect that CAM should have known exactly what would happen 3 years down the road. I'm sure he thought everyone was starting with a clean slate and he could get the players to buy in to his methods. I also agree that he could have, and probably should have done things better. Hindsight is always 20/20. Look how many people were optimistic that Green was going to be our go-to 15 ppg scorer this year. Many were optimistic about his senior year, but it just didn't work out that way. It's just so frustrating that we are in this spot yet again. I get that CAM is going to be here next year. I still hope he is able to turn things around, but I have to say, I haven't seen any outward signs that its going to happen. If we know anything about him it is that he is very resistant to change. I think you will always be somewhat limited with that mindset. He really needs to have some serious reflection in the off-season and make correct decisions about the parts of his system he scraps, and what he is going to stick with, but improve.

The Iowa game is critical, in my opinion. Does this team show any more mental fortitude than we have seen so far? If not, there's no way we win any of our road games, and winning the home games will not be a given. I think we are where many of us worried we were going when we still had a good record, but were playing uninspired basketball. Even if this team comes out and plays well against Iowa, there is nothing we have seen so far that shows us it will be sustained for long. Unless this team comes out and shows us a side we haven't seen yet, I think we are looking at 2-4, with very little confidence going into the BTT.

I commented earlier this year that Hunter wanted to come to IU but we didn't offer him. I was told he wasn't any good. But, he almost outscored all of our guards combined.
-
Yeah, there's always been a very small part of me that wanted Crean to have to stick around one more year to deal with that mess he left.
-
Chris, what is the mood like behind the scenes? Anything you can comfortably talk about?
-
Probably true, but maybe he's just self-aware.
