I think you have to look at it in context. It was Army. He made them a tough team to play with pretty limited talent.

I agree. I'm just not sure what changes.

As a person who has been a fan since the early ‘80’s, I thought Crean’s last few years were the least optimistic I had ever felt. This is worse. At least with Crean you’d get a good season every 3 years or so. We just struggled to put up 60 points against an unranked rival at home. A game we had a week to prepare for. A game where Bob Knight came back to Assembly Hall. This team had nothing. Absolutely nothing. For their biggest rival. At home. Never thought I would see the day. I hear all the excuses. It’s the administration. It’s the facilities. It’s the bad Crean players. But this team plays with no emotion since Miller has been here. This team rarely rises to the occasion. This team doesn’t even seem to want to be on the floor half the time. I’m not sure how the administration is doing that. They really seem like they couldn’t care less. I guess practice is what is important, because it sure isn’t games. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

Exactly. You either have a set and do it your way and do the job you were hired to do and dare them to fire you for it, or you role over and get fired anyway. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

Only reason I suffered through the whole half is because I was at the gym on a treadmill, so I was doing something halfway productive. I remember them showing Knight leaving and the first thought that went through my head was, even he doesn’t want to watch this crap. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

Given all that happened today, if you call yourself a Hoosier and you can’t get up for this game, you need to be excused. I’m tired of the excuses. That was pathetic. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

If people are discussing it, what are they discussing? What is meant by him being "handcuffed?"
-
In this case, yes I would. Think about what you are saying. This isn’t some guy with a job down at the quarry. This is a very public job. If my employer was not allowing me to fully do my job in this case, yes, I would dare them to fire me. As far as the rest of it, let’s just go with the coincidence theory. I guess it’s just a coincidence that the team can no longer shoot jump shots or free throws. Has nothing at all to do with the offense or coaching. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

Count me as skeptical. Have they told him he has to stick with an offense that is flawed? Have they told him players are not allowed to practice shooting? I would love to know what "handcuffing" means. I mean, are they giving him the starting lineup? I guess I just find it really hard to believe that a guy who is as set in his ways as Archie has shown to be would allow much in the way of meddling. If he has, he isn't the coach I thought he was. But, I guess I've already come to that realization.

Yeah, I don't disagree. But I've seen teams with less talent impose their will.
-
I was thinking something similar this morning. I was trying to remember the last game I saw us impose our will on someone. I'd love to see this team come out and just bully the other team, but I really can't remember the last time I saw that. That's why most teams are so tough at home. They have the attitude of, "Not in our house." You just don't see that at all with this team, or really, any team since Archie has been here.
-
I guess I'm probably in the minority here, but I personally don't think this team gets substantially better until Smith is gone. He starts every game, and plays a lot of minutes, so I would assume he is the standard Archie wants. He must be an awesome practice player. I get he's a pretty decent defender when he wants to be, but on good days he plays to about 75% of his capabilities. Most times he just seems to be going through the motions. He reminds me of someone just putting in their time, but not really enjoying their job. It's sad that he is one of our most consistent players. Consistency is great if it's toward the top end of the spectrum. I just feel like he is consistently average.

I’ve been a fan since the early 80’s. I still remember watching the ‘81 title game live on TV. I’ve seen a lot of really good basketball and then a lot of not so much. I was really getting discouraged in Crean’s last couple years, and I was excited that Archie was going to bring back a defense first, fundamental soundness, and accountability that we hadn’t seen for a while. I have to say I think I’m even more discouraged now. Honestly, this brand of basketball is just hard for me to watch. This team is so frustrating. There is talent n this team, but it seems largely untapped. The fact that Archie allows it to keep happening tells me he approves. If we have so few alternatives in his third year that he doesn’t approve, but is powerless to make the appropriate changes, it is an indication that he doesn’t know how to build a program at this level. Regardless of what anyone says, I think the vast majority of fans would be behind this team if we saw a team that cared, game in and game out. If we saw the effort put forth every game, I think we could handle the occasional dud. But, what we see is the same players doing the same things game after game, and in some cases, year after year. Nothing changes because the coach resists change. Someone needs to clue him in that it is not working. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

Hard to understand with Archie being a former guard. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Really tired of hearing that we need to give it a few more years because the upper class men are not Archie's guys. That's a total cop out. That does not mean they can't be developed. That does not mean they can't be motivated. Doesn't mean they aren't basketball players. They are either part of the team or they are not. Shame on Archie if it took him 3 years to figure out they aren't.

He was trying to be cute and infer that it was due to the officiating. I agree there was no reasoning behind what got called and what didn't, but that is almost every game in the B1G. We didn't get calls because of the way we were playing.
-
But, we were a ridiculously unrealistic fan base for wanting a change.
-
Because he's old. ...and also a cheater. I've heard that affects your hearing.

I guess I would never compare Green to Favre. Favre won GB way more games than he lost them, so you were willing to put up with a few INT's. Green, on the other hand, is part of a class that has never made it to the Tournament. What I saw yesterday was an offense that totally stalled down the stretch with Green directing it. They went from cutting to just standing around. Obviously, there are 4 other players out there, but if Green is just standing in one spot dribbling the ball, there isn't going to be a lot of movement. Maybe that was the plan, I don't know. I always feel like if you get 5 good minutes from Green, it's time to get him out because you're living on borrowed time. He plays hero ball, always wanting to make the Sports Center play, but he's rarely good enough to be the hero. I agree that CAM didn't recruit him, but he is hardly powerless to merely play the hand he was dealt. He's had plenty of time to develop Green or shuffle the deck and get new cards. -

We know who he is. He should never be playing at the end of a close game. That’s on Miller. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Makes me like CAM more...

So I didn't see it. Was Kansas just trying to run the clock out or were they trying to score? To me, that makes the difference. If they are running a play and trying to score, then stealing the ball is fair game. If they are just dribbling the ball until the clock runs out, that's a pretty low class move.
