College football teams have 80 or so recruits and the rankings of those recruiting classes is a huge factor. It is true that Scales, Covington etc are better than their rankings, and that some 4 and 5 stars do not live up to their billing, but rankings absolutely DO MATTER. Every year some players underperform while others overperform, compared to their rankings, but when you recruit 80--100 players over 4 years your odds of success are much, much better when you land a number of highly recruited players. A few years ago a recruiting service looked at the teams in the final college playoff game and every single final 2 teams in the previous 10 years averaged being one of the the best 10 recruiting classes over those past ten years. Ie..highly recruited classes equaled being in the hunt. We have some good players but no where near the talent level of the teams in our division.

Archie had to know that accepting the "burden" to develop a powerful team was a prerequisite of taking the job. He knows that everyone is expecting a way overdue 6th banner at some point in his tenure.

We "can" beat them but in the past 10 years of BL and KW (recent history) we went 18-63 in the BT and beat one team that finished the conference with a better than .500 record.One in 10 years. We beat two with a .500 record (4-4) and the rest of the wins were against IL, historically bad PU teams, etc. In other words......We are due :)

When we had decent OL's, RB's and QB's we had horrible defenses. now we have a decent (not great) defense but the OL, RB's and QB's are not as good as the Sudfeld and Ben C years.

He did use very good form when he took the knee. A fundamentally sound kneel down. Kudos to the team for settling down after a comically bad start. Good to see they did not go in the tank.

Good news for now but once the Feds make Fair "sing" who knows what will come out. Not real easy for me to believe that Fair and Petino were involved but Johnson was not.

I would bet Bruce Pearl will be gone soon. At least Auburn fans can feel good that their football program is clean (like the rest of the SEC :) )

I agree. The Kenny Johnson connection scares me as does "he has great connections" Schilling since he apparently did well recruiting at UCLA and is now on our staff. A little too early for us to wave victory flags.

As someone else mentioned Alford sat out for the UK game. Knight actually had some flexibility as to which game Alford sat and intentionally chose the UK game as he the knew they were huge cheaters. He wanted to contrast Alford being punished for posing for a charitable calendar vs. known cheaters that were not being punished.

Thanks. Heard all the Addidas talk and did not realize that three of the arrestees were from Nike schools. This is going to expand to many schools, especially those that have landed top 10 kids (ie one and done NBA potential).

I just heard a tape recording of a call the NCAA made to the FBI: "This is shocking and outrageous. Please pass along any information you have in regards to cheating. We want to hear the unvarnished truth as long as you do not provide any details about UNC, Duke or any football programs".

So several 5 stars that committed to the Ville have decommited. I would not touch them with a ten foot pole. what are the odds that they were not offered something along the lines of what Bowen received? 5% ? Not worth the risk.
