General Coach Candidate News
moyemayhem replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can someone explain to me how Calbert is a better candidate than Woodson? Other than being a better college player, their resumes aren't even close. Woodson steadily improved the Hawks for 6 straight years, and coached the Knicks to their best season in 20 years... both as a head coach. Woodson is pretty far down on my list, but I don't understand what Cheaney offers at all. -

I think Woodson and Lewis is more realistic. -

How so? The US has won 6 of the last 7 Olympics, and the other competitive nations have rosters full of NBA players. -

Danny Ainge is a mormon from Oregon... still might be a dick but the odds are lower. -

I think this quote from Titus sums it up: "You should quit your job if you cover basketball for a living and you think Brad Stevens is not considering this... You're going to look like a f***ing idiot." -

Those quotes are from an interview on some random Boston radio show that I'm pretty sure is mandated by the Celtics brass. If Brad Stevens is actually listening to Indiana but hasn't made his mind up, there is not a chance in hell that he tells anyone in the media that. There is an even smaller chance that he decides to break it to 2 hacks on a radio show. That story is just taking his quotes from the radio show and making it seem like it was some thought out statement that he published, which it absolutely was not. -

He has a weird way of saying he's not interested in leaving Alabama... it kind of sounds to me like he might be interested in leaving Alabama. -

If we are talking dream scenarios, how about Stevens with Beilein as a top assistant who can get things rolling while Brad finishes the NBA season out. Seems like Beilein just wants to work anyway, and it could reduce his recruiting burden. -
It looks like the airline lost Crean's luggage and he had to ask Jeremiah April if he could borrow some clothes.

This is kind of random... https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2020/8/3/21353163/mark-wahlberg-is-now-handing-out-iu-football-scholarships Is Mark Wahlberg actually an IU football fan? Why would a random celebrity with no apparent connection to Indiana torture themselves in this way? Did someone just go on Cameo and pay him to say this?

Interesting article on which basketball/football coaches have taken pay cuts at power 5 schools, and which haven't (yet). For the record, it appears both Archie Miller and Tom Allen have taken a pay cut, and I commend them for it. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29468590/some-not-all-coaches-share-colleges-burden-amid-coronavirus-pandemic

Michael Lewis - All time leader in assists at IU pre-Yogi. Such a hard nosed and intelligent player. The drama of Knight's final years over shadowed his contributions. Earl Calloway - Starter on 2 tourney teams, and was a rebound away from a triple double against Gonzaga in 2006 tourney game. He was always a steady performer who would rise to the occasion against better competition. Greg Graham - The #2 scorer on probably our best team in the last 30 years. He was such a good complement to Calbert. As a guard shot over 50% from is sophomore year on, and shot over 50% from 3 as a senior (before everyone was shooting them). Juwan Morgan - Played bigger than his size and was a very underrated defender. He surpassed everyone expectations and acted as a leader when we needed one most. Max Biefeldt - Great spark off the bench on a Big Ten Championship team. Was very efficient and surprisingly feisty.

Yep, they did in 91-92... Good catch, I forgot about that.

Episodes 7 and 8 of the Last Dance were my favorite so far. I loved that they ended episode 8 with Reggie saying he wanted to retire Jordan. That gave me chills. The '98 conference finals was one of only two teams to take a Jordan led Bulls championship team to 7 games. That Pacers team was loaded and great (and my favorite team growing up). Can't wait to see them get into the details of that series.

It's either that, or this guy just caught Coronavirus. -
Yes... I thought it was a pretty great start to The Last Dance. I loved the candidness of Jordan, Pippen, Jackson, and Reinsdorf in the interviews. The jumping around in time can be a little jarring, but it’s the best way to give context and a little history on Jordan and the Bulls team. There was a nice Knight cameo, calling Jordan the best player he’d ever coached during the ‘84 olympics. I was a huge Reggie and Pacers fan in the ‘90s, but there was always an inevitability about how these seasons would end when the Bulls were at their peak. Jordan is the best ever, and the most captivating athlete I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see the rest of these episodes. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

This makes me wonder if we might see more quality walkons at high major programs, since their likeness compensation may be better than the scholarship benefits at a lesser school.

Nice win for the Colts. The defense was pretty iffy and couldn't cover anyone in the second half, but Brissett really played great. ... and I need to post this picture just so I don't have to read that idiotic Gottleib tweet anymore in the app.
