  1. Victor has been amazing for the Pacers, and he has been my favorite Pacer to watch since the days of Reggie. With that said he is neither the best player in the league or the most valuable player in the league, and I don't think it's that close on either.
  2. I think sometimes people forget on these forums that the primary mission at universities is academic and not athletic. IU’s operating budget is around $3.5 billion, and it’s athletic budget only makes up about $100 million of that. You don’t jeopardize the university’s academic reputation for its athletics. It doesn’t make sense logically, ethically, or economically.
  3. I found this leaked photo of the FBI's lead investigators in the case...
  4. Only one company is on the cutting edge of both shoe technology and fashion, and has some nice crimson in their kicks to match our jerseys...
  5. Good point... our pretty girls will show up free of charge.
  6. Flint was a perfect hire for Archie. I'm pretty sure you couldn't find more than a couple assistant coaches at the college level that could match his D1 head coaching experience. The timing worked out well, and we were extremely lucky to have been able to land him.
  7. It sounds like 3-point defense will be the biggest challenge with the pack line. I don't think perimeter passing should cause too many problems, simply because by sagging off the offensive player when they don't have the ball, an alert defender can hedge more effectively and decrease the opportunity for off the ball movement and screens to create large separation and easy shots. However, I do think drive and kicks will cause problems for this defense, because the pack line encourages opposition players to dribble into the teeth of the defense in the paint, which will often require help defenders from the perimeter and provide opportunities for good spot up shooters. I agree with Stuhoo that this defense will be less physically demanding, but at the same time it will likely require a higher level of mental awareness. I also think disciplined defensive recovery and close outs will need to be an emphasis for our players.
  8. Who says you can't win a title with an overweight and short point guard?
  9. Last I checked, both IU and France have brought in new, young, and refreshing leaders in the last several months to reinvigorate our respective nations. I'd say the description is still spot on.
  10. Is that a Diet Pepsi? That's a little concerning. Everyone knows Tom is a Diet Coke kind of guy.
  11. There's nothing wrong with taking the high road... even when it's on twitter.
  12. Anyone complaining about this has no concept of the due diligence necessary when a state institution pays $23 million to hire someone to a highly scrutinized and very public job opening. Honestly, for $90k it sounds like we got off pretty cheap.
  13. I'm just glad to see that Archie has finally settled the best pizza in Bloomington debate.
  14. Great hire by Archie! Marshall looks like he comes in with quite the pedigree, and he rounds out a really phenomenal staff. As an added bonus it appears we've hired someone who is qualified to be both the athletic trainer and team chaplain.
  15. The NBA is the only organization that determines the rules for eligibility that would be necessary for an athlete to enter their draft. They can set the age at 18, 19, 20, or 25 if they wanted (assuming they got past any lawsuits that were filed). The NCAA has no say in the matter, and could never make a rule that prohibits a student from leaving college and working professionally for another organization.
  16. And all they'll hear from NBA scouts is that they need to improve their defense and toughness if they want to get drafted. Maybe it's the kick in the @$$ they all need and will be a blessing in disguise.
  17. Background on Schilling: http://www.nwitimes.com/sports/high-school/boys-basketball/park-tudor-s-ed-schilling-has-a-remarkable-hoosiers-story/article_009317fc-ddde-5101-af48-6ad9f5106389.html http://www.uclabruins.com/sports/2013/4/17/208185113.aspx
  18. So to recap... Archie = Eisenhower (supreme commander) Flint = Patton (help is on the way) Crean = Hitler (started this whole mess) Glass = FDR (declared war on Crean, and brought in Archie to fix the problem) Blackmon = Stalin (he's on our side, but some are skeptical of his intentions) OG = Switzerland (he'll be walking away with all the $$$ in the end) And Avers is alright, but personally I preferred Pizza Express and Mother Bear's. I also miss Greek's Pizza.
  19. I don't think you can blame Archie for the situation Crean left him. Archie didn't sign 3 additional incoming freshmen to a roster that already had 12 guys on scholarship for 2017-18 (and now 13 with Hartman's redshirt). I think Archie feels obligated to support all of those players equally, but obviously tough decisions may have to be made. I don't see how any reasonable person can hold him accountable for the scholarship crunch that Crean left him with.
  20. Here are couple good ITH links... Quotes and links to all the articles that resulted from Archie's roundtable meeting with local columnists yesterday: http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/04/05/around-hall-archie-miller-sits-local-columnists/ A good interview with a guy who wrote a book on Archie's dad, John: http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/04/06/q-a-dave-burhenn-author-of-miller-time/ The more I read, the more I really like Archie.
  21. I'm no lawyer, but I will guess that NCAA rules prohibit student athletes from receiving money from a third party to pay for school in lieu of an athletic scholarship that was originally offered by the university.
  22. Flint is not an up and comer, but I don't get why you would assume he doesn't have ties or isn't a basketball junkie. He's been involved in college basketball as a player, assistant coach or coach for 34 straight years. The one year he took off, he traveled the country watching college basketball practices for the fun of it while earning no pay check. I'm just not sure what more Flint could do to prove his basketball junkie pedigree.
