And don't forget self-reporting NCAA violations. That one's a big no-no.
-
Two things about this charade of recruiting violations: 1. Even in the rare instance when the NCAA investigates and acts on recruiting violations, it's so long after the infractions occurred that their "punishments" have little effect or deterrent on the offending school. 2. It seems the CBB world acts as if the sanctions UL received were for what happened with the FBI related cheating. Same goes for the UL fans and recruits - as if cheating Ricky resigning is enough to erase their sins. The FBI investigation will only affect those who were breaking tax law. The feds have no interest or jurisdiction in enforcing recruiting rules. The NCAA has jurisdiction but also has no interest in enforcing recruiting violations (particularly if it concerns one of the more popular teams). I know this is just "preaching to the choir", but I had to say it.

There's a story in the Indy Star about the chant of inferiority up at Little Brother University Hail to the Helms Champs! Nothing earth shattering, mostly amusing about their obsessive behavior.

(2019) PF Matthew Hurt to Duke
pumpfake replied to goonaha's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
While I can only guess how the recruiting strategy goes for the staff, I wonder if when a player verbals they then do a little re-prioritizing of the remaining recruits. How does Franklin's verbal change who they go after hardest? How would a TJD verbal (or signing) change how hard they go after any of the players waiting until spring? Hopefully by the time November has come and gone, we have at least 3 signatures on paper and Archie can focus based on need and current list of future Hoosiers. -

Never say never. Don't forget how close we came to having Knight go to New Mexico (obviously for a different reason). -
Has a player ever committec at HH or the day of? I'm asking because I really don't know and have an old brain. Regardless, that scenario would be fantastic!

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
pumpfake replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As usual, I agree with you. I really hope Trayce has been working on his FT shooting - the few times I watched him play it was an area of needed improvement. This applies to returning players as well. As my dad used to say "you gotta hit your free tosses." -
(2019) SG Brandon Newman to Purdue
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
This kind of goes back to last year when it was noted that Arch didn't make a late visit with Garland. At the time I suspected that the staff had a good indication (one way or another) about our chances with Darius. We all know it but tend to forget that they (Arch and staff) have a better read on what a recruit may be thinking and how a given recruit would fit or be used here. Then again they claim to have had no certainty until Romeo announced. -
This regards something I have considered asking, so here goes: Presuming we get Franklin and not Newman, would you rather he (Newman) choose PU or OSU?

This is where roster building is crucial. A lot of fans like the idea of adding both potential one and dones with solid, 3-4 year players (myself included). I guess the trick is bringing in guys that may not be tempted to leave after a season or two, but still can contribute for at least 3 years. It will be interesting to watch it take shape.

I wonder if that's the game when he was really riding Lawson and at one point yelled "Damn it Lawson" so loud the crowd went silent for a moment. -

It will be interesting to see what happens at those schools. The UK fans have no doubt that they will get Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan (their choice) automatically. I think they are going to be deeply disappointed. -

(2019) CG Jahmius Ramsey
pumpfake replied to AZ Hoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Lol, when I look at his (and several other's) lists, I wonder how UL is in on so many prospects. They must be doing a great job of assuring players that either the NCAA won't do anything to them (and that would probably be true) or any punishment will be far in the future. -
(2019) PG - Tre Mann to Florida
pumpfake replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I had to re-read that to see the (on the court) part. My first reaction was "what he'd do to make them say such comments"? lol -
Hmmm, seems like a bit of a gamble but maybe ESPN is in even worse shape than what we've been led to believe (?). Anyway, the Stadium channel is broadcast free over-the-air in the Indy area (and I'd assume other places). I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Truthfully, I haven't seen much to suggest anything has or will change at UL. At most they may keep their noses clean for a short time, but I'd wager it'll be business as usual once the smoke has cleared. In the very possible event the NCAA does little to nothing to them, look for them to hauling in the recruits asap (and probably at all costs).

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
True. Not only are several key quotes ignored (about it being legal. the Langfords approaching the recruitment totally above board, and no evidence that Tim pocketed excess money) - but you have a lot of people then reading into it what they hope and making massive jumps in logic (and presenting it as fact). Mostly the later by jealous opposing fanbases. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My summary, Pitino was hot after Romeo Langford and became fearful that another shoe company/school might influence him (RL) away. Ricky then contacted Addidas and asked for a little help, Romeo's dad then formed his own AAU team with Addidas. Then Ricky got caught being, once again, slimy and UL was out of the running. If anything it casts a bit of a shadow on Tim Langford - especially if he was paying himself with that Addidas money. Even still, it's apparently legal whether we or anyone else likes it or not. -
Worth a read - From Bob Knight to Archie Miller: Examining IU basketball coaches' first full recruiting classes “What we’d like to do immediately — even before I even think of moving my family here — is get the best freshman group we can find.” The words above weren't spoken by Archie Miller, or Tom Crean, but Bob Knight, in his first days on the job at IU in 1971. Then, as now, savvy recruiting was the lifeblood of any healthy program."

Juwan Morgan RETURNING For Senior Season
pumpfake replied to Cheaney40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Has Juwan been invited to the combine/camps? I heard that the 50 or so invites were to go out this past weekend but hadn't heard if Morgan was one of them. (I don't even know if there is such a 'combine' or invitation). One would think that if this is true that those 50 would likely comprise much of the first two rounds of the NBA draft. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No doubt. What I've found amusing is how over the past year or so the theme on PU boards is how they've been dominant while we've been noncompetitive. While, with the previous 3 coaches we had haven't been consistently good, you could argue that we've actually fared similarly to PU. Since 2000 they've been to 5 s16's to our 4. They made it to the e8 once and we made it to the championship game once. Both teams have 3 BT titles (each with only 2 in the last 10 years). IMO, that's remarkably similar and yet it's something for them to crow about. Now we clearly have our the best coach since Knight, are beginning to finally bring in top in-state players and still appeal to other highly rated players while PU continues to attract second shelf and below prospects. We can see it with the players that have already committed and high interest from several high level kids - we're primed to become perennial contenders while PU will continue to occasionally have a nice season now and then. Basically our floor is level with their ceiling and Archie has begun to move us up. -

In any other year Rob P. would be a Mr. Basketball, I think he's going to be invaluable to the team. It's always funny to see the Purdue Cicadas (every seven years they make it to the s16) act like they've ever accomplished something. -

The Anchor Droppers are pretty bitter right now, too (all 8 of them). They've somehow convinced (deluded) themselves into believing that they are somehow relevant in basketball LOL (they're a bowling school for cryin out loud).
