Juwan Morgan RETURNING For Senior Season
pumpfake replied to Cheaney40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Has Juwan been invited to the combine/camps? I heard that the 50 or so invites were to go out this past weekend but hadn't heard if Morgan was one of them. (I don't even know if there is such a 'combine' or invitation). One would think that if this is true that those 50 would likely comprise much of the first two rounds of the NBA draft. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

No doubt. What I've found amusing is how over the past year or so the theme on PU boards is how they've been dominant while we've been noncompetitive. While, with the previous 3 coaches we had haven't been consistently good, you could argue that we've actually fared similarly to PU. Since 2000 they've been to 5 s16's to our 4. They made it to the e8 once and we made it to the championship game once. Both teams have 3 BT titles (each with only 2 in the last 10 years). IMO, that's remarkably similar and yet it's something for them to crow about. Now we clearly have our the best coach since Knight, are beginning to finally bring in top in-state players and still appeal to other highly rated players while PU continues to attract second shelf and below prospects. We can see it with the players that have already committed and high interest from several high level kids - we're primed to become perennial contenders while PU will continue to occasionally have a nice season now and then. Basically our floor is level with their ceiling and Archie has begun to move us up. -

In any other year Rob P. would be a Mr. Basketball, I think he's going to be invaluable to the team. It's always funny to see the Purdue Cicadas (every seven years they make it to the s16) act like they've ever accomplished something. -

The Anchor Droppers are pretty bitter right now, too (all 8 of them). They've somehow convinced (deluded) themselves into believing that they are somehow relevant in basketball LOL (they're a bowling school for cryin out loud). -

Man, you gotta love Freddie. Exhausted his eligibility and still helping out the team any way he can. Honestly, it's a shame he (FM) didn't get to play 2 years under Miller and staff. -

I can understand wanting a top 5 player to play for your alma mater, but the comment about contending for a national championship tells us Skippy don't know Jack Diddly Squat about college hoops. -

T-minus 67 minutes and counting. Synchronize watches and don the Cream & Crimson. We're down to the "short strokes". Best of luck to all and godspeed. -

IMO, this likely confirms that the coaches have been notified and know the decision. -

Ha. I thought it was "authentic" but was wondering if Archie was standing on a stack of phonebooks, lol. -

I might not call those articles "lies", as much as horsecrap journalism with an agenda. I always enjoyed getting the opportunity (even in H.S. back in the 70's) to read the LCJ's basketball coverage - it was always the most complete source in the region. Key word to that statement is "was". Remember a couple of days ago the fluff piece about Vanderbilt in the IndyStar? Well, both newspapers are completely owned and controlled by Gannett and articles like that (i.e. worthless tripe) have become the norm among them. -

I might not say they 'paid' for anything, or even initiated it, but I'd have to figure that they've been very 'cooperative' as far as letting out some information. Things like this happen in the corporate world and the shoe business is about as cut-throat as it gets. Added: Of course that can work both ways, so nothing was likely done blatantly or explicitly. -

My SWAG is that it'll be somewhere around 700 by Monday morning and by the time the official announcement is made it'll be around 725 pages. Probably add a few dozen pages by the time Tuesday rolls around. -

I really just don't get the "Drew played in the NBA" angle. So what? So did Kevin Ollie (and he actually was pretty good). What kind of knucklehead thinks an unproven coach with a brief background in the NBA is going to do more for a college player than an accomplished college coach? Also, the part in that article that suggests the Drew brothers are such good people could use a little balance by mentioning the threats of deportation HP received when Scotty lost out. -

But how would that make things any better? You'd just have a small number of huge universities competing in bidding wars for the best players. Then what, a salary cap? Nobody would try to find ways around a salary cap by secret payments and incentives. If we're going that route, just form a new professional basketball league and be done with it. -

The Indystar since around 2000 or so is nothing like what it was before being purchased by Gannett. I can tell you that what it bears little to no resemblence to what it was when it was owned by the Pulliam family. As far as what teams or schools get more coverage, that's been going on forever. IU has historically gotten more coverage than Purdue simply because of the fact that there is more interest in IU than Purdue. Under USAToday ownership, the coverage for every local school is pretty meager. -

Articles and writers like that are the reason the Indianapolis Star is circling the drain. When Gannett/USA Today began buying up local newspapers (like IndyStar) they flushed out most of the local writers and reporters and just operated them like branch versions of one big, crappy paper. That's why we've seen the Kravitz's, Doyel's, and other columnists show up as virtual strangers. Even so, I'm puzzled why they would have a Notre Dame beat writer write an article from a Vanderbilt point of view - but little goes on within the USA Today umbrella that makes any sense. And BTW, to paraphrase the immortal words of Bill Polian: "Who the hell is Laken Litman"? I'd never heard of her before. -

Totally agree. But it would be funny if he put on the IU hat, put the KU had in front of him and then moved the VU hat way off to the side to indicate Vanderbilt was a "distant third". LOL, but again, please no fake outs or hat games. On an unrelated note, the VU board has a thread about them going after Wiseman AND Trendon Watford. -

How some anonymous poster on a Kansas message board would be able to know details that no one else, particularly those very close to the Langford camp, are aware of makes makes no logical sense. There's the old saying about where there's smoke there's fire, and this 'Tonto' guy seems more like a dusty fart than smoke. We'll know the decision only when it's announced (obviously), but all along I've felt that if there are any leaks they would either come directly from a staff or a player (none that I'm aware of to this point) or from those in the community (if anything they've been overwhelmingly toward IU). -
Juwan Morgan RETURNING For Senior Season
pumpfake replied to Cheaney40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That could very well be the case. OG may be doing Juwan a huge disservice by encouraging him to go pro - OG has potential and athletic ability that Morgan doesn't and never will have. I'd hate to see him give in to peer pressure and then be relegated to the future you describe. -
OSU just broke Rule #1: Never self-report violations (especially very minor ones).

(2019) PG - Tre Mann to Florida
pumpfake replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Me too. Recruiting to maintain a balanced roster: check, developing positive relationships with coaches and players: check, pursuing and prioritizing Indiana talent: check, pursuing quality players from out of state: check. It's so refreshing to get the impression that there is a systematic plan for the future.
