We fold up like a cheap suit. Disgusting!

Almost completely agree with this post. I'd add that going forward, I believe Al is going to eventually be a really good contributor - it seems like he's right on the cusp of breaking through, and was the closest thing to a fighter on the floor for us last night. The only thing I don't fully share is the belief that TJD is going to be an immediate difference maker. First off, we don't know how he will fare physically against good & experienced college players. Secondly, he's shown a propensity to sulk and let it affect his play when things don't go his way - that is exactly what we DON'T need. The good news is that TJD does seem to play with more fire and emotion than what we've seen on our team lately. I'm optimistic, but it's really hard to predict what a freshman will bring, especially with some behaviors we've seen from them in H.S.. I hope he proves my concerns to be unfounded.

He took full responsibiliy for the debacle and even used the word embarrassing. So theres that. This was a perfect contrast between a team that can shoot and one that can't. CAM needs to figure it out one way or another.

In my far, far from expert opinion, I thik we're seeing some consequences of a decision Archie had to make: Do you change the style of play to suit the roster? OR, do you stick with your offensive and defensive philosophy even if the personnel is not adequate or suited to playing that way? Do you, teach and insist on running what you want, in hopes that the available players will be able to pick it up and (more importantly) become proficient at it in the future (for sophs and freshmen). The former might be best for short term success, and the later for long term success. I can't make a judgement, but that's why I'm just a guy that sits on my butt and watches on TV while the coaches get paid the big bucks.

Well, IMO, there's your first mistake: accepting anything Dakich says as fact. Last year CAM appeared to be resigned to what we were, but this year I've seen some more fire at both the players and officials. We don't have to have a roster full of hard-nosed, run through a wall players, but we do need at least one to inspire, push, and lead the rest of the team. That, we don't have, and is something we desperately need.

Context on the first 2 seasons of a few top cbb coaches
pumpfake replied to ViaSwiss's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
True. I have to remind myself just how empty the cupboard was when CAM was hired (or shortly there after). I can think of a coach who would have almost certainly had us in a better position last season and this, a coach who has done so every place he's been. He also would have been gone in just a few years. That coach: Larry Brown. My point is that even a coach who comes in and performs a miracle can be a bad hire. Archie is rebuilding the team and will be given several more seasons. -
Well stated, Bigred. Really mirrors my thoughts closely. You overlooked McRoberts - a good kid who hustles and plays unselfishly. A team with aspirations of competing for titles doesn't have walk-on logging major minutes, let alone starting. Just another indicator of the current lack of players ready to play significant minutes. In Miller's Lone recruiting class we're seeing good contribution, and it could be even better if not for Hunter's medical issue. I think we fans might have overlooked how depleted the roster was before Archie coached his first game here. An NIT flop, then losing a shooter and front court starter (areas we remain short on). I'm not ready to pass judgment on CAM, but while impressed with his recruiting results I hoped for better results and player development than what we've seen to this point. I truly believe the staff knows what needs to be fixed, and couldn't have anticipated the injuries.

I am in no way a follower of the NBA, and it may be true that he'll be a sure lottery pick. But he is way too passive. He can dominate against lesser talent in H. S. but needs to step it up against decent college teams. Going to the next step, against experienced men, I fear he'd flounder. IMO, he needs to work on a lot of things before being a quality professional player. Maybe he can get paid while doing it, but it'll have to happen with limited playing time - I don't know how well that can work with his laid back demeanor.
-
I hope so too. Yesterday was the first time I saw Rob running and moving at what I'd think is 100%. He is a very good freshman, but still a freshman and is now playing himself back into shape & the flow of the game.

Something I saw during the first half yesterday kind of made me laugh & shake my head: The purdu player responsible for guarding McRoberts was chasing him and guarding him really tight away from the basket (why? LOL). To his credit, he (McRoberts) did end up making some shots. Come to think of it, McRoberts was one of the few players that was actually moving on offense. It's common knowledge (belief) that we sorely lack two components: reliable shooter(s) and bulk/size up front. The truth is, 3 of the 4 classes on this current team are Crean recruits and those classes have none of those two elements unless you count DeRon. In his first recruiting class, Archie got 2 major contributors on this team (Langford & Phin) and very possibly Hunter would have been a third. At this point next year is more uncertain with only two players signed. I don't know of any true bruisers on the foreseeable radar, but I believe Morton is a player that would really be a great addition to the program.

Came ot flat (again). Langford got two fouls and sat. We came back and had the lead toward the end of the first half, but let them get a 7 point lead going into halftime. Started the second half poorly and were soon down by 14 points. We didn't challenge the rest of the way.
-
Agree. Archie needs a hard nosed, in your face guy on the team (Michael Lewis, Scott Skiles, Brian Cardinal type). We have no one that has shown that personality, in fact we have a lot of laid back guys (not a criticism of them, it's just their natural demeanor). Maybe Franklin can be that guy, or RP can become one.

If you can't teach 3-pt, or FT shooting, you have to recruit players that have shown they can.
-
Inconceivable that we can't get at least a couple of quality shooters, but alas we have none.
