Big ten officiating is consistently inconsistent and bad. IMO, it's routinely awful and has been for a long time. I know some like to blame them for losses and others ignore the impact a bad call can have. But I will say that tonight's game is about as vocal as I've ever heard Don Fischer commenting on the refereeing. -

Yep. Thompson, Morgan, and Davis starting and then getting some decent play from Fitzner, Forrester, & McRoberts made Smith expendable. Free throw shooting is the one facet I completely put at the feet of the players. Archie doesn't need to teach them to shoot FT's, but must insist they deliver at the line - improve or get limited minutes. -

There were several things beyond our control for this loss, but there were some things we did (or didn't) do that prevented us from winning: Mediocre FT shooting as usual. When Al got fouled on the layup after the steal, then missed both free throws I'm not so sure I wouldn't have taken him out of the game immediately. I really like Durham, but the players need to get the message that it's up to them to improve from the line. Rob P is going to be a big asset to this program, and I thought he played pretty well, but he's got to finish better. He gets to the rim often, but misses too many lay ups. I was glad to see Archie getting on the refs. They did us no favors with the whistles. Overall we weren't perfect but didn't deserve to lose. Finally Race was pretty dang effective for a guy getting significant minutes for the first time. -

This game should be over from the rob job by the officials to that garbage shot that guy made in the first-half for Iowa. -
There was. It was back in January.

I didn't see it, but from several others who did, their interpretation of what happened agrees with yours.

I think it's really going to be "interesting" to see the mood and nature of the posts here over the off-season and into the pre-season this coming year. Speaking for myself, I hope there are developments that give reason for optimism, but unlike the past many years I'm not going to get giddy about any recruit or transfer until I see them prove it on the court. I'm also not going to assume any current player or recruit will perform significantly better than what they've already shown. Again, I need to see it on the court. Also, I am not going to give a single, flying, damn, about tweets telling us who has worked hard and is jacked like an body builder, can jump like a cat, or has been hitting 50 footers without a miss. "Once burned, twice shy." It's going to stink, in a way, forcing myself to temper any optimism - as summer/fall is when it tends to build. I also hope we don't, as a group, put unrealistic pressure on Hunter, Franklin, or TJD. More than anything, I just hope Jerome can resume his playing career without any lingering (or new) issues. Along with tempered optimism, I am going to (try to) force myself to refrain from repeating how bad we've been this season. We all know it and it's inarguable, but moving forward there's no benefit in bitching and rehashing the same gripes over and over. On balance, I still believe in CAM, but the honeymoon is over. I don't think Archie gets a full "mulligan", but the past two seasons will be in the rear view mirror and our failures are what they are (were). We can't expect a miraculous improvement, but anything close to the status quo is beyond unacceptable. -

I listened to that last part of the game on the radio and was wondering the same thing about the blow Langford took. The refs will go to the replay at the drop of a hat to determine if a player "hooked" another (why is that a major point of emphasis now?), but rarely do anymore - it's like somehow Romeo magically started bleeding or smacked himself in the face. But, I only heard it on the radio. But, yes, Boroski is just plain awful - and there's a handful more that are similarly bad. -

These stats about Rob J. reinforce my belief that improving a player's shooting ability once he's in college is difficult. IMO, you recruit great shooters, you don't make them. -

61% FT shooting. Lose by 2. Hmmmm, maybe I'm hallucinating but I seem to remember someone, somewhere earlier in the season trying to convince us that FT shooting isn't important. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

Yea. I've noticed both here and on another IU message board that the chronically most negative posters are out in all their glory. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Indeed. The coaching staff has a big dilemma if Brooks doesn't commit. I definitely see 66's point: the program (culture or whatever you want to call it) needs to be built. I don' t know how effectively you can do that with a revolving door. Maybe Archie overestimated what he inherited and had coming in. Maybe Brooks is a muti-year college player, IDK, but the eggs in one basket (for completing the '19 class) seems like a potential mistake. Now if what has been suggested, that Brooks has been assuring the staff he' s coming, goes South then I can see a real sh*tstorm developing in the basketball office. Nothing against Romeo, but he might have been the wrong player at the wrong time. -
In retrospect you have to wonder what this team would be like if CAM didn't pursue Smith and Moore and had re-recruited McKinley Wright when he was hired.
