Throwing the ball to Bryant in the post is like throwing it into a black hole. The kid can't do anything down there. -

Someone tell our guys they don't have to shoot 3's every time. -

I don't like this lineup. I'm fine with Bryant/Davis starting but we need a wing out there too. -
We can't predict the future but we can use the past to make educated guesses about what the future will hold. If I start dating a girl who has cheated on her last five boyfriends I can't say with absolute certainty that she will cheat on me, but I can look at prior history and make an educated guess. I can't say with absolute certainty that Crean will never win a title here, but I can look at his postseason history and his coaching weaknesses and make an educated guess that it's unlikely that he gets us to a final four. He's done it once in 17 years and a Dwyane Wade caliber player isn't walking through the doors to put on an IU jersey anytime soon. It wasn't fair for me to discredit his final 4 because all the successful coaches have had studs help them along the way, but I'm worried that Crean can't consistently get the elite players that you need to compete for titles. For whatever reason we seem to miss on a lotttt of our top priorities. I probably shouldn't use absolutes to make my point because you're right that it's inaccurate to say Crean has proven he can't win a championship. I didn't follow him when he was at Marquette but I haven't seen much from him in his 8+ years here that makes me confident that he's going to put it together and win a national championship. He's been here for a long enough time for me to think that what we've seen from him is what we're going to get. He has to at least get us past the sweet 16 before I start seeing him as a possible guy who can be our long-term coach and get us back to an elite level.
-
That's true. Why McRoberts is getting around the same number of minutes as Green/Davis/Cujo is beyond me.
-
I'm not trying to be confrontational. If we don't think he can get us to another banner then why keep him around? A national championship should be the goal for IU. If your coach isn't capable of delivering one, then you move on. Maybe there isn't anyone out there who can that we could get, but that doesn't mean we should hold on to a guy who has proven that he can't. You'll never score if you don't shoot. Sure it's possible that we catch fire at the right time and make a Final 4 run, but nothing in Crean's career makes me think that will ever happen. He's made it past the sweet 16 once in his life, and that was with a top 5 shooting guard of all time in his backcourt. He can't make in game adjustments. If his pre-game game plan isn't working then we're screwed. He doesn't ride the hot hand, his in-game substitutions seem to have very little to do with on court performance. That's not going to get you deep into the tournament.

I always hear people say that he's a good recruiter, but is he really? He throws out offers like candy, rarely gets his top targets, and gives walk-ons significant minutes..
-
Do you believe that Crean is capable of building a team that can win a national championship and then getting them there? If you don't, then what's the point of keeping him here? Go out and find a guy who can.
-
If Crean stays I'd love for him to bring in a guy who specializes in developing big guys. We've struggled to get top post players to come here even when we have big openings because our staff doesn't really develop/utilize them.

Jbj couldn't guard a kitchen table. The kid is allergic to defense. There's no question that the team was better last year after he got hurt. Maybe we would've been just as good or better if he didn't get hurt, we'll never know, but the team post-injury was better than the team pre-injury.
-
It gave him a crutch to lean on and made us a better team at the same time. It was the biggest blessing he could've hoped for.

Without D Wade, Crean is 7-7 in the NCAA tournament, with 3 sweet 16s in 15 seasons. He only advanced past the first round in 4 of those 15 seasons. He just isn't a good coach... The truth is right in front of us.
-
Crean seemed to make adjustments and changes last season but this year he's back to the way he was before. We know how our season will go before it even starts. It's hard to get too excited during the good times because they never last. He's been a D1 head coach since 1999. If he hasn't adapted by now, why would anyone think he ever will?

Getting Brad Stevens would be amazing and I think IU should give him a blank check and tell him we'll give him whatever it takes. If we can't, do you think we should hold tight with Crean and hope Stevens changes his mind in a few years? Given what's in bold, imo we could get a better coach than Crean to come here if Stevens tells us no. Idk who would be willing, but there has to be someone out there who would be better than Crean..

Its just a guess based on what I've seen, I have no inside info. I would love to be completely wrong. So far I just haven't seen anything that suggests that our administration will get rid of Crean even when he vastly underachieves. It seems like they're satisfied with competing for big 10 titles and making it to the tournament. Most schools would love to be in that position, but we're not most schools. Well, we didn't use to be at least. We all think that we should be at a Duke/UNC/Kansas level, but it seems like the administration is cool with being a couple levels below that.
-
The basketball team sells tickets and Crean doesn't break NCAA rules. I think that's what it comes down to for Glass and the university. They're satisfied with the success we have had. Winning national championships wouldn't make a top 10 list of their priorities for the program. He'll stay because IU doesn't want a coach who's bigger than the school.

It puts the image in my head and I can really do without that
