Is Thomas Bryant going to declare for the draft?
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
How much of that can he really change though? I feel like his weaknesses are things that another summer/college season won't be able to help. I think it'd be best for him to have a great Big 10 season, leave for the draft and hope a team takes a chance on him in the first round. I really hope he's back in the candy stripes next season but I think he runs the risk of dropping his draft stock even more if he does. -

How does him signing financial aid papers affect the situation if we did indeed pull his scholarship? -

I've noticed that too. I can't tell if it's by design or if he isn't calling for the ball enough or what, but he hasn't been getting many touches lately. I hope it changes soon because we're going to need him to come up huge when Big 10 play starts. -

Ah okay gotcha, that makes sense. Heck, he should've joined the 3 pointer party! Lol. -

Yeah his judgment was definitely lacking but I think some of that had to do with him being on a visit with potential future teammates and wanting to fit in with them. I'm not excusing his behavior and no one forced him to do anything but 17 year old kids are impressionable and want to look "cool" to the college kids showing them around campus. I just don't think we should give up on him and yank the scholarship, based on what I read in the article. If he raped the girl with the host he was with then obviously that's a completely different story. Deadspin's account of the event doesn't make it seem like that's what happened. -

I didn't watch but how did TB only end up with 3 shots? The big fella needs to be more assertive. -

It said he was really drunk, maybe he didn't want to call the police and risk getting in trouble for underage drinking. Idk -

But can you punish a kid for the way someone says they "feel" if they didn't do anything to make them feel that way? Hafiz might not have had any idea how she was feeling if she internalizes it and doesn't say anything. What allegedly happened between Hafiz and the girl really doesn't sound much different from what happens in dorm rooms, apartments and frat houses on college campuses across the country every weekend. The situation was getting too sketchy for him and he got out of it. What happened after he left, as tragic as it allegedly was, wasn't on him. -

I think it's important to separate what Hafiz was involved with from what happened after he left. When it's all lumped together it sounds really bad and makes bringing him into our program look like a terrible decision. Sexual assault allegations get a lot of coverage in the media today and you don't want that attached to your program. To me, what our recruit did sounds more like a drunken hookup than a sexual assault. If CTA wants to draw the line there then I don't have a problem with it, but I think he would struggle to field a team if drunken hookups were his line in the sand. -

I know I'm probably in the vast minority in my opinion, but message boards are meant for people's opinions, and I'll keep it respectful... If we did pull his scholarship I think it's bs and was done to avoid having to answer a few tough questions at a future press conference. Whatever happened that night it wasn't enough for the prosecutor's office to pursue charges. I understand that due process only applies to the legal system, but I hate that nowadays all it takes is allegations for kids' lives to be ruined. The deadspin article makes the situation seem like a complete mess. The girl doesn't know who she consented to, who she didn't, etc., and it sounds like Hafiz was gone before the majority of the actions took place. The deadspin report says that the girl "didn’t want to have oral sex with the player, but “felt compelled", but it never says that Hafiz did anything to force her into having sex.. If she's not resisting, telling him no, etc. it might be hard to know how she feels if she's going along with the situation. For all Hafiz knew this could have just been part of the recruiting visit. We can pretend that it doesn't happen, but I feel confident in saying that it's probably pretty common for many recruiting visits to involve partying and setting recruits up with chicks. Not saying it's right, but I think it happens fairly often. After this happened he said that the school was "****** up" and left. We can't hold him accountable for what happened once he left. We've had athletes do much worse things than what it sounds like he did and remain on their teams. -

We just fired our football coach for non-performance reasons.. I don't think Coach Allen would turn around and do something that would bring even more negative attention to IU just a few weeks later. I'm confident he did his due diligence before bringing in the kid. -
Haha Draymond can kick his little heart out as long as the Larry O'Brien trophy stays in Cleveland
-
ESPN will make a big deal out of Grayson Allen because it's what they do, but Draymond Green legitimately kicks me every few games and they never stop the Golden State love affair.

I agree. I can't blame the players at all for doing it. It's the smart thing to do. There's always the chance they go out there for the bowl game, blow out their knee and end their career. It just sucks as a fan to see it happening. I feel like we might see some changes to the bowl system if more and more players start doing it.

I wish we had McSwain for four years. I think Crean would've really been able to develop him if he would've gotten him sooner. Regardless, I have no problem with him on the team. He's raw, but he's not a Priller or an April. Who knows, with a summer in Bloomington next year the coaches might turn him into a contributer. At the least he's an athletic body they can use in practice. I don't think jbj will ever play in the NBA. He doesn't have the explosiveness you need to be a 2 guard when you're 6'4. I know he'll be itching to leave after this year, but I don't think he'll be happy with the result if he does. Hopefully he sticks around. -
Yeah if they were arrested the name is going to come out anyway. Idk where/why a player would be drinking though? All the students are gone for winter break.

https://www.google.com/amp/www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-college-football-bowl-games-nfl-draft-20161219-story,amp.html?client=safari I don't know how I feel about all of these players sitting out their teams' bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft. I understand not wanting to risk injury, but I would be pretty pissed if I was one of their teammates and they quit on the team before the bowl game. You can say that these games are "meaningless exhibitions", but if that's the case only a handful of teams play any meaningful games each year. Where would you draw the line? Once your team is out of playoff consideration the rest of your games would be pretty meaningless.

I don't think Glass is all that concerned with winning another national championship and as a result will keep Crean here as long as he'll stay. It sucks, but it's probably the hand that we have been dealt. -

A third round exit in the NCAA tourney has been our peak under Crean.. I truly do not think that he's capable of leading a team deep in the tourney. He doesn't have the necessary coaching ability.
