If he doesn’t address the shooting in the off-season then he is looking to get canned. A rotation of Phinisee, Hunter, TJD, Brunk, Franklin, Durham, Thompson and (maybe) Smith is enough of a foundation. Get a couple of Zeislofts, one of whom can also play point ala Hulls, and there will be plenty enough talent to be competitive. I’m not even counting on any of the possible production we may get from the incoming freshmen. Rob also needs to step up and become the leader of this team. Mix up the assistants where it’s needed and be flexible with what you want to work and what you need to work philosophically. And lastly, Archie needs to act like he wants to be here and is the face of this program and therefore the face of the university. No more half-assed press conferences, no more being a low key figure at publicity events, and no more cow-tailing to the administrators and the players/parents.

In his first year I think he was a little intimidated by the stage of being IU’s coach, but these last two seasons, especially this one, I’m questioning how much he actually wants to be here. Taking a job like this needs to mean more to you than just “I’m now the head coach at IU” (or UCLA, or UNC, or any of the brand name schools), and “therefore this is a top opportunity and I’m now at the peak of my profession.” You need to make it personal. You need to want to carve out a chapter in the school’s history as “your era.”

It is not that hard to be a top 68 team in the country...

Team stinks.

Out rebounded 22-12 and assists are 14-5 Michigan.

Every single shot we’re taking is off balance and muscled up. Nothing is even remotely a good shot, even though we’re hitting.

Our freshmen/sophomores have a total of two points.

These teams are fairly even everywhere but the brain.
-
Was our last win here when we had that 28-0 run?
-
No quality looks on offense yet.

Antwaan Randel El’s younger brother Marcus just surrendered on double homicide charges. He played college football at Wisconsin.

Archie literally just needs 3 consistent shooters to have this program where it needs to be.

This Mel Tucker drama is equally entertaining and depressing. Colorado fans are livid and in full meltdown mode. Tucker tweeted just a few days ago that he turned down MSU and was sticking with CU, was making public appearances about it, and even had a donor event lined up. Then out of nowhere he flips on his word and signs with Sparty. The way this played out really highlights the disadvantage many non-Big10/SEC schools have, even if they are Power 5. The thread on the Colorado board is worth a read. The new breaks on page 23. And yes, they tracked flight statuses. https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/mel-tucker-leaves-cu-for-michigan-state.143217/page-23

I can buy into the administration making it a little tougher to bring in certain players, not writing blank checks to top coaching candidates, and making our players attend class, but I don’t know what else they really are doing to handcuff a coach’s ability to win here. They certainly give zero ****s about players getting run off the team. Crean had more players transfer than reach their senior year. They allow for a sizable recruiting budget. They haven’t prevented us from landing the top player in the state the last two years. They haven’t limited the amount of exposure and prime time games we get when the team is ranked. They haven’t prevented IU from playing NCAA free agency and allowing grad transfers to come in. They haven’t prevented an unprecedented amount of money to be put into our new facilities. Maybe they don’t fire poor coaching candidates soon enough, but that doesn’t handicap a coach from winning here.

Except for Brunk, there isn’t a single current JR or SR that should see much playing time at IU anymore.

Archie looked dejected at the end of this one. He may sense the writing is starting to form on the wall. I was very encouraged by what he was saying and how his team was playing in his first year. He’s changed a bit too, less passionate about what he wants to accomplish and how to achieve it, and while I’m sure he hates losing, I’m not sold he wants to be the guy at IU for the long haul. If we’ve reached that point with him, then this experiment is over.
