I watched a couple of their preseason games last and be prepared for these to really, really suck. 1 thing, and I may be thinking about the wrong gym, but The Villages floor, I believe it was, has 3 huge stampeding bison on it and is awesome for that alone.

Fwiw: top 50ish DC combo guard Derek Dixon is announcing today and North Carolina has been thought to be his landing spot for a while. Very much a scoring guard in the Jasper Johnson mold. Should Dixon make the call for UNC and Adams for UConn there’s no scenario in which we’re not happy for those developments.

I didn’t fully realize it before following the Derik Queen recruitment, but for shear unadulterated tackiness Maryland has the worst fanbase in the B1G. I think they’re offended that the traditional fanbases still think of them as a quasi-ACC school and they’re just petulant as hell.

Kid barely played last year because of foot stuff. That is not promising.

I swear. There are way too many people who are way too proud of being utter creeps. If someone has a problem with the way Malik carries himself or reps the school that is 100% a them problem.

Exhibit A, Sam Gilbert and that was 60 years ago. I don't love that kids are going to be more readily tagged as mercenaries now that things are more open when money is just a factor in a decision like any number of other things can be. But it does rain on the romantic notion that all these kids love their school the same way we do, though i think many if not most still do.

You could make an argument that Odom got jobbed a little bit. Maybe, maybe not. The AD who fired him didn’t hire him and then hung an academic issue involving a tutor doing schoolwork for players around his neck. Despite spending a bunch of money on upgrades there was a sense, probably legit, that the program was deteriorating. And Odom didn’t do himself any favors by whining about every perceived little slight or criticism and being pretty unaccountable. He was not the kind of guy anyone was looking to save.

What’s really interesting here for people with lives who don’t live and breathe this stuff like some of us is how starkly Haralson’s recruitment demonstrates just how insular a world high major recruiting really is. He obviously played with Sisley for a couple of years. Played last year with Koehler. Will end up playing 2 seasons at Lalu with Darius Adams who MSU is really pushing for. These kids all know each other at that level and they all know who they think can play. So much so that it really surprised me that Riebe didn’t already know Sisley or Mullins from 3SSB.

Brady Koehler to Notre Dame. Doubt it matters, but Koehler played travel ball this spring with Jalen Haralson.

If that does come together they have to take St Mary's, too. Probably the best non-power conference rivalry in the country.
