(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue
cthomas replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I don't know anything about Kaufman other than what I have read on this forum. However, to put "committed" on the message seems a little like messing with the teams who are recruiting him if he has not informed them. I just think that process should work the other way around. -
(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue

There's always another kid. I would love to get Kaufman, but if the fit isn't right for him, then it's time to move on. I hope he, and all kids really, find the right situation. I don't think it's ever appropriate to be angry at kids because they don't do what we want them to. If he chooses IU, fantastic! If not, I wish him nothing but the best. All kids deserve at least that from the adults in the room. -
Having lost so many games we should have won, I'll gladly take one we probably should have lost. Happy for the program. Can't hurt on the recruiting trail either.

IU has lost so many games like this. Eventually we were bound to win one. This time it was the PSU staff that seemed unaware of what needed to happen. Hopefully, we grow and are better next week. Only this time we get grow from a win instead of a loss. Congrats to the team and the staff for putting themselves in position for the win.
-
I'll take the win, but PSU did the most Indiana thing ever by scoring late.
-
As long as the other team doesn't go to the onside kick.
-
Read an article this week about how calm Penix has always been. Never rushed and never rattled. That's not how he has looked most of the first half. I think he settles down and gets his rhythm back in the second half. Going to be a battle regardless. PSU isn't going to roll over.

There's something terribly inappropriate about that, but now it's an image I can't get out of my head.
-
The wild card will be who is eligible to play each week. Looks to me like a 3 or 4 win season.

I've seen Bobby Wilkerson on a couple of lists here and definitely agree. Buckner and Wilkerson were the best defensive guards I've ever seen at IU. That Wilkerson jumped center to start the game says all you need to know about his athleticism. He added just enough on the offensive end to make him a really good all around player.

I've always thought that Randy Wittman was a bit underappreciated when he played at IU. He was a great all around player with good size. -
2020 General Recruiting Thread

I am beyond shocked that thus far no one has entered the portal. I think it's a good sign and probably indicates a healthier program on the inside than many of us think. Also seems to indicate that CAM likes his guys. -
After seeing what Landon Turner did in season in '81, I always have hope that kids can figure it out and be who we always thought they could be.
-
Great story from someone on the inside. Thanks for sharing it. I couldn't believe how inept they were at times early given the talent. But when they figured it out, especially Turner, they were arguably the best I have seen at IU. Isaiah always had the talent, and attitude, to be great. It just took him, and coach, a bit to know what to do with it.
-
You've got it right. That Maryland team was loaded and IU just ran them out of the building. It was so bad that the broadcast cut to another game at the end. IU has had a lot of great players over the years, but Isaiah Thomas was, and still is, the best I have ever seen there. Every time I watch a replay of one of the games from that season, I'm amazed all over again. I have no idea why it took that team so long to figure it out. I just remember being so frustrated with them through December and much of January.
-
I thought that Calipari lost that game by not being aggressive enough down the stretch. They had more talent and, if they continued to play the game they had all season, they would have won. Funny how losing just one game takes a team out of the discussion of best team ever. As much as I loved the '76 t IU team, I've always thought the end of the year '81 team was the best I've ever seen at IU.

Looks like Matt Haarms is entering the transfer portal. Interested??

2020 General Recruiting Thread

Thank you, sir. I'm a little late to the party, but that is truly funny. -
I'm not saying it was a good or bad hire, I'm just saying that it was exactly what I expected. If the current administration was happy with Glass, and I have no reason to believe it wasn't, then why would anyone expect a new direction. What basketball fans might want isn't even on the radar. We aren't driving the bus.
-
A reason to hire from within is continuity. It usually says that you are happy with the way things have been going. It's definitely not a shake things up move. That being said, he will succeed or fail based on the decisions he makes just like CAM's record will determine his future. I'm ambivalent on both at this point and waiting to see how it plays out.
-
I think I said that in this case I was willing to defer to the decisions of the experts. I am well into the high risk group and understand the possible consequences of infection.
-
Everything is nuanced to some degree. The balance between competing interests can be difficult to strike and we have a lot of competing interests in play here. I generally come down on the side of allowing people to decide individually the degree of risk they wish to assume. However, I'm not an expert on anything and, in this case, am willing to defer to those who are.

IUBB vs Nebraska Game Thread 3/11 @ 8:30 pm BTN

I think the qualifier was to win a couple of games, not necessarily the tournament. However, I'll gladly take that. -
He was fine 30 years ago, but has been wearing on me ever since.
