Either those coaches are high on crack, or we really underappreciated him.
-
That's absolutely true. But we are arguing about which coaching candidate can lead us to the promised land. What I have seen from these coaches makes me think that maybe they aren't the difference makers. Maybe it's the coach who recruits the right players. I'm kinda over the drama of the search at this point.

Probably. But Arkansas was a bunch of missed shots by TT from going home. I really wasn't that impressed by what either coach did. That game to me was decided by the players and not the coaching. Maybe just the nature of today's game.

Honestly didn't see either coach make outstanding decisions down the stretch.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I don't feel that way because we have no idea how a Stevens coached team would have done. There are a bunch of great coaches out there. They are coming up through the ranks every year. Look at the names that keep getting mentioned. They all were unknown until their respective teams got noticed. I loved the idea of Brad Stevens. I loved the idea of Billy Donovan last time. We will get a new coach. I think Dolson knows what he is doing. I like Beard. Not married to the idea and if it's someone else, I'll give whoever it is a chance to do the job. -

Look, nobody should hate on Stevens because he doesn't want to coach IU. We drove that entire narrative. He is a really good coach who decided several years ago that he wanted to coach in the NBA.....at legendary franchise. Can't we just let that be a career choice without vilifying him? We created the buzz and it fed on itself. He may have entertained offers, who wouldn't. Everything we were told may have been true at some point in time. A decision was made and now for the love of all that's holy, let's just move on. -

Agreed. Point is would you really want to start that over again considering how it's going in Boston? -

I'm not going to disparage Coach Stevens in any way. I would have gladly taken a chance on him at IU. But, like he said, he's 44 and not a kid anymore. And the championships that everyone thought he would deliver haven't materialised. At some point you are no longer the 'golden boy'. The Celtics fans seem to be approaching that point now. Like I said I would have loved him at IU. It was worth a shot. Didn't happen. He's not the only guy who could restore IU basketball. Personally, I wouldn't want to take a job with the pressure of being the savior of a historic program. Others may differ. Just not worth it to me. There are lots of coaches who can do the job. We just need to hire one and enjoy the ride. -
Off topic (I apologize), and I don't know you at all, but your username has me intrigued. I read an Indycar forum that references a 'Dave from Marion' as an inside joke about a popular call in show during the month of May. Maybe just a coincidence, but if not, kudos to you.

Admittedly, I don't know much about most of the current candidates. That said, I really liked the comments Beard made about his team and playing in the Hall. Seems like that might work. Then it would be on us to make him want to stay.

If anything it says we are serious about hiring a basketball coach. I would think the effort would make the job more attractive, not less.

If the only reason he was considering the IU job was a massive pay raise, then, yes, when your current boss matches you stay put. If that's the case then it was just a financial deal. If Boston was determined to keep him, we were never going to outbid them. He made a decision and now we move on. I suspect that the information we received from people close to the situation was completely accurate. These things are complicated and subject to change in an instant. We will get a new coach and see where we go from there. -
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere a few years ago that those guys didn't care at all. May have been Buckner that said it. That team was, and still is, a class act all around.

And if he is not, that's a pretty good indication of what is next. -

All I am certain of is that in the next few days, weeks, or months IU will have a new basketball coach. Then after a few games we will be arguing about whether the new guy can coach or not. -

My favorite player at IU, but I don't want him anywhere close to the coaching job. -

I think we can eliminate any coaches who are not currently coaching teams. Otherwise, we just make the announcement. Coaches currently under contract are a little more difficult. Lots of moving parts. This requires patience in an instant gratification world. -

Stevens is a hard get. Not impossible, but still hard. I've spent some time listening to other thoughts on this and it has kind of grounded me a bit. I'm not disputing anything that connected people are saying, and I'm grateful for what they share, but there seems to be a lot of obstacles to getting Brad Stevens. It's possible that our guys know more than the local or national guys do. I really hope that is the case. But, I'm not going to get crazy excited until I see an official announcement from the IU athletic department. -
I enjoy reading your thoughts on the other site and am glad to see you here. It's really not a competition since we are all supporters of IU basketball. As far as I'm concerned, we are all family.

I'll probably be the first. But, what a way to go out!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves....oh, what the hell, go ahead and get ahead of yourselves.

Maybe he's really Kevin Wilson.

Clearly one of the best. The board is in great hands.
